I like how he made a room full of people who probably had never heard of General John Pope laugh at General John Pope, as it should be.
Pope was probably the most brick headed general in the Union army. Burnside may have done Fredericksburg but at least he had a nice personality and even after being disgraced he was always asking the War Department if he could help ( man was even the first president of the NRA, and sort of had a redemption arc where he actually beat Longstreet in Georgia) Pope on the other hand was incompetent and arrogant.
I saw this song live in Columbus, OH and then forgot what it was called. Years later I couldn't find the setlist and didn't think I would ever figure out the civil war song he played at that concert. Here I am, watching GY!BE videos on youtube and what is recommended? This song. Fucking youtube, you did it again, you glorious bastard
I love how he just casually throws his leg out. Like, hoop there it goes! On beat and everything! He is one adorable talented man.
+thebardfromspace I dig that, too -- seems his flying leg is like a sort of punctuation mark that just inserts itself sometimes without his conscious thought, just "bing" -- it goes right....... there.
One of the very few who will tackle the Galena verse, and, moreover. do it PERFECTLY!
I was surprised to hear it, and more so happy to hear it done so perfectly
Too bad he skipped Wooly-Horse and others. 🤷🏻♂️
Best mandolin player in the world: Mr. Chris Thile.
He's not of this world. He's from another planet. What a musician.
Eureka! is the second song he touches on from the "not all who wonder are lost" album. Thanks so much for posting this
Which is the other? I love that album so much.
Saw it in Toronto at Koerner Hall. He was awesome. Wow.
what a good travelling song!
Awesome American music
Snaps!
The worst of it is, he’s naturally left handed. If I tried that, it would sound like I was playing with my feet.
WHAT????? He's playing "the other way"???? Dayummmm!!!!
Jordan is also hard to travel

Little "Eureka" at the end
Love how offended the snowflake was around 4:10-4:11 when he sings "yes massuh they fight like the devil." LOVE IT
Such a great jam, and the artist here did it real justice.
One day, with any luck, the people of this nation will throw off their yoke and the south will rise again!
Well, being in Portland, OR, he was doubtless mindful that this is a progressive liberal bastion. And no, the south isn't going anywhere anytime soon (unless Texas and Florida vote to secede... good riddance!) All the Red states TAKE more from the Federal government than they provide to the GDP ...
@@Stiglr Its too bad Israel takes more than all of them combined
This song was written by the Confederate troops the make fun of the Union...
very sad that it has to be so fun to listen to :'(
But the solo at the end of the song is AMAZING!!!
:D
Weeb Slaughterer why is it sad. Technically the south didnt secede for too many differences as the US did to Britain.
We may have not had the moral high ground, but our music was way better than anything the North produced during the war.
If you still haven’t gotten over a war fought 150 years ago....don’t listen to most American music. The hated Irish, Scots, and Brits, remember that war, influenced most of our music.
Written in 1863 by John Reuben Thompson, Editor of The Southern Literary Messenger, a Southern periodical published from 1834-1864. Cool song with intricate lyrics.
20 % less tempo..maybe 30..so I can understand..yer werds sir..but hey..very entertaining.
