This song is written by Tuomas, as a ode to hes Father that passed away in 2021, Floor sings absolute beautiful on this, and Troy joining at end, perfect!! I lost my Father 6 years ago, and my mother 5 years ago, listening to this, will bring me memories of them, and this is a song of sadness, beauty and hope at same time, its a song i would consider a masterpiece, love it!! This was the first song Tuomas wrote for the new album Yesterwynde
What's truly wonderful about this song is that, for those of us who have been with Nightwish for decades, we can read between the lines of how truly deep this song goes. This song makes so many connections to many of their previous songs in this album, as well as past albums. Then there's the easter eggs that Nightwish fans just recognize. It's like we almost KNOW the exact language Tuomas speaks, and I do not mean Finnish, or English. It's an emotion. This song is about our parents, it's about our children, it's about our decades in the sun, it's about our predestination... our endlessness in the ancient unseen stream of life. An incomplete weave that just goes on and on. It's been built by all of our ancestors, to be continued by our predecessors.
This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. I'm 73 and the last man standing in my family. I understand the loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. Her face, good Lord, her face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.
I remember when my last aunt died, aged 100, and I realised I was at the top of my family tree. And now it's over 100 years since my first aunt died, and I feel the weight of familial time in a way which resonates with Yesterwynde. This is such a beautiful capstone to the album; I'm wiping away tears again. RIP my dad, Eric, 1915-1982, and my mum, Jenny, 1921-2005.
@@elvwood You get it, sir. Your place on this Earth changes irrevocably once you realize the full implication of being the last man standing. Tuomas touches on this theme in many ways on this album. It hits hard in Perfume of the Timeless as well. God rest the souls of your ancestors.
This song reminds me of "Our Decades In the Sun" it has a similar subject matter, family, and loved ones. The line "I am you who climbed off of my back" is a reference to "Our Decades In the Sun" I think. And the album, Yesterwynde, feels like a hybrid between Nightwish and Auri.
Great to see you reacting to this! It's the last song on the album and it had me in tears... 'Yesterwynde' is a fantastic album. It takes you on a journey through time and life with captivating stories and great melodies. Absolutely worth a listen.
This is the last song on the album, the intro of Yesterwynde begins with the old film projector sound & ends with the same sound. The film is reminiscing lost loved ones.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that for me empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, pain and/or sorrow, there is beauty and hope/solace to be found under the glow of the lanternlight.
Thank you, very nice reaction! Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things! Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.
This song is just Stellar, breathtakingly beautiful, hopeful and little sad... Thank you guys for this reaction !!!! NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan 🤘😎🤘
Tuomas Holopainen wrote it as a reflection upon his father’s passing in 2021. He reflects on how we have been blessed to have had lantern lights who have guided our lives and how we in turn should serve the same role for others. It is about our love for each other. The Welsh and Northern English word "wynde" means a narrow lane or alley between homes. Basically we walk that narrow alley between our ancestors and our descendants lighting the way between generations until we become the ancestors when we walk into the yesterwynde. Gone is the hurt, the wait, gone is the warmth of day. A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved, on into a velvety night, beneath a lanternlight. Last night brought the heaviest of snows melting the songs of old, tying the boat, write a new one soon, sending me to the drowning moon, far above a lanternlight. I'm in the light and flood, I'm in the four winds, I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems, I am the snow on your palm. I am the secret stream, moss beneath your feet, I am you who climbed off of my back not long ago, a sheltered song in a world now gone, petrichor, the timeless. Turn loose the swaying boat, meltwater, sound of spring. I hear our song now, sung by the free, for a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave. To the meadows I go, I’ll be waiting for you once upon a lanternlight. I walk now toward the trees, I am the secret stream, the night falling at my feet into the forest of Yesterwynde.
Just when you thought that Floor's voice reaches in and touches every part of you... Lanternlight happens. The album "Yesterwynde" is an exceptional cohesive collection of songs that need to be listened to and contemplated as a whole 🙏❤️
As others have mentioned, this song is personal to Tuomas and there are references to a couple of his songs with his Auri side project. "I'm in the light and flood" references Auri's song "Light and Flood", and "I'm in the four winds" also references the Auri song "Scattered to the Four Winds". Auri is one of Tuomas's other musical ventures that he does with his wife Johanna Kurkela and fellow Nightwish members Troy Donockley and Kai Hahto. It has a much different feel than Nightwish. Some of the lyrics also reference older NW songs and other songs on this same album as well but the Auri lines are the more easily missed ones. You are also correct, this album is meant to be listened to start to finish as an experience, but they actually consider the past 2 albums as part of a trilogy. Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Human | Nature, and now Yesterwynde. Nightwish are musical storytellers and these albums are connected.
@@ecbftl You may be correct. I had already heard Auri's catalogue but I didn't catch the references upon first listen. I had looked up the lyrics on genius and there were updates made highlighting phrases in the song about what they mean, but those are contributed by users. These songs are so fresh that probably not all of the references have been connected on there yet.
@@Chris239316 Yes, lots of references in this soul touching song 😊. In addition to those you mentioned, I think there is also a reference to Altamullan Road song called Hearts of Old. Altamullan Road is another great band with Tuomas’s wife Johanna Kurkela and an amazing singer-songwriter Johanna Iivanainen. I might be totally wrong, but I also hear echoes of Now We Are Free from the movie Gladiator. That is one of Tuomas’s all time favourite songs.
Hey guys. Thank you for reacting to this wonderful and beautiful ballad. Floor is amazing and Troy provides nice vocals near the end. This entire album is a Tuomas masterpiece from start to finish. Love it.
Enjoyed your reaction! Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy.
This song is deep and touches me deep. It‘s about the ones we lost but who are not fully gone. I`m in the light and flood I`m in the four winds I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems I am the snow on your palm When even Floor has teary eyes while recording the video …
Last song on the album and the projector is turned off ... First song on the album and the projector is turned on ... ... and ... yes ... Nightwish has other ballads ....
I listened to Tuomas explain what this song was, it’s not a sad song but a love song about somebody who lived a long happy life and passed away. Hè said it’s a celebration of that life. Hè wrote it after his father passed away. I can fully understand him, last year my parents passed away 5 days after each other, first my mum at 90 followed 5 days later by my dad at almost 94. They had been a couple for 71 years of which 69 married. Their farewell ceremony was a celebration of their life. They travelled the world together, lived on 3 different continents, been to more countries and places than most people ever even dreamed of. Along the way they had 4 children who all turned out pretty well, beautiful grandchildren and even one great grand daughter who often visited them in their final years. This song was their life.
That is the genius of Tuomas, everyone can interpret this song the way they feel it. With Floor, he has the muse who can realise his feelings emotionally.
About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII (yes, I'm that old) and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.” ua-cam.com/video/3IVQ-1t92hA/v-deo.htmlsi=hXFM4fDfXhhyaWan
I still wonder what kind of party Tuomas had in his brain when floor told him that she is joining Nightwish. You have made this your life and you get her to front your band after the problems. It must have been a very nice feeling.
Since this album is the last of the Trilogy, that started with "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" then "Human ::||:: Nature" ...and now "YesterWynde" The 3 albums take us on a journey through time...personally, I want my sister, who has an amazing voice, to sing this song when my time is over.
