A terrific build and model! Thanks for creating and posting.
thank you very much!! glad you enjoyed :)
Great work! It's a beautiful kit. Another great new kit from Airfix.
thank you very much! couldn’t agree more on the detail side of the kit it is truly beautiful… would like to see some more beauty in the engineering side of the kits soon!!
Thank you for a very honest and upfront build of a very nice aircraft kit. The style of presenting and subtle background music made it very enjoyable, and I managed to pick up a couple of tips from you as well. Subscribed and look forward to more content.
thank you very much!! i’m glad i could provide some enjoyable and helpful content for you… plenty more to come ;)
One of my favorite aircraft and well-built by you, thanks.
thank you very much, i’m glad you enjoyed :)
Nice build, looks great 👍
thank you very much! glad you enjoyed it :)
Great build!
thank you!! glad you liked it :)
Beautifully done! Your honesty is refreshing. I do like your painting technique for the final product. It looks to be museum quality! Nicely done sir.
Thank you very much sir! Perhaps not museum quality on this one (in my opinion!) but I think my recent stuff is definitely starting to look a hell of a lot better✌🏼
@@machmodels You may not think that your work is of museum quality but I most certainly do! I'm almost 70 years old and just got back into modeling about 5 years ago. Big learning curve for me. My eyes are old, my hands shake a little and I've discovered the airbrush. Watching your videos gives me direction and technique methods that I can use to get better at this stuff. I truly appreciate you for sharing your talent. You do inspire me through your work! Thank you!
Looks like an Excellent Airfix kit
It sure is!
A lovely build overall. Beautiful clear explanation of your work, with relevant video rather than showing every single mundane task. Can hardly notice that gap on the front right of the canopy. Wouldn't even know it if you didn't mention it. I can certainly see why you would need extra detail in the cockpit. Huge open area. You have a very soothing voice, which makes for a relaxing video. Regards from Australia.
glad you enjoyed the video!! thank you for all the kind comments, hope to see you in the next one :)
Super cool!
glad you like it :£
What a good job, in a complicated kit, not for a beginner.
Thank you! Definitely a complicated kit that’s for sure but if time is taken it’ll turn out great🤙🏻😁
Awesome video. I just started this kit and I'll be using your video as a guide. Thanks! Also i just subscribed.
Thank you very much! I hope you enjoy the rest of the content on the channel🤙🏻
Excellent kit
sure is!! glad you enjoyed :)
New subscriber. What a lovely video. The model looked much darker in the final image. Beautifully filmed and narrated. Well done.
thank you!!! i’m glad you enjoyed it, i have improved my photos since this video so they should be a bit less dark now!
Well done great build. With reference to your window in the nose that's missing use a blob of Cristal Clear PVA Glue on a cocktail stick poke the glue around the hole until it covers it and when dry it will dry clear and will look like a window.
Thank you for the suggestion! Next time I run into a similar issue I’ll be sure to do that🤙🏻😉
The most famous Anson must be N9945 used for searching for Knickebein transmissions. Flown by F/Lt Bufton on 20-21st June 1940.
oh wow thanks for sharing!!
Can we please have it in 1/72 scale please.
I have really been thoroughly enjoying Airfix models recently. I got into them with the M3 Stuart they did and they are just a joy to build. They pick interesting subjects and usually do a solid job with detail. It's a shame to see some of the parts warped in the box, but the end model looks phenomenal
i couldn’t agree more!! airfix are incredibly good at picking subjects that people actually want to build, thank you very much for the comment!
I remember being rather disappointed when my father bought me an 'Airfix' Avro Anson kit instead of one of the 'glamour' combat aircraft of the era. It was probably my third model with the previous two being disasters. Ironically, the assembly went very well although being in the late fifties I suspect it didn't have the same detail. Unfortunately, I wasn't provided with any paint.
I must admit I thought the paint work on your model looked rather 'washed out' until I saw the deeper colour of the photographs.
Great video and I love the Anson now. I was delighted to see one at Duxford on a visit (from Australia) in 2010 and 2017.
i must admit the anson definitely doesnt scream glamour, but it grew on me a lot over the build! thanks for sharing your story and i’m glad you enjoyed the finished model :)
Nice build, thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you!😁
This looks really great when completed despite the issues what make the build frustrating here and there... I'd like to build one when I can get one. For the missing clear part, you can use two part clear epoxy resin to replicate them, it can be sanded and polished crystal clear when dried.... (Just fill the opening on the fuselage and let it dry.)
i cannot recommend this kit enough if you have some sort of patience with the plastic! that’s a great idea i wish i thought of it when i was building it!!
Yeah - I joined to upper wing first - BAD BAD mistake - everything was excellent... only issue was the underside engine gaps are you did... at paint stage, and it's a wonderful kit... everything you said was spot on. I had no warping issue - my clears were perfect.. and good example of the gun - agree it's easy to get wrong.
also painting - I go with a white base to check fit/joins (white doesn't hit anything), then mottle black along the panel lines (basically the reverse)...
thanks for the comment! I find it very interesting that you didn’t have any warping issues… i think that seals my theory that i just had a dodgy kit! I think i have to agree that the kit is wonderful could just use some refinement in my opinion! interesting to hear how you do almost the opposite base layering to me, maybe i’ll give it a go soon! hope you enjoyed and thanks for the comment :)
Beautiful job and great narration. How did the colors (brown, especially) end up SO different from the demasking shot 28:17 to the finish reveal? It looks like two entirely different paint jobs
Thank you very much! I think this was at a point in my modelling career when I had no clue how to use a camera! So perhaps that’s why🤣😝
Greetings my friend fro a new subscriber, that was a awsome build and paint finish, it is a kit I would like to get sometime soon, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
thank you!! best of luck getting the kit, i’ve heard that it’s hard to get airfix down under! hope you enjoy future builds :)
Very good video, beautiful plane, a diferent subject, like very much,. Greetings from Portugal, just subscribed your chanel, good stuff. 😉👍
thank you very much!! i’m glad you enjoy the content :)
The floor of the cockpit on wartime Ansons were of an off black, closer to Tamiyas Rubber Black. The bare metal below would have worn through with constant use.
Very interesting!! Thank you for letting me know, if I return to the Annie at some point I’ll have to try so chipping😁✌🏼
Beautiful and sexy work! The Anson’s Two engines remembers me my ex wife. Congratulations
Thank you very much sir! Not too sure what to think of that second comment though🤣🤣
@@machmodels Big engines Sir! Greetings from Chile !
I need to build this. To bad its Airfix. My grandfather worked on Ansons in the Commonwealth Air Training program and I have a clock made from a prop hub that he willed me. Ill bit the bullet, make sure I have lots of putty, and sanding sticks and build it.
that is so cool!!! i wish you the best of luck sir!!
I'm a new subscriber (only my 2nd video) and I am also new to modeling, and my interests are in the WWII aircraft. I find your videos to be really helpful, especially your troubleshooting process for when a kit goes wrong or your workarounds like the navigator's book (making it more 3D) decal. I appreciate the cinematography, the music, and the editing. I know you must spend a lot of time on the finishing of the video, and it doesn't go unnoticed. I do plan to stick to the Airfix models for my start, but are there other kits that are as well or better constructed and thought out? I have heard that Airfix decals are always high standard and usually their sprues are good to go as well. Thank you!
thank you! i am chuffed to hear that my content can provide such a good platform for all of what you mentioned!! I highly recommend airfix starter sets as they are ace, however if you are looking for on the whole problem free models tamiya is your go to. the only downfall to tamiya kits is their decals… inadequate is the best way to put it!! hope you continue to enjoy modelling and the videos ;)
Probably easier to say who to avoid and that would be Italeri and Revell. Too hit and miss with their quality and detail. Pretty much top quality for all the other mainstream manufacturers.
I always wondered why noone builds the brocklesby mid air collision of two avro ansons that landed stuck together.. that would make a good unique model.
That is a stunningly good idea!!🤙🏻
Nice model and good commentary. A couple of observations: I thought the interior green was too light, and shouldn't the prop tips be marked out in yellow?
thank you very much! the interior green might’ve been a tad light as i didn’t put down a black primer before hand… whoops! another good observation on the prop tips, must’ve missed that one!
amazing airplain. need so extra atention like the trimmwehl but at the end it looks pretty good onley 2 tings who i found bad the nose radio antena is missing not the end of the world , and the engine , its cool two difrent typs of schells but the detail is not perfeckt the beneth intak is missing. i think som extra attention on the fabrikation can mak the model to the nummber 1. the decals ar just wow ! they go on like paintet and this just with one aplikation mr decal setter , set it and strip from inside outside 15 sek and it is done.
Hello mister mach.i remember as i was a child i build my model and i dont put them on Display but played with them dogfight as a child does.in the end props brokes, gear brokes, pitots brokes, pylons broke.and in the end the modells broke apart.
These happy days a thumb up.with sticky greetings. Your modellmate.christian
That’s a really good idea! Thanks for the comment😁
Finally, someone who pronounces decal correctly, not dekkal lol
Emphasis on the “eeeee”😁🤙🏻
I think people should be aware of the limitations of models made from the resins called polymers in that not everyone knows that the material is very unstable.
I realised this when a part I was trying to straiten using hot water to soften it actually caused the part to shrink.
Understanding that oil is added to the plastic to help it flow easier in the injection molding machine means that the parts can change over time and then cause issues with failed mating together and parts becoming brittle. The oil in the plastic can evaporate and cause the part to shrink.
I'm now aware that if a kit contains parts which are not contained in quality sealed plastic bags there's a greater chance for distortion.
This may be more noticeable in say large hulls of ships and fuselage of aircraft.
The sealing of the plastic models after building could help prevent it drying out and the model suffering.
But once you open the bags it's actually a race against time to build it before the parts start drying out.
Wear gloves when touching the plastic if possible.
oh wow that is incredibly interesting!! thank you so much for letting me and everyone else know!
Great video! "Make sure your tweezer skills are on point" - I see what you did there! (Even if you didn't). 😆
thank you very much!! pahahaha i was wondering if anyone picked up on it, glad you enjoyed :)
@@machmodels Yes, that tweezer joke really came together. Certainly works well in a pinch...
If you get parts that are warped, put them in warm water and then gently reshape them
very good idea!! wish i thought of that one earlier!
Did you fix that gap under the canopy?
i opted to keep the paint job nice and pristine instead of mucking around with yucky filler and what not!! the person who the model was for said they didn’t even notice the gap until i pointed it out so they where absolutely fine with it!
I’ve always liked the Airfix Anson in the smaller scale, so this slightly larger kit appeals to me. I think it is crying out for some more refined interior detail from an aftermarket photo etch provider to really enhance it given how much glass there is.
Speaking of glass, the fit of that was disappointing for a new tool kit, it should have been perfect. Poor QC on Airfix part and I’m hoping it was an isolated example, not seen other reviews so don’t know if it’s widespread.
If I can make an observation on the audio, there is a really annoying high pitch sound in the background whenever you speak, like interference or something. Halfway through I had to mute the sound and turn on captioning (never ideal as it’s hopeless most the time), so maybe a gremlin crept in there somehow.
Thanks for the build and information on the areas to watch out for!
thanks for the comment!! I completely agree with the idea of using some photoetch to brighten up the interior as it really is very very visible. In regards to QC all other people who I have talked to have had a much better experience with the glass and the warping so I am incline to think I am an anomaly! Thank you for letting me know about the high pitched sound, I think I will be investing into some better recording equipment soon (hope it didn't put you off too much!). Thanks again :)
@@machmodels good to hear the glass is likely an anomaly! Gives a perfect excuse to build another when the inevitable PE assets arrive! I have built a few of the recent new tool Airfix kits, and I have to say they are heading in the right direction, just seem to err on this side of overscale with their moulds.
Still enjoyed the video, just wanted to let you know about the noise :)
@@alanharris2799 couldn't agree more, I am very firm on the idea that I'll be happy with any new airfix kit that I buy. I look forward to hearing about how your PE anson gets on :)
😄
OK but you can still at the PVA even now.
No longer have the model in my possession😄
With your fit and gapping problems, it looks like Airfix has gone the way of the old Monogram P-61 kit, where it was molded so closely to scale it was flimsy and fiddly to put together, with significant gapping, many like myself quit and prefer building kits that simply go together without the hassle.
What was wrong with the way they used to make kits, where the wing halves had the nacelles molded in and simply went together and then you stuck them into the fuselage side slots with the tabs provided?
Why the layered puzzle wing assembly that punishes you if you don't get the order not "just right" and still leaves seams and ridges?
Not to mention the one piece windscreen and fuselage that will require special fitting, filing, sanding and masking?
It seems like you still have to fully sand off most of the finish and then repair it where necessary to maintain panel line integrity, etc.
you raise a very good point in the overall potential that manufacturers over-engineer a lot of their kits to increase detail but loose the joy of a simple fit, i think tamiya are the only current manufacturer who provide a outstanding fit and detail!
@@machmodels I am somewhat a fan of the WW2 RAF and the FAA, and I very much enjoyed building the old Airfix 1/72 kits, including their Avro Anson.
I have an old unbuilt kit for it in my stash.
I read books like "The 1000 Plane Raid" where everything that could fly went over the Channel and dropped a bomb, and as I recall a few Anson's were in on it.
Being the equivalent of our Beachcraft AT-10 trainer plus a turret makes a interesting subject.
Now after watching your article, especially what happens to the fuselage's finish, I am beginning to regret my purchase of this 1/48 recent release and thinking of dumping it on eBay, because what they did looks like more for the pleasure of the kit's designer then the builder.
Thank you for your article, as it has saved me a lot of grief!
no worries mate!! i’m glad that the video helped you out :)
I never use tamiya metallic colours, they are just too grainy; worst paints on the market. Better stick with alclad or ak.
After this build I did buy some AK Xtreme and they are absolutely superb!! All part of the learning curve😁✌🏼
175 parts.....
I believe so!
this video is not doing this kit proper justice ... mediocre build, silvering decals, poor lighting ... it's doing this otherwise fine Airfix kit a disservice
Thanks for the comment, definitely a build I reflect on a realise it wasn’t my finest work. If I attacked it again currently i’m sure there would be a noticeable difference. Hope this hasn’t put you off watching future videos!
Let’s see yours then Martin
very kind of you ... I definitely look forward to future updates. The Anson is a subject I hone in on; particularly in 1/48. @@machmodels subbed ..
don't see how it's relevant .. @@TscaleMB
By my standards it's amazing work.
