This film made incredible strides in macro-photography that are still used by documentary makers today.
Story aside, this is ground-breaking cinematography.

Honestly imagine if ants were just 0.5 feet tall, you think humans would still be the dominant species?
yes
Yep😊
Yes
People are scared of spiders when there small idk if they would be able to mentally handle this
if the population remains the same, no
Ah, such a timeless plot, "you're spared as long as you don't contradict us".
Back in the day women were only in movies to be rescued, or to cause problems.
Even
@@VikingTeddyNowadays it's the opposite to show women heros they make the male characters incompetent and butt of the joke. So that's something.
@@Sumirevins Facts, Hollywood thinks two wrongs make a right.
I saw this as a kid and began a lifelong fear/hatred for ants. People were freaked out by ants back then. Heck, MacGyver even had a random episode where he had to stop a massive horde of ants!
There was an old black and white movie with i believe Charlton Heston that freaked me out. They devoured people in seconds.
The MacGyver episode was based on a short story "Leiningen Versus the Ants". I read it years ago in high school. Scary stuff.
I vaguely remember watching that episode! I recall that he was using a flamethrower at one point while standing atop a high wall.
The movie I saw back then as a kid that scared the bejeezus out of me was "The Food of The Gods" about giant rats. It had giant wasps too.
I didn't learn until later that it was based on an H.G. Wells story.
It was one of my favourite movies when I was young. And of course I was and still am rooting for the ants.
"Because if course it does" 😂😂 great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching this so that we didn't have to. It's standing out to me more and more that anti-plot armour and stupid decisions tend to kill characters in movies like this far more than the actual creatures do. The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies were almost purely that.
@@mr.sharktooth Am I wrong, though?
Tremors is a great movie because all the characters make reasonable decisions and are mostly killed because the underground monsters are formidable opponents.
@@planguy9575 Wow, thanks for telling me! Do the ... sequels hold up?
@@MisterEvvvSymphoenix I think the second one is good, but after that it gets really debatable. I personally don't find them to stop being fun, but the later entries become very direct to DVD in quality.
I don't know who runs this channel but please NEVER STOP!! Your humour is the only reason I watch. I don't bother with any other recap channel as they are so, so boring compared to yours. The ability to make someone laugh is a gift indeed and I look forward to every recap with great anticipation. Thank you again!

'"The ants send...a small dot within a circle. James is baffled by the message..."titties"...because he's a scientist, and never seen any..." LMFAO
This was a fascinating movie. It was caused by the sun and the aunts are the species that are changed. The aunts are testing out the humans and they develop tactics to take over the world.
And as I just noticed we have an ant 🐜 problem. 😆 LOL

If the pillars were destroyed the day before, how could they heat up the lab again the next day?
True!
Rebuilt over night? That's how I understood it..
I think it was simply the deactivation of the Air Conditioning. No AC means during the day temperatures will rise dramatically, even without the pillars.
In every single one of these videos, the guy somehow manages to slip in the funniest jokes and puns.
5:33 "And she lays a yellow egg, and thus; the Simpsons were born." This fucking killed me LMAO
You're the only recap channel that isn't narrated by AI voice.
5:35: *"... And thus, the Simpsons were born"*
9:54: *"as it leaves, it whispers back 'that ass, though'"*
13:59: *"show us the titties! Show us Dat ass!"* (oh my god those ants got no chill & are freakin'thirsty; I lost it right there with these three 😂)
But seriously though. What made the ants evolve like that? Was it because of that green belly ant? Did the government made that green ant? Many questions left unanswered
JUST NUKE THE TOWN BRO?!!
Great idea 😃
Who says that the nuke wouldn't just make the ants even more powerful?
You can’t just nuke a place you need to get permission from every nearby and the presidents in whatever peace guild you are in like Asia Asean and others, the permission is for that the other countries will not be affected by the nuclear blast
Wouldn’t the ants still live ? I get nukes leave a crater but ants dig pretty deep too so? Two nukes?
Nuke for an ant hive? Did you maybe think to try burning them first?
they wouldnt need that, since theres TRILLIONS of them iirc. Theres like 100K in each hive.
Literally the most ridiculous movie I've seen you do. Props for making it through the whole thing
That movie was so genius..
- At the beginning they had easily knocked down the pillars. Then they forgot it how to and get cooked by the pillars.
- After launching a 9/11 against the pillars, then a chemical attack to eliminate them, they finally said "square" to start a friendly conversation 🤪
- Why trying to kill the queen alone with a gas bottle when you have the US Air Force who is always there if hostile entities need to be bombed to 💩?🤷♂
So 1.. They couldn't go outside because they are literally outnumbered million to 1
2 Making an attempt is better than doing nothing at all.
3 So you expect him to message the military about an ant problem ? No one but them knows of their intelligent behavior.
@@IloveJellow
1. At 2:16 it seems they simply shoot off the top of the pillars from a distance, they not necessarily went out.
2. Can be said, but it's still ridiculous how they did it. They applied the classic wild western tactic: "shoot first, ask later" 🙃
3. It was a bit satiric, but after some deaths authorities need to investigate and realize what's going on. At that point James is the only one who could report it, but instead he launches a suicide attack with low chances for success.
At the beginning they had no idea that the ants are that smart. They still perceived them as stupid bugs, and knocked down the pillars to see what they will do.
After knocking down the pillars and having their base damaged from outside, they released chemicals for defense against whatever was attacking them.
They said "square", because that is a super simple message, and it might help initiate communication. It does not have to be "a friendly conversation", enemies during war will still negotiate.
Their power was fried by the ants, they could not use the radio, and therefore, no way to get the Air Force to bomb the ants. Besides, the bombing would probably take the humans out too, and why would they want to die too?
04:25 "She got that thicc p-p-plot armor"

I'm gonna tell my kids this is a spinoff of Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
9:58 bro aint tryna say square, he tryna say square up homie
That's definitely real footage of a praying mantis getting electrocuted
This is a fantastic movie, and criminally underrated.
I think it's very dumb. The queen isn't even an ant. Half of the species of ants don't live in the USA. And the sheer number of insects killed in this movie is pointless.
You really made a simpsons joke without saying "I for one welcome our new ant overlords"?...
Saul Bass was multi-talented, directing this film, plus winning an Academy Award for a short film, Why Man Creates. In 1983, he worked with Star Wars special effects wizard, George Mather, to produce and direct the short film, Quest, from a short story by Ray Bradbury. I regret missing the party after the completion of Quest; even Mr. Bradbury was there.

Remember watching a video about ants. A woman had fallen into a fire ant bed. They rushed her to the hospital. She was telling the nurses that she was being attack by ants. The nurses brush it off. As if she was just remembering falling in the fire ant bed. A member her family decided to pull the covers off her. To bed shocked as she was covered in fire ants.
