We used to mow hey with a ford 3000 and a ford 5000. That was back in the 70's. The Ford tractors had some transmission problems where they would go out every 2 to 3 years. We had a very large Massey , dont remember the model number which we used to bail hay. I know it had 10 hydraulic plugs on the back. With the recession my Dad sold the ranch.
nice tractor and mower. we always leave the outside cut for the last round. if you hit debri on that pass and damage the mower aleast the rest of the field is cut. instead of taking the chance as soon as you're getting started.

Good catch on finding the pipe before damaging your mower. Last year I picked up a shepherds hook laying in a filed with new knives on my mower. Needless to say I was upset. It was a custom baling job and asked the customer to pay to replace the knives and he did. Hope your season goes well. Our weather in southern Indiana has been extremely wet and now it’s forecast to have a week of the hottest weather we’ve had in 5 years.
I’ve got the same tractor and loader. Bought it in August of 2021 with 75 hrs on it. Really like the tractor. So far I’m happy with its power and fuel consumption. Has lots of nice features and the dyna 4 transmission is great with good working speeds. Excellent visibility out the back to the drawbar and three point hitch. My local Massey Ferguson dealer told me not to use synthetic oil in the engine. It’s ok in truck Diesel engines but not tractor Diesel engines. They’ve had issues with the oil. Tractor engines don’t run consistently hot enough.

like the new tractor look like it works well. i mow hay the same way you do run over the outside and after i open it up or finish with the field mow the back swath. my opinion the is no wrong way, something don't make sense to people so they think you are doing it wrong, or they are like my father n law and if it and done his way its wrong. as long as all the hay is laying on the ground doesn't matter which way its done. that hay will be NICE and tender for the horses. great video like always.

When we use our pull-type mower, we open fields either way: drive on outside round and then cut back --OR-- go backwards and cut the outside round first and then go normal for the rest. it all depends on your mood that day or if you feel that you may damage mower doing the outside round so you leave it until last.
I always start mowing with tractor to the outside of Field grandpa told me when I was 12 years old all you get is sticks and stuff you can't see going into the mower then swing tongue came along you run over more hay trying to get turned around rather than making a few passes then taking that outside round
That Massey seems to have good power. Be interested in seeing it on a little rougher field to see your thoughts. We have a good Kubota dealer here, but I've been eyeballing Masseys for a while. I really like they don't regen. Even though they have Def, looks to me that might eliminate a few issues. Look forward to updates and see your true thoughts
I got a quote on one just like yours and on a jd 5115m, but we decided to hold off on both after I found out about a tumor and some bad discs on my spine. I had to pass on 50 acres of really really nice rental land too! At this point I should probably just sell it all and quit.

Heck fire years ago I run an 80 rod of barbed wire through a r 80 Mac don disc mower if I would have seen it before I would have picked it up like that pipe never hurt the disc mower run it for several years but it spread the wire out for about 300 feet of the windrow.
Jon Stevens was showing changing the pto shaft on his big Massey the other day. At least they are a sealed unit so the oil won’t get contaminated switching back and forth. Are there any poultry or mushroom production facilities handy to you where you can get compost to use instead of fertilizer?
What do you get for a small square bale of hay....my uncle bought hay 50 years ago for 64 cents a bale at an auction....just curious how much it's gone up
Do you ever have issues with mixing hydraulic oils between different manufacturers when you get new pieces of equipment and then hook them up to equipment you've had for a while?
@@DLHFarms But it's not a mounted mower, and you must have enough traction with 4wd. I always remove mine it saves demolishing hedges and trees on the headlands when making tight turns. I once used a 60hp tractor on an 8ft mounted mower. It worked OK but it bent the kink arms! Good luck with your hay, I'm about to bale some silage in UK.
Man you might want to re-think about the synthetic oil in the gear boxes as it really builds up heat and can cause bearings to cook. Synthetic oil does not dissipate heat like dyno oil do that why most all manufactures recommend against synthetic in gearboxes.
Wow good deal might be do to it running such low rpm. I know on a lot of pump gear boxes and in automotive differential it will void warranty if synthetic oil is added do to heat build up.
rule of thumb is 10hp per foot , add a guardian gear box need another 10hp , also meadows in the US are very light compared to Europe , it would never drive that mower in a heavy crop in Europe , 10 foot with guardian gear box would be a challenge for that massey 5711 at 105 hp ,
@@DLHFarms Hm! Didn’t see the loader move any relative to the tractor but saw the tractor do the typical road bounce. I’ve run a Quicke loader with Softdrive for over 10,000 hours and even without a tool attached it is supremely effective at suspending the boom and indeed stopping all tractor bounce. I fitted new spheres last year because the originals no longer contained gas, so no suspension, and the difference in ride was like night and day. It’s so easy to forget how good the system is when it degrades slowly. Should say that my loader was new in 1998. I’ve never had the need to turn mine off but unlike current models, mine has a mechanical tap to isolate the spheres.
I don’t think there’s a right way or wrong way to mow the field, especially with the hydraswing cutters now, as long as you make sure to cut the backswath before you leave the field.
I forgot my microphone. When I first start the mower you can hear me fine while I’m holding the camera the problem starts when I stick the magnetic camera to the frame of the cab which causes you to hear the vibration in the metal of the cab I can’t hear that in the cab. It’s not that loud in the tractor. It’s about 74 decibels in the cab. It’s not as quiet as the 6R though but it’s also not a premium tractor.

I was always taught to mow it clock wise n when u finish ho back n back mow outside. Reason Dad said was u more likely to break a section or knife.

It’s not been that wet here but it’s still hard to do any hay because the predict rain every other day

I’ve 2 fields ready to go if we get some nice weather. We’re about 4-6 weeks early with it but the flowers are out

That feild is really rough. That tractor is down on power from the factory but there are ways to help that.

Why mow with the loader still attached? It takes less than 2 mins to remove it.
