What art & culture Russia doesn't destroy, they have stolen from Ukraine. This was an excellent video, Vox. One aspect overlooked was the destruction and denial of musical treasures. At the turn of the 20th c., Ukrainian composer's works were taken from Ukraine and Ukrainians.
art and architecture are what what defines us as people, we all have a special connection with our own respective cultures and art so i appreciate the great lengths they are going to preserve it
Just hope and pray a civil war doesn't break out like it did when the US's invasion of Iraq ended. That's the only thing which worries me about Ukriane.
The mere thought of all this art and pieces of culture being destroyed and stolen in wars around the world just brings so much sickness to my stomach. I cried when Notre Dame was burning bc of an accident, but this intentional destruction fills me with rage. All the respect for those that do everything in their power to protect cultural heritage
I've never believed in the destruction of history, even if it's a statue of Hitler. In my opinion history is there for three reasons, to remember the good times, prevent the repeating of mistakes or both.
Ukraine was on my bucket list before the war. Now to find out that so much artistic heritage and beauty is being destroyed hurts, especially as an artist myself (hobbyist).
Great video. Vox also needs to cover destruction of arts and heritage by the government in times of peace, usually in the name of development or money. This happened recently in Bandung, Indonesia where govt destroyed the first Indonesian public pool made during Dutch colonial times and sold the land to real estate developers. Govt in Southeast Asia have destroyed many other historical heritage for money but it seems this kind of destruction went largely unnoticed due to it happening in the times of peace.

This stuff breaks my heart. 💔 As someone who is directly connected to art due to my mom owning a art gallery/framing Business. We have been tasked with caring for people's art, collections, sculptures, etc. And I hate the thought of people destroying creations that are worth more then any amount of money could every bring. These art creations, are not just financial assets, they represent what it means to be human, to express feeling, existing, and you just cannot replace that, in a sense I wish it could be immortal and live on forever in future generations. Wether it be architecture, art, sculptures, movies, play, music, dance, any form of expression, experiences. I wish we could always be able to have the ability to share it and have it impact people, children, their children. It's just such a intangible valuable aspect of life and I hate seeing it be destroyed and lost to time or something else like war...
Not unimaginable to move money we did it in colonial times to keep it from falling in the hands of the English before ww1 its only been recovered last year from Swiss vault along with a 2001 recovery by a Zulu family thst was living in the same area for more than 100 years has confirmed to have dug up "at least 4 000 Kruger pounds", three kilometres from the farm of JJ Scholtz, where a statue of President Paul Kruger was found. Analysis of yhose coins apparently show that they were minted in 1889.
The first time I heard of cultural heritage protection was in the ARMA 3 art of war DLC. Video games can be educational, too. Also not only russians are a threat to works of art, unscrupulous art dealers can use the chaos of war to steal art. Not sure that would constitute a warcrime, though.
The russian government has been accusing ukraine of manipulating and oppressing russian minorities, language, culture and sovereignty (especially on state-run media) and yet look at what they're desperately trying to do in this needless invasion. They could be erasing the uniqueness and the essence of ukrainian cultural identity to better assimilate them. Another tragic blunder of geopolitics. Слава Україні!

@@josephcrushingbort9649 There are translations online. I've read it.
It's so tragic that so much beauty and history can be destroyed in seconds. 💔
I'm from Ukraine, thank you so much for your videos❤️
art and architecture are what what defines us as people, we all have a special connection with our own respective cultures and art so i appreciate the great lengths they are going to preserve it
I hope that Ukraine wins that moral shi_show of a war and that the art survives.
I hope Ukraine loses, it's time for westerners to have a taste of their own medicine
truly a devastating reality for Ukraine :C thanks for these informational videos though! 😊

Why does art matter? Because it represents who we are. Why is destroying art a war crime? Because it attacks the very fabric of our being.
Nah it's just stuff bro.
@@speedfastman Art is not just “stuff”. It is incredibly precious culturally speaking
@@giuliab8484 Yeah but I don't value culture.
@@speedfastman That doesn’t mean that other don’t value culture
@@giuliab8484 If I think culture doesn't matter I obviously think others shouldn't either. 🙄
Oh, so sad and also so heroic..thank you......

Thank you for including Crimea in the map of Ukraine
The production value and general importance of this videos is paramount to everyone. Keep up the good informative work Vox!
Art, is always still there. Pricelessness is at risk. That is real war.
You can lose everything in war, but life is more priceless.
Cut Russia off from the world economy forever
Reactionary and thoughtless.
why?
Art and museums should be protected.. these are properties of humanity..
I would honestly love to visit Ukraine and would suggest everyone to do so after the war ends.
If and when. :/
I just hope there will be something to see
Just hope and pray a civil war doesn't break out like it did when the US's invasion of Iraq ended. That's the only thing which worries me about Ukriane.
@@DanielDaniel-mw3wk All wars end sooner or later
7:26 this picture will go down in history.
Glad to see more people bringing up this topic, hopefully it will end soon
I've never believed in the destruction of history, even if it's a statue of Hitler. In my opinion history is there for three reasons, to remember the good times, prevent the repeating of mistakes or both.
My Granduncle helped salvage the Prado's Museum Collection during the Spanish Civil War.
Stay Strong Ukraine 🇺🇦
Thank you for making videos about Ukraine during the war. That gives a lot of support
Love with Ukraine!
yeah I was thinking about all the art and history lost due to this war, hope some can still be save
Brilliant work Vox team!!! Thank you to all of you!!!
This makes me weep. Thanks for putting yourselves on the line to protect our humanity.
Excellent report, thank you. I stand-like a statue- for Ukraine. 🙏🏼

cultural and historic significance is evaluated in hindsight. our opinions are insignificant in the scheme of life.
I've been to exhibits from Ancient Egypt to Andy Warhol, each experience uniquely thought provoking. criticism is the lowest form of creativity.

It's heart broken that histories are forgotten in our time ⏲️ 💔 😢
Important, valuable, and fascinating. Thank you.
Wow, this makes me want to visit Ukraine one day, after this horrific war and when the intruders are pushed back to where they belong.
As an artist, that is truly beautiful, and I’m happy such people exist
I can see this video being played 30 years later in a middle school art history class
це чудово, дякую за цей матеріал! :)
Дякую
This is terrifying. I want to come back to Ukraine to help rebuild it as soon as the war ends
A heartbreaking but incredibly valuable video. Barbaric confirmation of multiple crimes against humanity and human culture. Putin can destroy physical traces, but art along with independence & humanity, will always survive in the hearts and minds of Ukrainians.
For the past few months, as days go by, i have been losing hope in humanity.
Thank you! As we see more and more evidence of basic savagery Russian soldiers bring with them it becomes more evident that our culture elevated us to this position as an object of their jealousy and so we must preserve it.
Hitler also tried to destroy art 🖼
Hilarious when considering that he himself wanted to be an Artist 🤣...
Good for her and all of the Ukrainian people. They have everything to be proud of and wanting to pass onto to future generations.
Thanks for making great videos! This was so interesting
“Special Military Action” really needs to have an answer to it. Let’s have a strong “Special Economic Action” against the Russian Federation.
For a second I read "How Ukrainians are saving art during the war" as "How *Turtles* are saving art during the war"
Thank you for your work, Vox!
Thank you for this video!
What we can learn is , Every museum needs a tiny bunker for historical artifacts to be stored
Just curious if Ukrainian banks closer to the conflict zones are emptying their vaults to move the money/valuables elsewhere?
Just wait! Vox will show a video of the routes they take.
It's all heart breaking
this gave me chills I dont know why.
It's so horrific the way one group of humans try to utterly erase another at any cost.
The first time I heard of cultural heritage protection was in the ARMA 3 art of war DLC. Video games can be educational, too. Also not only russians are a threat to works of art, unscrupulous art dealers can use the chaos of war to steal art. Not sure that would constitute a warcrime, though.
I wish there could be peace in the world; all countries would come together and make the world a better place.
Think about the library of Alexandria

It’s heartbreaking to learn so much history and culture gets lost because of these pointless wars.

You should do an episode on how Louvre and Hermitage miraculously saved its artworks. Especially Mona Lisa...
That was beautiful. Thank you Vox as always~
