Thank you for this! The last tutorial I watched said slip both stitches knit wise then purl through the front, it turned out really untidy. This is much better!
Maybe I’m just getting old, but it’s difficult to see what she’s doing with the camera zoomed so far out. Wish Purl Soho would do close-ups. Their video tutorials are amazing, and I’d like to get more out of them without straining to see.

I'm new to knitting. What's the purpose of transferring the knits from the left to right needle and then transferring them back to the left again? Thanks!
Great question! Transferring the stitches back and forth helps to orient the stitch in the proper direction to set up the decrease for success. Let us know if you have more! Happy knitting!
Hi Reesa, yes! All of the stitches on the knit side of our swatch are knit stitches. You may encounter patterns though that incorporate these decrease stitches within more complicated stitch patterns!
Laura purls the first two stitches to create a stockinette border along the edges of the swatch, and it's not related to the actual technique.Your understanding of the two decrease options totally works for this tutorial! Thanks for writing in and happy knitting!
It's definitely a point of preference, but we like the look of the slipped purl stitch as it doesn't add any additional twist or bulk to the decrease. You may want to try both and see which you prefer!
I was just thinking about this too! As a first time knitter it was confusing to see other videos doing SSP with a slip knit first. Definitely would have liked some warning about that.
For this demonstration we are only doing decreases on the purl side - so if you're looking to create the same shape, you'll simply knit all your stitches on the knit side. Happy knitting!

Sometimes if your purls are too tight, you can try to first slip them purl-wise from your holding needle to your working needle (in this video, the left needle to the right needle) then place them back on your holding needle. Sometimes slipping them back and forth can loosen them up just enough to manage the decrease. We hope this helps! Let us know if you run into more issues!

I agree. Camera too far away and needles and yarn WAY TO SMALL for a tutorial.
