In my opinion a modern Turbo petrol outperformces a Turbo Diesel let's take for example BMW the N55B30 petrol from 2009 VS the N57D30 from 2008. The pertrol engine has 302 hp from 5800 to 6400 rpm and 295 ft lbs from 1200 to 5000 rpm, the Diesel has 255 hp @ 4000 rpm and 413 ft lbs from 1300 to 3000 rpm, sure the Diesel has 118 ft lbs more torque but only up to 3000 rpm, the petrol has it's torque earlyier allready at 1200 rpm and up to 5000, and even over 5000 rpm and will have more torque than the Diesel at this revs, with the petrol you have a bigger usable speed band

I guess the torque is actually realistic. A V6 TDI usually has something like 520-550 Nm of torque which is in fact very close to the Mustang V8 5.0 torque. However the max torque in a diesel happens much lower in the RPM band meaning that even if they have the same torque the Diesel has the advantage.

Isn't it enough reason to drive a diesel car to pay $100 a month for fuel instead of $200 a month? And it is also very important that the diesel engine exceeds a million miles. and hardly any gasoline can do that. the only argument for gasoline engines is the sound of the engine. ???

If i think about the big american (useless) engines with 8 cylinders and 8liters volume an their fuel consumption, so it is impossible to drive this car only by 200$ fuel costs a month. Maybe 200$ a week but not a month.
