Good train. BNSF headed towards downtown Houston. As soon as I got my tripod and camera set up it took off from the train yard a few miles down the line.

Happy independence day everyone!!!!! Today I decided to get 4 trains on the 4th of July. I ended up getting 5 trains because the last train was 2 trains running side by side crossing Sampson street in Houston 🙃. I was also surprised that the first train was led by 2 Union Pacific's and a Ferromex locomotive. This was my first time seeing a Ferromex. 👍
Two trains this evening. First one had 2 DPUs. 2nd was hauling Gigantic wind turbine blades.

A Union Pacific train crossing the diamonds at tower 85 in the greater East end. And a horn salute.

Happy Memorial day!!! Today I hung around tower 85 at the diamonds and it took about 3 hours in some brutal heat. Heat warning advisory today, but it was worth it. And as the last train was hitting the diamonds I got a horn salute from the engineer.

Saw so many great shows there. It was the Abyss of Asbestos. The best pit ever cause once you were in it and the beer was on the floor...you were'nt leaving unless you beat everyone else down under the band logos painted on the wall.
I seen some great bands there, had lots of beer and Met some hot metal head and punk girls there. It was an awesome venue.
Yay! Thank you for filming this! Planning to visit soon.
Hope all is okay with you!
Been alright but busy
I've explored here, too. The place is fenced off now.
I noticed that not long ago.
A+ good to know history of the store!
You can tell shoestring is still with us in spirit, you said first time u ever filmed one of these maintenance vehicle, that would of been something shoestring would of definitely filmed, and all of those horns just sounded like a tribute to him man, he was a jokester no doubt and that would of been something he’d of liked. I swear it just felt like he had a hand in that and then u said he was messing around to fool u. Very cool. Rip mark and thanks for your respect brother, subscribed!
I swear I think I seen him with them maintenance vehicles 👍
Already miss his video, R.I.P. MARK
Learned a lot just watching shoestring he knew where trains were going too!!! Good stuff
Love them
They're awesome and really sweet women in person
RIP Shoestring. Thanks for allowing me to join you on your adventures. You're a good man. I really wish scumbags like Kent Krueger would stop pissing on your grave. Enjoy heaven shoestring, I hope to join you there

Thanks for sharing
Man it's wild out there. Glad you're doing okay.
Yea we're all good, got the electricity back at my place Monday
And how you been?
If it weren't for the Kaelen Mikla band, I wouldn't have found you, and I wouldn't know that two tornadoes have hit Houston. Thanks for the news, Man! I wish have a great day!
Yea it was, sudden. I got my power back in my Apartment 4 days later, some people Are still without
Nice! 👍
Rip to him its been some years but I use to watch his videos.
Pretty cool 🆒 from Indiana love 🚆 train 🚂🚃🚃🚂🚃🚃😊
There was a Captain Ds on the southwest side. After it closed it became one of those daiquiri places, then it was a tax loan place, then it was an abandoned building where i assume squatters were hanging about, and eventually it was tore down. My best memories of Long Johns and Captain Ds is when i was living up north. But most definitely the last few years of their operations quality steadily went downhill.
the steamer looks to be a 2-10-2
MKT Missouri, Kansas, & Texas. Also known as Miss Katy.
Shoe string is at peace now yall. Lets celebrate his life guys. He would never want you to be sad bros. Much love. Peace and respect, patience and understanding yall
Extremely interesting thanx for the info
👍
HB & T: Houston Belt & Terminal
Yep, I had to look that one up. Also the MKT "Missouri, Kansas, Texas".
The 982 (nee 3651) was built by Baldwin in 1919 for SP. it is a "Santa Fe" type engine.
my brother shoestring rest in peace ❤❤
Thanks for sharing your info on Mark. Best wishes to you !
Looking at the engine and wheel configuration it looks to be an old Mikado with the wheel pattern 2-8-2. Very cool steam engine.
I'm not too familiar with trains, especially older ones. They are cool to see. Wish I could've seen them in action.
The steam locomotive was in Herman park by the zoo for a long time. The oil tender, it burned oil not coal, was sold to a tourist train in Utah. The collection of cars and locomotives belong to the Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and hopefully will be moved soon to the Galveston Railroad Museum.
That's cool. I never been to the zoo in Houston yet, even though I lived here for 11 years lol
That's 982, the engine that was on display at Hermann Park for over 60 years. It was briefly moved to a spot near Minute Maid park where a museum was supposed to get built, but that fell through. It's currently in storage for a newly formed group that is going to restore the engine completely and put it into excursion service.
Wow, You're absolutely right, it is the one I seen many times in front of Minute maid park 👍. Thanks for mentioning that and reminded me.
Rest in peace Shoestring
1970 also
Best generation 👍
Thank you
No problem 👍
Mark was much in pain and stress from different things he was excellent at hiding his ailments. He had just had enough and so now it is over. God Rest your soul Mark we who understand the way and the result hold no grudges. Rest well we will miss you.
He kept making his videos through it all. The man moved on as the patron saint of train riders the way I sees it
Great tribute indeed. I was training watching on April 16, 2024 at Point or Rocks, Maryland and Brunswick, Maryland. Thinking of Shoestring. Hoping to maybe see a tag. I agree with comment below, that Wanderlust pulls me in on this type of video. 🚆
Great vid I wish I had a reverser handle, thats really cool!
Yea I'll keep it with the two rail spikes I found, start a collection. I'm wanting to order a model of a CSX locomotive from CSXs official site too
I thought Reversers were made of metal?
I didn't know what it was at first. A friend of mine sent me a link saying what it is. There's also a cool video from a guy who has one too, search up reverser handle on YT
Just discovered your channel. I have subscribed and will share it. I think we all are missing & mourning our friend, Shoestring. He was a true, genuine legend. Legends never die! He'll live on in our hearts and memories forever! Just like we all will miss & love, Shoestring forever. Thank you. Excellent video, sir!
Yea I subscribe to a few cool train/train rider channels, but Shoestring's videos were some of the best. He was quite a informative guy and good story teller
Nice video
Thanks 👍😎
Great tribute. I too will think of Shoestring when I hear or see a train. Something inside many of us that can relate to his lifestyle, even if we did not fully live it ourselves. Wanderlust I guess.
Thank you for your tribute to Shoestring. I miss him already it's crazy I never met him wish I had! but his passing has really upset me. What a legend nobody like him a great story teller & travel guide for the US. RIP Mark, thanks for everything. 😢♥️🙏
I enjoyed his videos, he was really down in his later videos
I've never road a train, but going to miss shoestring. Rip friend.
That MOW Crew sent their respect
RIP 🙏 I love watching your videos. You will be missed
MARK NICHOLS AKA "HOBO SHOESTRING" WAS ONE OF A KIND!!!! LIVED HIS LIFE, HIS OWN WAY, HIS VIDEOS ARE VERY INTERESTING, AND ENJOYABLE TO WATCH!!! HE WILL BE MISSED, BY MANY PEOPLE. A SAD ENDING TO HIS LIFES JOURNEY. TRAVEL THE SKYS " HOBO" ENJOY THE JOURNEY!!!!
Do they know what happen to him ??
I haven't heard anything yet.
Never seen your videos before. But I'm an old train rider from the 1987. Shoestring got the wandering spirit in me, wants to go. But job, relationship, living comfortable. It's shameful that we let the comfort of society makes our minds up. From enjoying life to the fullest. Shoestring will always be the King of the rails. R.I.P. you're life was amazing.
Near south yard
Bnsf railroader. Rip shoestring Met him once in Beaumont Texas. I’m in Houston now headed north
