It's raining outside, I am watching the raindrops flow down my windows, everything's grey, there is no one outside because of the virus-even the seagulls are in hiding-haven't seen anyone I love for weeks but Kate's soul is shining so beautifully that I still have hope.
I already have six recordings of this concerto. And, my hard drive is getting full and I have to be very choosy before adding another one. But, I have to have this. Oh, well. I will get a bigger drive. I will definitely need more space to look for and add Kate Liu's playing of other pieces.
This is not a performance. This is a revelation.
We can understand music hobbyist's emotion.

I listen to Chopin before sleep almost every night. Thanks to online media, I have listened to masters like Zimmerman, Martha Argerich, Yundi, and Lang Lang.. Kate’s performance and interpretation in this video certainly puts her among the top. It’s such a pleasure to listen. Thanks for the years of real hard work to give us such listening pleasure.

Este Concierto, compuesto por Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin en su temprana juventud, fue mi favorito en mi adolescencia. Qué conmovedor recuerdo de aquella lejana época gracias a la bellísima interpretación de Kate Liu.
Wow. In Tokyo. This is so special! The childlike quality that Kate mentions is present in this piece's 3rd movement (I believe) gives it a light fresh harmonic melody that I absolutely love. It's so far away from the darkness you hear in some other pieces, and that's why I had a really spiritual experience when Kate finished this piece in the 17th Chopin competition. I'm hoping that she'll play this one for her entire career, and I'm looking forward to the magic it will bring when she plays it 20 or 30 years from now. Thanks, Kate for your dedication that brings so much joy as we come along for the ride. :-)

Rubato from 18:48 is very good. Performance is tightened and is startled.
Kate is my favorite pianist.
I think the orchestra here is better than the one in the Chopin competition, but the sound balance just isn't as good. You can hear some part of it quite well, but others - not as much. e.g. 21:18, you can't hear the strings as well as you should, missing a major part of the concerto.
And, I think Kate is better in some parts here, compared to the Chopin competition, but she also feels less "in the zone" in other parts.
e.g. 21:06, 27:04, or how she feels "heavier" in 09:14 than in the competition version.
I do love this video though - especially because I can hear her thoughts about the concerto though - it really adds to the experience, and I've never heard her remarks before, I can begin to imagine what she feels inside as she plays it..
Wonder what inspired Chopin to compose this piece? Surely not of this world!

This video contains only a frustratingly brief excerpt from the closing moments of the 2nd Movement. Movements 1 and 3 are complete.
It would be great to have the complete performance on UA-cam, especially one without the alarm 🚨 going off in the third movement.

I am hoping someone with access to the complete concerto will post it on UA-cam. I am anxious to hear the entire piece as I think her performance is extraordinarily beautiful.

쇼콩 때 야마하를 선택했던데 그 이유가 여기서 드러나네요... 스타인웨이보다 야마하가 케이트의 음색과는 궁합이 더 잘 맞는 듯 합니다. 그래도 연주는 참 좋네요

It's a little out of control in the end, but she's still a wonderful pianist.
I wonder if as you really do get older, you tend to play faster. She played this way faster than the competition, which I'm not saying is bad, but I've noticed a pattern with famous older pianists like argerich, Horowitz, where they play it faster than usual. Even my piano teacher wants me to play most of my pieces faster than I want them to be, and I'm only in my early 20's. I guess the older you get, the more you understand the piece as an entirety, rather than just trying to make it sound beautiful which is what I'm doing now.
I’ve honestly heard the opposite, it’s the young people that want to go fast.... As you mature you start “hearing” the music more you allow yourself to take more time with it. I guess both explanations make sense, but in the end I think it’s just down to the individual.
