Just hopped on to say thanks for your videos, Nigel. I watch on my TV and it doesn’t make it easy to add comments. I love the way you talk us through what you do and don’t do a “magic hands” thing where all the challenging bits of the build are hidden from view. Like many I returned to the hobby during lockdown after decades away and it’s great to have clear demonstrations of the newer products and build techniques. Weathering wasn’t “a thing” when I was a kid, for example.
Thanks again - loving the Sea King build and looking forward to the Anson.

I think it would be hilarious if Airfix put an in the process of being shot down BF-109 on every single box top even if it's out of context.

Nigel, I had the same issue with my clears on the Anson. I just sent a few photo's by email to Airfix customer service and almost by return had a new clear sprue which was perfect, so it's not a mould issue. Exemplary service from them - give it a go!! Regards, Rich

@@NigelsModellingBenchlooks good but not my prefered scale as i dont build 1/48.....a 1/72 version and im in but i must say airfix dropped the ball on the decal options
...considering the amount of air arms that used it they only offer british and 1 other nationality.....for example it would have been cool if they included an option for the Irish air corps .

    • @timorvet1
      @timorvet1 11 місяців тому +1

@@jaws666 The decal options in the kit for the RAF, RAAF, & RCAF make sense in this initial issue, as these were the three main users of the aircraft before, during, and after the war. Of course its main contribution during the war was to the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS) & the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) set up to train aircrew in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, With good weather conditions, vast areas to train in, and away from the dangers of conflict with the enemy, these countries were ideal. I see Max Decals have done a lovely set for pre war Anson's in an attractive green and silver scheme, and a wartime scheme of dark green/dark earth, with black undersides.

Hi Nigel my Dad flew in the Anson in the RCAF out of Brandon , Manatoba And he said with all the Glass it was bloody hot inside on a warm day. I have not done a model in over 40 years so I bought this kit and will have a go with it in the Fall. Modeling has sure changed since I did it.Have a lot to learn. I was at Nanton Bomber Command Museum in Alberta last Summer. They have a Lancaster and they ran up all the Merlin's. Was music to the ears. I video taped there Anson as it is being restored next there DH. Mosquito Bomber.I will post a video of these aircraft soon and let you know when it is posted. .I will watch your video on the Anson build as I build my Kit. Thanks Ron

Hi Nige, I’ve had this kit for a while and half way through building it. It’s gone together nicely so far except the engine nacelles on the underside but that could well be me as the rest so far has been a joy! I’m going for the trainer version to have a stab at some yellow paintwork
Just checked my clear parts and the canopy on mine looks EXACTLY the same as yours with the line across the top!

A very nice looking kit Nigel. Airfix are getting better and better with every new release. I am surprised that you didn't buy one directly from an on-line store. It is still readily available. Oh, and I checked my little padlock symbol at the top in the address bar. Mine only has the following: 1. Site information for www.youtube. 2. Connection secure (goes to a sub menu). 3. Clear cookies and site data. I have notifications turned on, and I am getting them. I am using the Firefox Browser. Oh, and have you seen the news from Border Model. They are going to release a 1/32 Dambusters Lancaster, and they claim to have reworked the clear parts. But are going to include those clear parts and the originals in the box.

Nice review, Nige. I too loved the 1/72 one when it came out, so much that I've recently got another from Kingkit and a photoetch interior set. Just need to pluck up the courage to set about it. With regard to the guns, I believe aircrew in the field supplemented the standard fit in various ways including, i once read, a 20mm cannon. This 1/48 release looks to be a belter.

It was myself that brought this up re the glazing and the line mark, whatever it is, however it happened. I wasn’t trying to dump on Airfix, I like the new guys, I like their enthusiasm and research, and the kits are getting better. Historically back in the 70s, 80s I bought matchbox kits because their moulding was better, fit was better, and a slight lack of detail was, to my mind, back then, preferably to a kit with warped parts, tons of flash and went together poorly - which was my Airfix experience back then.
I was excited for the Anson and then reviews, Flory’s first, then others pointed out the canopy flaw. Why, oh why, was this kit released with such an obvious issue? Yes modelling requires some work, but canopy glass with a line through it, this, to my mind, should not be. Its a £45 plus kit, its not acceptable, that this is the case.
A local shop, very kindly, recently opened up their item for me, got first quarter this year, and the line is there. I won’t buy it because of this flaw, I, and you and others should not have to try and sort this out. I fear for the Gannet will poor QC ruin it too? Time will tell.
I know some will think I am being an ass over this, but money is hard earned these days, and I expect better of Airfix in 2022/23 - come on don’t ruin interesting, well researched, lovely kits with short-shots, and issues like this - do better please. Fingers crossed for the Gannet.
Thank you Nigel for taking note of what I said in that chat, I was frustrated for finding lovely kits, such as the Anson, I want to build let down by poor QC. Airfix should have rejected, spotted this sprue during the early days of test shots etc.
Keep up the good work Nigel.

Great that you will do this. This is one of the greatest "sleeper subjects" I have ever seen; no one was asking for it, but fantastic nonetheless with all that glass, and 10 000 built(!!!) Unfortunately, my canopy had a similar flaw on the late upright windscreen, and to my surprise it looked similar but even worse than yours, because yours looked more subtle and washed out: My flaw has the same overall shape pattern, but is very "raw" looking compared to yours... They may have polished it a little... The other windscreen is perfect. Your review is the FIRST afaik to point this out, nearly a YEAR after release, which would have saved me a lot of money in now useless AM decals choices... This was the first thing they needed to mention, and I will check but it seems few or none of them did. This confirms my impression you are one of the few reviewers who is actually serious out there...

Looking at that canopy glazing I wonder if there's been a hair in the mold because both windscreens are roughly the same size and shape so would expect a similar issue on the other part. Slightly off topic but have you built the Airfix 1/48th Walrus. I have built one for my father and it has proved to be a real challenge as it's one of the worse fitting kits I have built, apart from an ICM Do17Z but it had totally warped fuselage half's. Have a go at the Walrus and let me know what you think or did I just get a bodgy one.
