When he says can you put your head in your hands , He is talking about when you are frustrated or aggravated with something and you put your head down into the palms of your hands !
It's pretty clear what they mean by "Can you put your hands in your head?". It means are you just going to dream your life away or are you going to make something of yourself? He later says "And now you put your head in your hands" meaning sadness that you've done nothing with your life. "Crime of the Century" is Supertramp's best album and this is a fun catchy song.
In the late 70's there was a thing called Quadraphonic which was similar to surround sound today. Supertramp crime of the century was one the few albums that were made for Quad. It was outstanding then and today the sounds, stand the test of time!
The album Breakfast in America has lots of great tracks if you want to check out some more Supertramp! This album was released in 1979, definitely an era of awesome music!
I think the idea of, "Can you put your hands in your head? Oh, no!" is about the fact that the person he's talking about is a dreamer, but he/she doesn't do anything to make his/her dreams come true. You have a dream, but can you act on it? And when the person can't act on it, "Now you put your head in your hands."
At least, that's always been my reading of the song.
This track is from the album Crime of The Century - probably one of their best.
Supertramp are like a combination of Queen and Electric Light Orchestra. Based on this track anyway
I seen them a very, very long time ago. They was an awesome live band. They really dabbled in several types of music a lot of it was because each member played a lot of different instruments.
1979 I rushed the stage at Alpine Valley with a piece of personal artwork. Got carried off by security but still hopeful the band received my gift. Hey.. I was just a dumb, starstruck teen.
Just an opinion, but the words may be another way of saying, 'pull the idea out of your mind and live your dreams'. -- 'Now you got your head in your hands, oh no'..........Dreaming without doing is just dreaming. Like poetry, lyrics can be open to interpretation, but thats the way that I take it. These people are musically ingenious.
