Thank you for your tribute to Shoestring. I miss him already it's crazy I never met him wish I had! but his passing has really upset me. What a legend nobody like him a great story teller & travel guide for the US. RIP Mark, thanks for everything. 😢♥️🙏
Never seen your videos before. But I'm an old train rider from the 1987. Shoestring got the wandering spirit in me, wants to go. But job, relationship, living comfortable. It's shameful that we let the comfort of society makes our minds up. From enjoying life to the fullest. Shoestring will always be the King of the rails. R.I.P. you're life was amazing.
I will greatly miss Mark (Shoestring) Nichols, a true adventurer. Mark's videos took me to places I will never see in my lifetime. The beauty of riding the rails in this great country of ours. His appreciation of nature and the natural resources across our landscapes that he made us aware of. Mark (Shoestring) Nichols, you will be missed by many. I'm glad I stumbled upon your videos during the beginning months of a global pandemic. You brought back a more comforting time during some of our darkest days of our lives with your inspiring videos. God bless you Mark. Thanks for the great memories you have left us. RIP - taken from us too soon.
Yea in his videos I seen some awesome places. Alaska especially. Lots of camps, wherever he was. I only rode down the East Coast and at least I have that

Great tribute. I too will think of Shoestring when I hear or see a train. Something inside many of us that can relate to his lifestyle, even if we did not fully live it ourselves. Wanderlust I guess.
You can tell shoestring is still with us in spirit, you said first time u ever filmed one of these maintenance vehicle, that would of been something shoestring would of definitely filmed, and all of those horns just sounded like a tribute to him man, he was a jokester no doubt and that would of been something he’d of liked. I swear it just felt like he had a hand in that and then u said he was messing around to fool u. Very cool. Rip mark and thanks for your respect brother, subscribed!
Mark was much in pain and stress from different things he was excellent at hiding his ailments. He had just had enough and so now it is over. God Rest your soul Mark we who understand the way and the result hold no grudges. Rest well we will miss you.
Shoe string is at peace now yall. Lets celebrate his life guys. He would never want you to be sad bros. Much love. Peace and respect, patience and understanding yall
I'm still struggling with his passing, I would get restless waiting for him to go out and ride and make a new video, he was so brave to sleep outside in the woods and in Alaska all by himself, I hate this! I miss him.Do you think riding the trains on the East Coast is doable these days?
I lost a good buddy to suicide, it wrecks your head for sure. Dont think ill ever fully understand what makes a person do that..the mind is a fragile organ..
Great tribute indeed. I was training watching on April 16, 2024 at Point or Rocks, Maryland and Brunswick, Maryland. Thinking of Shoestring. Hoping to maybe see a tag. I agree with comment below, that Wanderlust pulls me in on this type of video. 🚆

There's a few that are good in their own ways. I like "Yard Buzzards" "Jaw Tooth" "Ran out on a rail" "Gifgas" "East TN rail Ray" that I subscribe to
