Thank you so much for this video. I'm just a beginner so this can all get confusing when I look at a video that tells me to do the SSP one way then another says to do it another way and yet another doing it a different way... and no channel wants to explain the difference or the "correct" way. It's actually a common problem I'm discovering in the knitting tutorial world: Give three quarters of the information and leave the rest to be researched by the learner. You are quite literally the only person I have seen thoroughly explain not just the single technique, but comparing it to other techniques, giving a visual aid and actually SAYING what the standard version is and what the easier version is.
I'll definitely be coming back here for more when I need it. You're an excellent teacher, thank you!!

Thank you so much for this alternative method! Since switching to continental, I've used Norwegian purling because it's less fussy for me, but was stumped how to approach SSP without losing my mind.

That makes the SSP so much easier! You're doing the same thing, just putting those stitches on the left needle to knit through the back loop like a "normally" mounted purl. Thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing. I have not done any really advanced knitted patterns or one that has called for that particular stitch yet but I certainly appreciate your taking the time to show the variations in execution. Maybe the next pattern I choose will have that stitch and I'll be ready... : ))

seeing a standard SSP done correctly, vs an 'easy' SSP... i think i'll stick with the former - less twisting of hands, needles. still, i appreciate you taking the time to show the technique!
I agree, I also use the standard method. It is my preferred. But, for many people the standard method is difficult or impossible for them to grasp. And therefore they slip the two stitches correctly, but then purl them through the front, resulting in a twisted decrease stitch. This video is geared towards those people. For them, it is easier to perform. In all of my teaching students, I think the SSP is the most difficult of the basic knitting stitches for people to "get". I like this much better that the traditional method! I just happen to be working on a project that uses SSP and I really dislike working them. I’ll be using this method from now on!

I personally think the middle decrease looked the best.
I do too. But, there are many people who have difficulties understanding or performing the traditional SSP, therefore, the easy SSP. I have taught hundreds of people to knit and I think the SSP is one of the hardest basic knitting stitches for knitters to grasp. In fact, most of the "experienced" knitters I have taught, work it incorrectly to begin with, and have twisted decreases in their work. Thanks for the comment and happy knitting.
I agree. I do not think they look the same. The one in the middle of the fabric looks better.
I think that some people don't "Like", or "Subscribe" because of how inteusive that Google & UA-cam are with peoples' info. They make money by stealing & selling one's info. Maybe?💗

I figured out that an even simpler way to do the first step is to just change the order of the two stitches as if you were going to do a 1-1 left cross. No need to slip them as if to knit onto the right-hand needle and then put them back onto the left-hand needle. Then purl the two stitches together normally (not through the back loops).
This also works for an ssk, though I don’t know that it makes it any simpler. Switch the order of the two stitches as if to make left cross, then knit together normally. I saw your video where you try to make ssk’s “tidier.” Would my method help in that regard?

Thank you for your help. I am fascinated with your European style f knitting. Does it take long to learn your style of knitting. I've seen people knitting thie way and it is much faster than the way I knit in Australia.
It takes some time to train your fingers to do it. But it is worth learning. Some people can do it in a few weeks, others make take a few months.

These do not twist the stitches.
If you want to twist the stitches, purl through the back loops without reorienting the stitches first.

Hi, Suzanne. Thank you for the tip. I'm curious: You often diagnose why something goes wrong with a knitting technique, and I wonder if you have any insight as to why SSPs tend to look neater than SSKs.
Great comment. I have another video on the SSK which show why it is always a little bigger than a K2tog. I will link that here and also to the SSP video itself. It has to do with the untwisting of the yarn when the stitches are moved from the left needle to the right. When you do an SSK, they untwist and then by working through the back, you untwist them a little more. When working the SSP, they untwist a little when moving from the left to the right, but when you purl them through the back loop, you re-twist them, so they are tight again. This is why an SSP always looks nicer than an SSK. But, the easy SSP purls them through the front, and therefore also contributes to the untwisting. Notice that the easy SSP looks more like the SSK. Both a little bigger than a K2tog. Thank you for watching and commenting.

The middle did look better, but it seems like the very two last easy SSP looks pretty good! I was trying to picture if the traditional and the new way are exactly the same stitch except you make that twist onto the left needle (easier) instead of making the twist with the right needle through the back loop ( way harder)? So it's same orientation/ordering/ layering but using different needle to access the loops at an easier angle? If I'm understanding it correctly, it should look exactly the same but easier to do?

Hi thanks for the videos.😁 I had a question about twisted stitche knitting. say I had a basic sweater pattern and wanted to use a twisted stitch pattern would I need to add stitches to the pattern. Or do you just knit the pattern as is.
If the pattern does not call for twisted stitches, but you do use twisted stitches, yes you would have to compensate. You would need to swatch with and without the twisted stitches, then compare the width of each swatch. Google Suzanne Bryan Stitch Equivalency for more videos on this topic.
