I love her slow tempo , the singing in her pianissimo expressed in the most sweet way, you can really enjoy so many details and dynamics that in other interpreters they are not audible.
3:36 honestly the best transition to that section I've ever heard. That first b-flat wasn't given a hint of an accent or emphasized like how most pianists play it, instead, she played, what sounds like, a diminuendo from pianissimo. Wow. In terms of musicality, this is one of the best recordings I've ever heard ngl
I'll never listen to 7:34 to 8:03 the same way again. She gives the section time to breathe and flow, and gives every chord time to shine. In other (but also noteworthy) interpretations, it's usually overlooked or sped up, that part. Her phrasing is ethereal.
I agree with you 100%...! Her next big step is in learning... when to breathe. The control of the breath means being able to close and/or open the entire aura with the composers intensions. Highly intuitive lesson. Intuition and prayer and then self-evaluation are always necessary. Don't you think?
Her interpretation is so natural. Every tone sounds like it should be from the first. And the most brilliant thing of her play is never boring. Emotions flows like tons of light and it's really fun!
Incredible attention to details. I love how she waited before transitioning to coda at 9:34. Lush rubatos. Very bold and mature rendition. But also the piano is SUPER fine tuned and the acoustics of the venue is incredible.
My favorite Chopin interpreter is Kate Liu. Never too fast, never too slow, never out of touch - literally, and in my inner response to her expressions. Bravo 😍
Hey my Kate play s here grand piano 🎹 as the queen of the piano 🎹 and the show of it of her face and the playing of her piano and the beautiful sound of the piano Kate I love you so much and the piano 🎹 ❤

When Kate Kate Liu plays Chopin, the more you listen, the more you understand. And just when you think you’re about to solve the mystery, things become even more mysterious. 👩🏻🎹👩🏻

I have listened to so many performances of this Ballad in my life, and each performance is always unique. Whoever plays it. What Kate presents to us here is extremely lived through and in an incredibly beautiful balance. She shows us Chopin's heart and doesn't use it by turning it into her own show. She is a pure musical soul who enriches us with her beautiful performances. Thank you Kate! From Austria,Paul

The tempo was well-chosen; given Chopin specialised in packing the emotions of a lifetime into miniature forms, a slower-than-usual tempo allows us to better appreciate the monumental nature of the work, for longer.
I find it crazy she didn’t win the competition. Clear audience favor as well as a few judges. Unfortunately, the judges were more concerned with a few minor mistakes than musicianship
Totally agree! Beyond that, she had 3rd place and that's is worth it, but in my opinion, she should have won first place, though Seong-Jin Cho (1st price) is brilliant too.
I would think she might need some more weight to be able to pull Chopin's ballads ! But what producing here -Ballad 1- testifies she is strong enough! I surrender to Kate !! Kate knows what she is expected at this level of masterpiece and she meets the demand. You are up there with other topnotchers! Congratulations!
The best interpretation of Ballad No.1. For me Kate Liu is the only pianist who ever understood Chopin. Her interpretation is pure, natural. She's putting away all the spiderwebs from the interpretation of other pianists and shows us what Chopin wanted to express in his music.
