    It’s good to see the chambering process in action. Some UA-camrs think it might be boring for their viewers to watch but not for this firearms enthusiast. Thanks for showing us how you went about it . Cheers 🍻

    • @vaughnprecision

      Well, it was my impression that if shot in 4K then compressed by UA-cam it would still look better. I watched my video before this on and then this new video on the big screen and I can see a difference but not so much on a small screen.... oh well, I still love the new camera.!

  • @emtee212

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  3 роки тому +1

      UA-cam compresses it down but from what I can tell it retains more detail vs 1080 compressed. I could load in straight 4K without compression but it would take a month of sundays to load a video.

    Your video looks great! I've watched a lot of your videos and just subscribed yesterday after watching your second MEC marksman press review. Im very new to handloading and I couldn't help but notice how little runout (if any) you were getting on your finished cartridges. I also have a new MEC press, I'm loading 30-06 useing forester micro adjust seating die, 165gr hornady sst and lapua brass (first fired). On some of the cartridges the needle barely moves but on others I'm getting up to .003 of runout. Is this normal? Or could it be something I'm going to create these little inconsistencies? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. I've learned alot from watching your videos. Keep them coming and thanks.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  3 роки тому +3

      Getting a small amount of run out is normal. It can be caused by several things, even brass spring back after sizing. If all your getting is .003 I wouldn’t worry much at all.

    Glad to see you’re back making videos man. Picture looks great. Had a quick question. I’m getting ready to do my first chambering on a Savage barrel. If I heard right your target was 0.126” off the face of the go gauge to the face of the bore. I assume that’s equal to the depth of pocket in the bolt face. Do you try to hit that bolt face depth exactly, or do you make it a little long for a crush fit on your brass? Like + 0.001-0.002”? Thanks

    • @vaughnprecision

      .125 to .130 will work, but that depends on the caliber your reaming it for to.

    • @Jmastffp

      It’s for a 50 action express. I’m using a .223 bolt face. Pressures and everything will work. 223 is the closest bolt face to the cartridge rim dia. I’ll send ya some pics of it when it’s done. Waiting on my reamer to come from PTG in mid-March

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  3 роки тому +2

      If you polish it to much or use to heavy of grit paper you could yes. But 600 grit with light pressure for just a few seconds won’t change the dimensions of the chamber.

    • @TheMcgee80
      @TheMcgee80 3 роки тому

    Why would you center the barrel to such a small degree and then have a free floating tailstock? It seems that is redundant. Belt and suspenders?

    • @jefferyboring4410
      @jefferyboring4410 2 місяці тому

      I’d imagine even though it’s free float it still has pressure trying hold it in position when cutting “because it’s got forward pressure and friction” so if the barrel isn’t even it’s more likely to oblong the chamber. So your more likely to get atleast a tighter more even chamber

    One half of one ten thousandth? Based on your use of that particular test indicator, you are actually out a half of a thousandth. At that particular location on the rod. That 10 on the dial refers to ten of the ten thousandths increments or ONE thousandth. The really terrible thing about that method is that it is not repeatable. Try this, dial it in then pull the rod and re insert it, you will get a different reading. But, by using a floating reamer holder, that's ballpark good! The downside of that reamer holder is that in addition to floating it is also pivoting off the pressure of the single driving lever. That makes it ream a tapered hole. As a general rule, when a reamer is making dry (unlubricated) chips, it is drilling. Good video quality.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  3 роки тому +3

      No because the reamer has a pilot bushing that needs to follow the bore, if you drilled it you couldn’t keep the chamber straight in relation to the bore.
