Hi Peter l bought this kit off your 2022 top ten list, l was after the Airfix Ambulance to go with my Italeri Crusader Mll but my local model shop had sold out and the vouchers in my pocket from Christmas were screaming spend me 😂 so l bought this and l must say l’m not disappointed and this video confirmed it thanks mate 👍
You are very welcome, Barry, hope you have fun building it. Airfix will announce their new 2023 releases live in just over an hour from now, 4pm UK time, see: ua-cam.com/video/8eChmXvb5ME/v-deo.html 👍🏻
Have to say what a beautiful kit. The moulding is amazing. The parts look so good, the glasswork also. This will be a dream to build. Thanks for the review.
I don't think this aircraft is appreciated enough, a proper work horse during the war . It was also a great crew trainer both for pilots on multiple engine , radio and navigator training and even gun crew and bomb aimer . It was used extensively by all the top brass along with Churchill as transport. Along with all its other duties . Over 11,000 made . I have waited for this kit release from Airfix and it's on order it truly would be great to get resin figures for this kit and maybe a Churchill . I believe the instrument panel needs some attention and I hope we see a mask set and some etched brass detailing . Airfix have gone to great lengths to details the airfare and show off its different materials from alu to canvas. Thanks again for your great channel looking forward to your build of this iconic aircraft .
This is a great looking kit; I've yet to get one, but I certainly will...!! 😊 Seen a couple of build videos already, and it looks to go together really well.... I love the look of that Aussie Coastal Command version, though the Canadian trainer looks tempting too..!! Damn, two or three Ansons for me?? 😂 Nice review too, and great, clear images of the sprues... Cheers! 🥂
Excellent review as always. I hope someone brings out an aftermarket masking set (Eduard?) as the glass frightens the heck out of me! One of my favourite kits in 1/72 many moons back.
From the prototype photos this looked impressive, and it's good to see the final product is just as good. Looks like a labour intensive project, but at least the instructions are clear and I like the fact they have shown you what completed assemblies should look like and common errors with those specific assemblies. I wish more manufacturers would do that. Also, the brief write up on the scene being depicted in the main picture on the box reminds me of some of those old Matchbox aircraft kits you've been looking at.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab hi Peter...great review..if Airfix down size it to 1/72 and include an Irish Air Corps option on the decal sheet i would be all over this.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab its a shame airfix dont include more irish options on kits they release of aircrat that the iac flew..i can only think of 3 examples where they did this...hurricane,galdiator and fouga magister....and im also surprised airfix have never done a kit of the spitfire TR.Mk 9 2 seat trainer .....
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab very true Peter..at least the company AZ modrls do the Spit TR MK 9 with both early and later Irish options and there is the irish 3rd party /aftermarket decal company known as "max decals" doing irish decals...are you aware the real world and quite famous "gracie" spitfire is a former Irish Air Corps machine.
Airfix has improved the quality of its models over the years. I also can't fault them on their customer service and speed of delivery. The Anson looks like such a beautiful model. Am very envious 😀
nought wrong with the odd claret. I'm so pleased that airfix are continuing to forge forward with these great kits. Just don't let the wife see the receipt for this kit especially if she has been spying on you and seen the stash vid!
Oh boy. First you make me buy the ZM 109 G-14, now this. It's not even Christmas yet Peter! All that detail visible and *no crew figures?* No bomb bay or flaps? PS the turret guns represented are Vickers K guns, although the fuselage guns may be .303 browning. The engines were Armstrong Siddeley Cheetas, the Lysander has a Bristol Mercury (twice as powerful).
Sorry about that, Buddy 🫢 Yes, I did correct myself about the Vickers K guns in the live chat. It's a shame there is no crew...Airfix seem a bit scared of doing figures bigger than 1/72 these days?
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I'll survive. It does look to be a very nice kit. 😉 As for the crew, it would really set this kit off given the amount of interior that is visible. The 1/48 Chipmunk does have a couple of identical WWII clad blobs supplied, (that are suffering from malnutrition, and look to be a scale 4'3" tall). I also agree with your campaign for stands to be included, at least with the smaller aircraft.. I'm a bit old to have them dangling from the ceiling. If Airfix are not supplying pilots or stands with kits, they could still sell us relatively cheap addon packs. It's not as if they can't produce them, and they could make themselves a tidy sum. Now I'm just sounding grumpy, but that is partly down to a lack of wine, and a bad back caused by a non-modelling related incident involving a mouse, a sofa and a screaming wife.
Nothing wrong with red wine while doing a model. Just make sure you don't end putting your paint brushes in the glass. My Merlot just wasn't the same after! 😬😬
There is Anson at the end of the great movie THE PURPLE PLAIN with Gregory Peck. I can't think of any other movie with one. I enjoy these reviews, thanks Peter.
Hi Peter, Good review, just found it after doing mine. I'll be cheeky here and pop a link to it here. It's not as comprehensive as yours but you might be interested if you go to the 23.50 mark, there's a bit of family history you might like. If you don't want me to add the link let me know and I'll happily come back and remove my comment. Best wishes, Mark
I hope F/O Peter's crew got some recognition for that action as well.
Great review Peter, I don't normally build 1:48 scale kits but I will make an exception for the Anson.
I don't normally build 1/48. But this is such a beautiful model I had to order it.
I must tell you mate - your reviews are damn interesting and funny. I like your style and sense of humour.

@Adam Dziękuję Ci 😃
Thank you for the review! The model has not yet been released in Finland, so I ordered it from Hornby Hobbies UK 😁

I like it. Definitely a major step up from the 1/48 Spitfires. The fit on those were pretty bad.
