- I loaded up five point and shoot film cameras from the 1980s and 1990s with rolls of Kodak Gold 200 and hit the streets for a head to head comparison. The contenders of this camera vs. camera shootout are :
• Canon Sure Shot/AF35M II
• Nikon L35AF/AD
• NIKON Lite•Touch/AF600
• Yashica Auto Focus Motor
• Ricoh R1.

Scans:
Scanning for this project was provided by the Film Preservation Project. Shown in the video are uncorrected straight scans from a Noritsu scanner. Under normal circumstances a scanner operator would have made adjustments to each images, so you'd probably see even less variation in the images. For more information on negative scanning check out: www.filmpreser...
Cameras:
All five of these camera were untested thrift store finds, they had surprisingly little issues. As you can see by the images, the Yashica has got some focusing problems. Beside that, there don't seem to be any major issues. All cameras used in this video are for sale at: www.dcbryan.com...
My takeaways:
I was surprised by how similar many of the photos were, with some adjusting in Lightroom, maybe would be indistinguishable from each other. The old saying "It's not about the camera, It's about the person behind the camera" definitely holds true here.

One of the few UA-cam videos that actually shows photo comparison! Appreciate your effort for the cause!
side by side with FIVE cameras as well. #respect. I also see people make comparison videos but don't show pics side by side or pics are the same photo. I made a video comparing the olympus mju II vs other cameras, I thought no many other people showed it the way I did. Props to this dude.
Your drive by shootings raise my anxiety level to about 800iso
Haaaa
umm lol nvr drive and take pictures again
C'mon bud, let him live a little.
@@TheHoleshotking an old classmate of mine died a year ago because he drove and used his phone. he drove in to a bus that came from the other side. "luckily" he only killed himself, imagine his stupidity not only breaking his families heart forever but also other peoples families. don't. drive. and. do. anything. else.
Christopher Anderson does it
Yep stupidest thing I’ve seen recently. Could he not get someone to drive and he be a passenger taking pics??

The Ricoh R1 for me is the winner👌🏻 sharp images
sadly the lcd problem is quite notorious... i think the nikon af600 is the best of the bunch quality of image/price on ebay
Ricoh 1 and then the Canon Sure Shot. Both amazing camera.
Great little test. I own the Nikon L35AF2. Was my dads but he stopped using it years ago. Old camera but still works great. He would use it to take pictures of the family and now many years later I'm doing the same with my own family on the same camera used all them years ago.
I own that one as well. Kinda bugs me that I can’t set the iso but it’s a great cam.
This is awesome to see this type of comparison with these five cameras all using the same film. I personally have an AF600, an L35AF, and a pair of AF35M2s which are great, but now I kind of want the R1! Looking forward to more videos!
Ricoh R1 look fine ( good contrast color and sharp)
I agree, definitely a contender.
Ricoh R1 took it for me followed closely by the two Nikons. Great comparison. Thanks for the work putting it together!
That AF600, will keep an eye out for one!
I have the Nikon L35 and the Canon AF35M II and they're both a blast to shoot on. This was an absolutely awesome comparison video to watch, thank you for sharing! Keep up the great videos!!👍👍👍
This is exactly the comparison I was looking for! Thanks for sharing photo real results of different cameras in the same location. So helpful!
Overall, the Nikon AF600 is the winner in my opinion.
Thanks for the video.
While my Leica M10 digital with 35mm lens was in the repair shop, I used my Nikon L35 AF. The Nikon point & shoot was a great backup.
Great video sir. Was choosing between Canon af35m and Nikon L35AF, this helped me decide. thanks for this!
this is amazing!!!!!!!! honestly, I'm looking for a new 35mm point & shoot and was trying to find some comparisons of the Canon AF35M II vs. the Nikon L35AF/AD vs. the Yashica AF, and now I find this video and see that the camera I want is the Ricoh R1!!!!!!!! I totally forgot that Ricoh also made a camera in this "range".
AMAZING! THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU JUST MADE ME SO COMFORTABLE WITH MY DECISION.
EBAY HERE I COME, RICOH R1 COME TO DADDY.
Now I know which camera I'm going to buy. Thanks!
Glad to help!
I like the Nikon L35AF most....although there is something about Yashica in terms of tone...feels true vintage...It obviously has focus issues (?) but in general it depends what you're looking for. I don't like super sharp images personally...The Ricoh one looks similar to what you'd get with a manual 35mm camera so that's pretty impressive.
Been eyeing the AF600 for so long. Thanks for making this vid! Gonna grab one now
more point & shoot cameras vlog contents pleaseee!!!
Absolutely helpful video even years later. Thank you!
Amazing video. No one actually compares cameras with same shots like this!
Great video. Please make more of this! I’m quite surprised about the Ricoh R1 hmmm
The R1 seemed to be the sharpest and highest quality, while the L35 had the warmest feeling to the images (not color wise, just a warm clean feeling to them)
R1 was easily the strongest IMHO. If I hadn't just pulled the trigger on an Olympus XA, I would be looking to get an R1. I need to throw at least 18 rolls through that camera before I even start looking at another film camera in that size 😂
Enjoyed this one and very helpful as I'm in the lookout for a new point and shoot camera.
P.S. Hope u didn't abandon your channel and pls make more of this kind of video!
Great video! I enjoy mixing it up with point and shoots.
Love this comparison video! Very straight forward and helpful comparison and interesting documentary of your trip without unnecessary long video. Subbed and Thank you!
Great video idea. I'm sad to say (since I have the Canon on the way) that the Nikon Lite Touch is the clear winner.
dude. respect your efforts!
found this video by the link in your ebay listing. awesome video. hopefully you keep making more
Me: Oh just that video and then working. It’s just 7 min tho.
Also me: *stopping for 3 minutes after every shot to compare the details, shadow, high lights, sharpness, contrast....*
I have the Canon AF35MM and I want to add the Ricoh R1 to my collection 🖤
It just very very nice comparison, thanks for making this video.
Glad you enjoyed it - It was to make.
I have a few of these cameras that you used in your test also I have dozens of others. I've taken several of these shots that you took as well with many cameras. I'm really a Canon guy but I thought the Nikons looked the best in most of the shots.
The Yashica Auto Focus Motor has such atrocious focusing despite having “auto focus” in the name. And unfortunately I JUST picked up one for myself before watching this video lol. Appreciate the comparison! Now I know of alternatives if the Yashica is as bad as it seems.
I think the one I had might have actually been broken... for your sake at least let’s hope that was the case.
Hey! For me the same story! How is the focus on your Yashica? I ordered it today, but its not as good as i thought when i see this video..
I really like the Nikon l35 one but thought the portrait was a shame compared to the landscape shots. I thought the Yashida faired the worst/not the bed in this comparison. Really helpful video, Ty !
Good video! My canon af35ml just started having problems and none of the shops here in PDX say they can get parts to fix these old things :( After seeing this video I think I might try to snag a AF35M II as a replacement!
Awesome video. I hope you will record another similar video.
Great video. Only suggestion is maybe watch your distance on those portrait shots, so that you're over the minimum focus distance for a good sharp shot.
Love this!!!❤
love your ultimate consistency, thanks! as for me its 30mm Ricoh vs 28mm Nikon
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for :)
I did like the Canon AFM35 a lot, but overall everything but the Yashica had at least 1+ winning.
More videos like this please!
I have the 2 Nikons. Had the SureShot (used) until it broke. The Lite-Touch used to be a fave of news photogs to throw in a bag with REAL Nikon cameras..
Love these point and shoots - Great comparisons!
thanks for the video! Just what I searched for!
What a helpful video! Thanks
I like Canon btw
i swear yashica auto focus is iffy my friend owns a t4 and a t2 and its always crapping out on him and it seems to be consistent with a lot of the yashicas ives seen
Why Yashica missfocused most of the time?
Love this !
Great video!
thrift haul for point and shoot cameras pleassseeee
The Canon adds a cool coloring/underexposure that I like. The Yashica is trash. The other three are average.
Thank you for making this video! I love how you show comparisons. Very helpful. However, it seems that you may have mixed up which shot came from which camera because when you show the shots one by one and then all together the shots are not labeled consistently. More specifically I think you're mixing up the Ricoh R1 and Nikon Lite shots.
Feel free to download the full resolutions images here - goo.gl/GnzR95 They're all labeled by camera.
do you use a gopro or any clip for video recording while taking photos in the photo walk??
For some reason the picture counter of my Yashica bounced 4 pictures at a time, shot my first roll of film and I got 4 pictures out of 24. Any idea why?
Really like the idea of this but I think that theres is a mixup in the pictures taken out of the moving car. you seem to label the different from the point of taking them to the part where you show them alle 5. that is unfortunate and a bit confusing. But really like the whole setup and comparison idea.
You're welcome to look through the raw photos taken with each camera. The link is in the comments, that should clear up any confusion.
@@smokeythebirdbrain thx - i will do that. :-)
Again - great idea and a sort of no nonsense way to check out and review cameras
great video! liked and subsribed! really appreciate the effort that went into this :)
nice review! thanks
My father had canon I loved to shoot it
Going to get one nostalgic))
👏👏👍 Great Video I love it amazing places
Thanks for the videos. May I know which one is the most quiet based on your experience? For now I am considering to get AF600 or L35AF.
Clearly the Ricoh was the best. But the the two Nikons came close. Nikon L35 is awesome.
Huh... Bro can I attach Lens with Yashica Af 2?
What up with the YASHICA Auto Focus Motor? nothing works XD
Hi guys I have both Nikon L35AD2 and Canon Autoboy 2 Which one’s better? I might sell of these.
You shoot them and find out :D
yashica's autofocus be like... nope
gotta love how the camera that has auto focus as it's name literally misses focus 9/10
There must be something wrong with your Yashica. Mine shoots pretty crisp shots, yours looks like they are out of focus.
ricoh for me
Yashica autofocus was consistently not-focused :)))
what is the song?
Nice
R1
Aye I know you live in Portland where’d you buy your film at
Man Wai I think the two best places in town to buy film are Blue Moon Camera in St. John’s and Pro Photo Supply in NW.
Where did you buy the film? so cheap!
Nice vid
is the nikon l35af very loud?
The sounds of the shutters in the videos are the actual sounds from the camera. I don't think it was particularly quite.
More like Yashica Out-Of-Focus Motor ;-))
Also please don't drive and shoot at the same time, that is really stupid...
But thanks for the great comparison!
Where do you get your film from??? It’s so cheap!
It’s from the year 2018
@@smokeythebirdbraina true vintage
Ricoh F1 all the way
$3.49 for gold i want to die
Prices have fallen you can by this for $13 now 😭 it’s fine 🔥
Great idea for all to follow - shooting out of a car window while you are driving! Seriously?!
Thank you for the comparison, but please don't do that while driving
Where is this place, Ricoh is best and yashica was very poor.
cariza5 filmed in and around Portland, Oregon.
@@smokeythebirdbrain wow, you still have them in Portland with Antifa thugs over there.
Omg why the fck you taking pic while driving 💀
Daft !
first 🔥
please wash ur hands
Jesus man. Fucking focus on driving.
None of them are good...
Lol classic UA-cam comment 😂
