  • Ukrainians have long suffered from the inferiority complex imposed by the russian authorities, while russia appropriated the Ukrainian achievements in science, literature, and art. Kazimir Malevich, Ilya Repin, Mykola Gogol, Oleksandr Murashko, Dmytro Bortniansky, Igor Sikorsky, Volodymyr Khavkin, Vira Kholodna - all these 'russian' artists and scientists are united by their place of birth - Ukraine, all their achievements were #stolen.
FILM.UA presents the fifth episode of Born in Ukraine cycle, which centers on Oleksandr Murashko, the founder of the new Ukrainian painting of the 20th century.
Oleksandr Murashko was born in Kyiv, where he was raised by his grandmother, who stirred up the child's imagination and love for Ukraine with her stories about the heroic times of the Cossacks and folk wisdom. Later, he regularly referred to Ukrainian motives. Together with like-minded people, Murashko founded the Society of Kyiv Artists and later became one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts in Kyiv.
He has taken a worthy place among European artists, gained international recognition, and his works have been included in the context of the world art process while he was still alive.
