    I love the information but please cut out the portion where the actor is engaged in trying to break a speed record for signing himself.

      We have always intended Catholic Central and its sister program Lente Catolico to help people outside of the Church (and those in the Church who may not have had a lot of catechesis) understand our faith. We try to present it in such a way that is informative and entertaining. The humor was directed at the mistaken assumption that quantity of prayers or rubrics is as important as quality. We hoped to convey that when the sign of the cross becomes just a physical action unaccompanied by an interior action of the spirit (as is certainly the case here with Nick) it's far from meaningful prayerfulness. We felt that a "race against time" was the best way to make the point. Sorry it doesn't work for you, and no irreverence intended. Thanks for joining us, we always appreciate our viewers' input.

    Your supposed to put your left hand over your heart while the right crosses you.

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  7 місяців тому

      The traditional Catholic practice involves using the right hand to make the sign of the cross. This gesture symbolizes our faith in the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. While some individuals may choose to accompany the sign of the cross with other gestures, such as placing the left hand over the heart, there isn't a strict requirement in Catholic doctrine regarding the placement of the hands during this gesture. What matters most is the sincerity and reverence with which the sign of the cross is made, as it serves as a reminder of our faith and our connection to God.

    What is the proper way in making the sign of the cross

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  2 місяці тому

      Traditionally, as we say in the video, Latin Rite (or Roman) Catholics generally start at the forehead ("In the name of the Father") and then transit down to their chest ("and of the Son") and then make a lateral gesture from their left shoulder to their right shoulder ("and of the Holy Spirit, amen.). Their are some variations that we show in the video, but this is the most common way that Roman Catholics do the sign of the Cross.

      @@CatholicCentralVideos do some also sign from right to left instead of left to right?

      @@Tom_McMurtry Yes, we explain that in the episode.

    Should your finger touch the belly and not the heart in making the sign of the cross? I heard from friends that we should reach our finger to the belly for the " and of the son" is this right because I don't reach my belly but the middle chest

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  2 місяці тому

      Whatever is comfortable for you. Some like to make the grand gesture of going from the forehead to their belly while others will do the more compact head to chest, we don't think neither is incorrect. The mechanics of this ritual are really less important than the statement. The Sign of the Cross is a sign of our Catholic identity, when we say "Amen" we are saying that we truly believe that what we are about to do or say is "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

    Why is the cross upside down though?

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  9 місяців тому +1

      We do not think the cross is upside down.

    • @ecampos325
      @ecampos325 9 місяців тому +1

      Not trying to be disrespectful I genuinely have always wondered why the cross is inverted when people do this because it literally goes from forehead to chest shoulder to shoulder which is a inverted cross like how Peter was crucified because he said he wasn't worthy to be crucified the same way as Christ was.

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  9 місяців тому +5

      No disrespect taken. We think that most people do the Sign of the Cross so quickly that it can, at times, seem to be as if they are tracing it upside down. But, when done correctly, it should be forehead to lower chest, shoulder to shoulder. This would give you the proper, upright cross.

    Por que ustedes solo dicen "en el nombre del padre del hijo y del espíritu santo amén."? No dicen completo o será que solo es en México qué se dice "por la señal de la santa cruz de nuestros enemigos libranos señor Dios nuestro en el nombre del padre del hijo y del espíritu santo amén"? Queria aprender a decirlo en inglés pero no eh visto resultados así jaja al parecer no lo dicen como acá

      Hay varias maneras de hacer la señal de la cruz y en el mundo angloparlante solemos omitir la parte que mencionas. Como sucede con todo lo relacionado con nuestra fe, tiene más que ver con la intención que con las palabras que se dicen.
