Jorge, had Floor not answered the SOS to join the band mid-tour in 2012, we wouldn't even be talking about this, as the band would have split. Troy confirmed this in an interview last week, voicing what many had suspected when Anette was sacked. Tarja and Floor are friends and constant comparisons have become wearisome. Tuomas writes songs to compliment the strenghs of whoever is singing (and that includes both Marko and Troy) so the question is moot. Also, it is 19 years since Tarja left, so the passage of time and a wealth of lived experience has changed each member of the band.
I concur. It's like: would you like to live in the past, be young again, or be who you are today, with what you learned? Wellwell But it also, sadly, sounds like: this will make them comment a ton, a fight, heated emotions - and that boosts my algorithm. 🙄
I only got exposed to Nightwish in 2020 and just fell in love with Floor. So much so we travelled to Germany to go see her and Nightwish live. What an experience. What a song man ❤❤
Tuomas writes his songs such that he leaves the interpretation to listeners. Using a bit of background information, my husband and I interpreted Lanternlight from Nightwish's 10th album entitled "Yesterwynde" as follows. Tuomas Holopainen, the composer and songwriter, is the pianist, who wrote the song as a reflection upon his father’s passing a while back. He reflects on how we have been blessed to have had lantern lights (parents, teachers, friends, and so forth) who have guided us and how we in turn should serve the same role for others. It is about our love for each other. The Welsh and Northern English word "wynde" means a narrow lane or alley between homes. It is pronounced as "wind the clock" and not "wind in the trees". My husband believes that Floor is voicing Tuomas's father. From the lyrics, you can see his father speaks of having left the hurt and the warmth of life. But he is in the wind, trees, snow, memories and he will be waiting. Troy voices Tuomas. In the Outro, he states that he walks towards the trees and into the forest of Yesterwynde. You can interpret the phrasing as: we all walk towards our ancestors as we age. Basically we, as Lanternlights, walk that narrow lane between our ancestors and our descendants lighting the way between generations until we, inexorably, join our ancestors when we walk into the yesterwynde.
That was a beautiful and I believe, an accurate interpretation of the lyrics of Lanternlight which, is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard, ever
This song is deep and touches deep. It‘s about the ones we lost but who are not fully gone. I`m in the light and flood I`m in the four winds I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems I am the snow on your palm When even Floor has teary eyes while recording the video …
I came to Nightwish as Tarja was the singer, she fit well at that time. Now I prefer Floor because her timbre is warmer and her voice fits better to the songs written after she joined the band. As for duets I miss Marko but for "slow" songs I prefer Troy's voice in addition to Floor's. ETA: Like in this song 🥰
@@GeorgeTheCloud I agree. I even liked Annette in "her" songs. She had the bad luck to have to sing older songs live which she just didn't have the voice and vocal technique for. I hope Floor stays for a while 🙂
💖Mother Earth💖 That is EXACTLY what I Always In My Mind I Always think that Floor Is The Mother Earth 💖She is Sooo Grounded .. The Way She Is... Her Looks, Her Gracious, Her Strength, Her No Nonsens Action, Her Power Stand, Her Empathie, and The Love that She Projects💖 💖In My Point Of View , Floor Jansen is Truly "Mother Earth"💖
I started to listen to Nightwish when Tarja was the singer. But I absolutely prefer Floor. I always loved the music but listening to Tarja for too long was just too much. It was all just one dimensional to me. Floor has a tone of voice that I really love, she can sing anything, in many different ways and it just hits me differently. I've seen Nightwish with her twice and also her solo shows 4 times. And every time as soon as she started singing I started crying. No idea why, just a gut reaction. She's also an empath and is able to put so much emotion into her voice that even my dumb autistic self can feel it 😅 Not to mention, with her versatility, Tuomas can write whatever he wants, she'll be able to sing it.
I just started with listening to Nighwish after Beste Zangers, but You perfectly described my feelings about Nightwish (including feeling things as an auti :-) ) Somehow she gives voice to my feelings I can not express myself...
This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I understand the loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. Her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling
Yes, I'd also love to visit Swederlands someday ;) Oh and Floor. The absolute master in all things vocal: versatility, unmatched raw natural talent, stage presence, off stage presence, dynamic impact only surpassed by her emotional reach, in classical mode a coloratura soprano with a timbre to die for, a true team player, always giving all she's got whether it's a small or a big event, a magnificent, almost larger than life siren from the North Sea Lowlands.. Yeah, no discussion 🤘
This song was inspired by the death of Tuomas's fathern. I interpret the lantern as your inner self after a loss. It hangs in the tree dark and cold at the beginning, in a cold minimal landscape. In the middle, is is lit a little, at the end brighter. it represents the stages of grieving. A beautiful, haunting, powerful song, showing off Floor's growing ability to powerfully express emotion. I love all three of Nightwish's singer's and each represents a stage in the growth of the band. Tarja's voice is more operatic, darker, warmer tone up high. Annette was more of a pop singer, Floor is the most flexible, has the clearest tone. and is the most charismatic on stage. Tuomas wrote for each singer fit the music to their talents. Enjoy them all for what they are, enjoy the band for how it approached music in each stage of its artistic development.
For the Nightwish of the past Tarja, Anette was a perfect fit for her studio albums not so much live and Floor is perfect for the new and old, For studio and live and for heavy and soft
As a person who has seen all 3 vocalists live and loved all their albums. to me Floor is the more versatile singer I know she can pull off more of the back catalogue of Nightwish, I think I love Floor more now. I just love the music they create.
I am a Flooraholic, so the answer to your question is easy. Tarja obviously has a greater operatic background and is better in that regard, but Floor can do it all from full operatic to death growls. Tuomas has now no limits in writing his songs and as Floor likes to be challenged, Tuomas takes advantage of that.
All NW singers are great IMO, only question is, how well the voice suits for the song. But of course, Floor is a goddess, and probably the most versatile female singer I’ve ever heard. I’m sorry for your pet, I know how painful losing a pet can be. 💔 I like your thoughts regarding this song. Good job!
My hot take on the 3 vocalists: I don't care, and as a fan I'm happy about every departure of any former member. I'm not apathetic about vocals. Each vocalist performed very proficiently on their respective studio albums as the music required. Music is not a competitive sport. I don't need a more technically skilled or "vocally athletic" singer to somehow elevate the music, especially since the music is already superb and dynamic. I never listen to a song like Storytime and think "I wish Floor had sung this on the record". I love their live videos with Floor, but I listen to the album recordings for the full experience. I'm also glad for every vocalist that left. Not only have their decision made them happier in their personal life, but look at it this way - we now have 4 times as much music from them: Tarja, Anette, Marco all have release quality solo albums. I'm a big fan of Tarja solo in particular. How do we as fans get to have more great music from the artists we like and still find ways to complain and argue lol!
The preference for Tarya or Floor highly depends on when you started listening to Nightwish and if you prefer operatic style above other styles. It made Nightwish unique in the early days. My preference is Thuomas music (both Auri and Nighwish) for me his music resonates with me in a unique way. Floor never tried to take over Tarya's style and always went her own way when performing the songs. And i'm glad for it, if you like the operatic versions of these numbers then they are there already for you, no need to do that again. But Floor showed with songs like Shoemaker (and some of her Revamp work) that she is perfectly capable of the operatic style if she wants to, no need to prove it.
Snow The stillness in beauty forget the cold at the sight of pristine Dressed warmly, I run outside early in the morning no one has walked on it yet Snow Brings out the child in you snowball fight with all the neighbors making snowman and then when everyone is back inside hot chocolate with rum or without Snow In the serene silence of the night the snowman looks over the white field white as a blank page Anne
Tarja was important part in Nightwish, but there is NO COMPARISON; Floor Jansen is The G.O.A.T. hands down! Her range, control, learning set list in 48 hrs, never-before felt raw emotion she brings, opera, classical, growling, those longgggggg notes vibrate right through you, Floor makes even hairy burley grown-ass men Floorgasm and cry often at the same moment! I am approaching 70, the only other singer making me feel this incredible emotion ever was Andrea Boccelli live! Floor is the Goddess ❤️🔥
I like the older songs with Tarja that were written for her voice. Something like Slaying the Dreamer really works with Tarja's operatic sound as it's such a contrast with the heaviness of the track. I know Floor can kind of do operatic but it's not the same quality as Tarja's and she sings SLD in a kind of blended/chest voice that doesn't suit the song.
Sorry to hear about your dog bro. Both ladies have amazing vocals and are friends I only prefer Floor more because she can sing almost any genre and i find her more charismatic but that's my opinion.
Depends on the song. For example, Anette is much better that Floor singing e.g. "Scaretale", "Slow, love, slow" and others. As to Tarja and Floor - There are some Tarja's songs that are sung by Floor in a very different manner, and "I wish, I had an Angel|" and the "Siren" are Tarja's songs.
Actually I do not understand, why people keep forgetting Anette. True, she was best at studio albums (though the live performances of "Slow, love, slow" and "Scaretale" are perfect. But it was a significant period of the band's history (the movie "Imaginaerum" and all). And only Anette managed to be an innocent child, a femme fatale and an evil Snow White at the same time.
Dont agree, maybe at Scaretale Anette sings okay, but Slow Love Slow at Floor's Solo Tour, Floor is much better. But yes, its a question of personal taste, for me Anette is a third class Pop Singer, but its only my opinion.
Floor or Tarja; I never asked myself this question. I love them both and both have helped shape the band. I was never lucky enough to see Tarja with Nightwish Live (I was born in 2002), but I love her old recordings. In fact, I didn't get to know Nightwish and Floor until I was 10 in 2013 in Wacken.
