For a boat motor... Reliability is #1. If you can go 200mph and the motor dies in 2 minutes, I'd take a outboard that pushes 20mph and runs forever. haha.
I’m running a 2020 Honda 250 on an Alumacraft Trophy 205. It has a 19 pitch prop. It’ll run to 6100-6300 rpm and will hit low 50s which seems about right. The Honda has a lot of midrange punch, but it slips a little out of the hole from a complete stand still. Thoughts? Have you run Honda’s back to back against the Merc and Suzuki? How does it fair in this brand battle?
What prop is it? Honda prop? And vents? Do you have a jackplate? As far as a side by side performance comparison between a Suzuki and a Merc it's not even close, but that's not Honda's game. Reliable is!
Have an older 2-Stroke Suzuki DT40 on a 1974 Alumacraft Yukon II, I'm restoring. I hope it does as well as the reviews I have seen. Building myself a Tiny Boat to fish shallow water. Love these animated episodes 🤣🍺🎣
My big issue with the Suzuki is the weight. at I know about the center of gravity being forward, but it is still 100 pounds on the back of the boat. For an inshore/flats boat situation.. that matters. Appearance is totally subjective.. I love the way the Merc's look.
Hint Hint....Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda all apply the same standards when calculating their official dry weight....Mercury doesn't! Maybe that's why they are so much lighter? HMMMMM
Can you ship Suzuki out of state ? Are you allowed to talk MSRP, comparing apples to apples 150 4strokes. Honda, Suzuki, Mercury, Yamaha. With the rigging to make them all the same. No extra Hidden fees.❤
No problems on my 2018 df175 w 150 hrs in salt water yet. Did have to grease the bushing in the mid section because it started to squeal but thats it. My buddy has a brand new yamaha 150 and its a lot louder than zuke or it was to me. Not knocking yamaha because they are the standard right now.
Just bought an Alumacraft 205 Comp with a Suzuki 200. Love it, but man it revs high, 6100 with a Suzuki 3 blade 21 pitch. Thinking that a 23 will be better... Solas or Suzuki, hmmmmmm..... lol
Another awesome battle... Zuk for the win!! So many of the things you talked about in this battle is what led me to Suzuki. The #1 reason, the reliability that I've seen talked about. I did months of research and decided Zuk... I'm one of like 3 guys I know of that run the SS here in Northern Cali and even though service is only limited to 3 shops all between 1.5 and 5 hours from me, I still went Zuk because of the longevity stories I've seen and heard. Oh, great videos, keep up the good work!
We aren't exactly familiar with that boat and we're not sure if they are around anymore either. If they are you can always call them and ask if a 250 SS would work. We suspect it would be fine but if you want to stay in the 150 hp range check out the Suzuki 150 SS. Solid motor with great performance and reliability. Let us know what you find out!
Andy, could you please talk about the Suzuki DF 115 motor. I am finding little to no information on these smaller motors and would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!
Suzuki! That’s good stuff. Who wooduh thunk it!?! I was born and raised in the Mississippi delta. Back then it was BlackmaxMerc-JohnsonGT-Evinrude-and Mariner or nuthin’. I even owned a JUNK one time! I mean a Force... the only outboard I ever blew up..The 1st time I heard about a 4 stroke outboard.... I though... “Worthless as wet toilet paper!”..How can you run a 4stroke anything (short of a Hendricks nascar engine) right on the red line all the time?? Too many moving parts to fail! I know they prolly got it figured out.... but I’ll keep my good ole 2skroke! Same goes for my weed-eaters and chainsaws!
The Japanese have been making four stroke motorcycle engines that turn 7500rpm at interstate speeds, and 14k when skinned back. Have been building them is shiny results for decades upon decades. Nothing going on in a consumer outboard is stressing their math skills
Other thing Suzuki wins at is quietness. The Pro XS 4 stroke has to do an obnoxious blimp of the throttle to start the engine, which scares every fish within a 500ft radius.
Totally waffling on the 115 pro xs and the 115 Yamaha Vmax for my 17 Alumacraft Competitor-- still haven't decided. Its a tough call, and its coming down to doing my own research as every dealer usually just beats up on the competition. It's been great listening to your take on a lot of this. Thanks for doing all these videos.
I am for sure buying a suzuki once we're back at work, i don't need performance, i need reliability, it'll be used for working, hauling heavy loads. But I am confused that there are 2 suzuki 250s, my old classmate has 250ss and loves it, so i thunk I'll get that.
The SS is their more performance oriented motor. The non SS model is only offered in a 25" shaft for offshore guys and the SS is available in a 20" and 25"...Both rock solid and reliable!!!
Awesome! My Vexus avx1880 has a 115 ss. It has the same screens you show, I guide on a grass lake and have yet to overheat. Weird to see the 250's don't have that mesh screen stock. Only sacrifice is top speed, where same boats with 115 merc got 5-7 mph on me. I'm sure you could figure out the best prop for it. Hole shot is amazing though.
I went and bought a merc 150 for my boat first motor ever if i dont like it ill get a suzuki or yamaha i couldnt get yamaha cuz theres nothing here in Alaska and i got a good deal on my merc
Well if you ask Mercury they have an answer...in our opinion it's not a very good answer but they do have one. Check out the comment section in our WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE MERCURY PRO XS video , many people have chimed in and even a Merc tech provided some great info
@@TeamMarineService Happy Thanksgiving. Shit no Merc for me I have a Opti I'm thinking about repowering to 4 stroke. I'm probably going to go with the 225 zuk. The new Mercury cowling design is growing on me I didn't like it at first it definitely looks better in white in my opinion.
Is this a joke?! I love and respect your videos but a Zuki 250 4.0 liter vs a 250 4.6 v8 the Zuki gets eaten every time. If you ask Bass Cat, Triton, most that have done a TRUE AND FAIR comparison it’s typically 7mph. Maybe things have changed but the SS came out a long time ago, the first SHO and Pro XS in terms of large bore 4strokes that are light and kick ass on Bass Boats. I think it was 16yrs ago
We respect your opinion and glad you like our content Brannon. We encourage you to check out our video with Adrian Avena AND our Solar Scorpion Team Talk and report back! ;)
Mercury dealers are all around me, the nearest suzuki is one hour away which was a factor in my repower. Yes I believe suzuki makes a great engine, however I also believe mercury makes a great engine, so I went with the 300 pro xs, I will say it was a hard decision as I do believe in the suzuki hype but don't believe the mercs are junk as this video shows. If the merc does turn out to be needing attention, I can be at 3 dealers within 10 miles or so, the suzuki is damn near 40 miles,if suzuki was the "chosen one" as this video states then why doesn't more people sell em, hell they have been around long enough to be more accepted with the boat crowd, people look down upon you at the sandbar if you have a suzuki, like its a consolation prize, I've been hearing for years that suzuki will come around to more places yet they never do.
Great comment Nate! In your case with having a couple Merc dealers so close that's a logical decision to go with one. Suzuki has been in the offshore game mostly and over the last couple years has started to make the push into the bass boat market. With that will come an expanded dealer network across the country, it'll just take some time. In the case of people "looking down" on Suzuki's as a consolation prize always remember that their are some people who will argue that Nitro makes the highest quality best boat, Evinrude makes the most reliable outboards and that American isn't number 1! Some people are just flat out crazy! 😂🇺🇸
What is this a backyard comparison? Hard to take advice on two products when it's obviously based upon personal choice. The SS Suzuki's are good, I agree, but to call Suzuki a better performer on a pontoon boat is like calling a Cummins diesel a better motor in tug boat. Merc's are made to run, on boats designed to run, Suzuki has water intake problems that result in overheating. I'm sorry, I don't think the Suzuki is a BETTER motor, it just may have better applications on some boats than Mercury. I've been outrun by more Mercs than Suzuki's or Yamaha's on flats boats.
Hey Robbie the beautiful thing about having a UA-cam channel is that you get to give your personal take on things! When we say "better" we judge that by reliability first and foremost and if you think Merc's are more reliable then please pass whatever you're smoking! Hahaha Take a moment and read through all of these comments and hear what all of these fine folks have said then report back! PS Watch our Suzuki 250 SS unboxing video to hear the secret about changing to the 300 offshore screens to 100% eliminate the overheating! *wink wink

What’s the price comparison if a guy wanted to repower his boat what’s the cost of a new one in each brand
Would love to see that same brand battle but with the 150 HP motors!
So looking at a
200ss can you get it in drive by wire and can you get troll
Mode or should I go with the 200apx
Comment below on your experiences with having a Suzuki or Mercury
Ever ran a tempest on the zuke? They are very similar to the scorpion
Now Suzuki 250 vs Yamaha 250 sho... then Honda 250 vs mercy 250 prox😂
@@bradburnett4685 They do not lift like a scorpion.
@@kwd1253 You got it!
LOVE IT and once I get the height right and the juice prop on it, it's gonna be on!!! Keep putting out great content guys ~ these battles are cool as hell!
Thanks Randy! We appreciate it!! Ya just can't beat Suzuki's reliability. 👍🏻
Can you list the 3 shops in California. I’m in Tracy.❤
@@dennisbest4979 - Inland Marine in Antioc is the closest to you. H&H marine is in bay area I think snd the other was in the Eureka, ca area I think but don’t recall the name.
I actually drove to Oregon and purchased with install because it was about $3000 cheaper than I found in CA.
Hope this helps
You can buy a open rigging grommet for the V-6 V-8 only, Part number 25-8M0146954 is is for the dts models but will work easily, not smaller engines
I have a 1990 21 foot Swan Point Carolinian that I just recently restored, the original (gas-guzzling) 150 Evinrude on the boat needs to get yanked! I've been kicking tires on what brand of motor to get, and now I'm sold on the Sukuki SS. You sir are very thorough on articulating the Pros and Cons of these motors, I'm just not sure if the 250 will be too much motor for the old boat since the information plate that was once riveted to the boat is gone!
Could you please do a review on the new 90hp Suzuki? Love all your videos, thank you!
Andy, could you please talk about the Suzuki DF 115 motor. I am finding little to no information on these smaller motors and would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!
The 115 SS are great! We will make a specific smaller Suzuki Hp video. Great idea
Anyone have a crest pontoon with Suzuki 250ss I need to find out what prop to run
Can’t wait until Suzuki comes out with the new engine you are talking about. I hope it is lighter that the current 250SS.
Oh you're gonna like it buddy!
It's amazing where things have gone with these new 4 strokes! We were skeptical too when they were first introduced. Keep on rippin' those 2 Smokers!
Truth!
Dude I found this channel a few days ago..... awesome job man
Thanks buddy! Spread the word! 👍🏻
Does the Da140 suzuki stand as strong as the 250ss does ?
Totally waffling on the 115 pro xs and the 115 Yamaha Vmax for my 17 Alumacraft Competitor-- still haven't decided. Its a tough call, and its coming down to doing my own research as every dealer usually just beats up on the competition. It's been great listening to your take on a lot of this. Thanks for doing all these videos.
You are welcome William! At the end of the day go with whatever YOU feel is best and don't look back.
Buy the Yamaha, have had three Mercs and now have a Yamaha. No comparison, Yamaha by a long shot.
Yamaha all the way Suzuki are nice also but murk no way rather an etec and thats says something
Enjoyed the unbiased video from the Suzuki dealer that wears Suzuki underwear.
Finally someone understands! :)
Stfu
I am for sure buying a suzuki once we're back at work, i don't need performance, i need reliability, it'll be used for working, hauling heavy loads. But I am confused that there are 2 suzuki 250s, my old classmate has 250ss and loves it, so i thunk I'll get that.
I also saw this outboard I've never heard of before, 75hp tohatsu
Tohastu's are Nissan's and Nissan's are Tohatsu's if that makes any sense. Solid, reliable motors!!
The SS is their more performance oriented motor. The non SS model is only offered in a 25" shaft for offshore guys and the SS is available in a 20" and 25"...Both rock solid and reliable!!!
Can you give a review on the 150HP Suzuki ?
We can talk about that!
I like honesty people
HOW ABOUT WARRANTY?
Suzuki would be my next motor. Would like to put it on a Gator Trax or a 21ft Caymas. Have ya done an over/under on a 21ft Caymas?
Suzuki does make a good motor problem is trying to find a tech to work on one. I'll take mercury and a tech at most dealers.
Give them time to expand their network! 👍🏻
I would also choose the Suzuki as well. Mercury's quality is sadly not as good as it once was.
You're exactly right, it brings a tear to our eyes!
How does the suzukis do against the yamahas. ?
Suzuki has to win the price battle as well
It definitely does!
Hope Mercury can figure out all of their issues!
We certainly hope they do too!
I'll buy reliability over performance any day.
I went and bought a merc 150 for my boat first motor ever if i dont like it ill get a suzuki or yamaha i couldnt get yamaha cuz theres nothing here in Alaska and i got a good deal on my merc
Hope all is well up there Edward! Ya can't pass up good deals when they come by. Hope that Merc lasts ya forever bud! 👍🏻
@@TeamMarineService i hope so to man first motor ever a 150 i should of went the suzuki 115 route but the merc was a good deal i couldnt pass up on
Hey bud , what is causing the mercury motor to smoke
Well if you ask Mercury they have an answer...in our opinion it's not a very good answer but they do have one. Check out the comment section in our WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE MERCURY PRO XS video , many people have chimed in and even a Merc tech provided some great info
We knew Suzuki was going to win
You didn't mention price? I heard the Suzuki's were several thousand more for a 250.
What do you mean when the Mercury is not smoking?
They have an issue where oil will leak past the rings when the motor is trimmed down...smokes when ya start it back up to move to another spot.
@@TeamMarineService Happy Thanksgiving. Shit no Merc for me I have a Opti I'm thinking about repowering to 4 stroke. I'm probably going to go with the 225 zuk. The new Mercury cowling design is growing on me I didn't like it at first it definitely looks better in white in my opinion.
ss only comes in a 250 hp?
I so wish suzuki would do a 20 inch 225
I actually like the appearance of the Merc 4S. What about the weight of the 2 motors?
The only comment we have in regards to weight is Mercury thinks making everything out of plastic is the deal and Suzuki doesn't!
@@TeamMarineService I found it. 578 for the SS and 505 for the Merc
Yep you're correct on those weights!
Hey mate love the video, what's the chance on a review on all suzuki models?
We could get around to that!
When does Suzuki offer the SS on a 200 and 225 platform??? They are missing out on performance market for smaller boats.
They make a 200 SS and we have been on their case to make a 225! Time will tell
Mercury needs to build a motor like my 1995 200 EFI and it's still running and haven't done anything to it major. Plugs, water impeller
There's a lot of ifs Big Guy on the performance side.
What about PRICE ???
Yes. Price out the door ready to perform correctly (so replacing the Suzuki prop).
Whens the champion build coming back
Soon!
can you talk about the Mercury Pro XS 2 stroke
Mercury just can't hang! Lol
We encourage you to check out our video with Adrian Avena AND our Solar Scorpion Team Talk and report back! ;)
Like the suzuki better than the mercury
Hell yeah Kirk!
Suzuki slower then yamaha and merc but suzuki able to push heavier boats
Lol yah kayak starting to look pretty good
If that’s US dollars I’d hate to see what it cost hear
Are you in Canada? A Canadian viewer of our said it was around $121k canadian... out-freakin-ragous!
please coment on a yamaha f350
Mercury prop on Suzuki motor. Problem solved.
He could have put a knife in it if he would have brought up price difference
Hmmm unbiased?? Hahaha 🤣
A former Mercury guy becomes a Suzuki fan and through that becomes a Suzuki dealer! Soap Opera material!!! Haha
@@TeamMarineService Hahaha Let's write the screenplay!
I like my merc 150 4 stroke its faster then them slowzukis
*wink wink
Just another butt hurt Mercury fan boy! Mercury will be a racing division only in 5 years!
@@TeamMarineService Spot on Team!
Robbie is in denial and it's sad...:(
I don't trust both. The new 300F Yamaha steering keeps me
I see you left yamaha out so that suzuki could win something...
Check out our brand battle between all 3 of the major Japanese brands
Mercury is the best.
I like watching your videos, but if you're going to bleep out every other word, why not just make the video without cursing. It really aint that hard to do. Plus UA-cam would like you much more.
MERCURY china made?
Usually the best stuff does come from China...oh waittttt!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
