Her loyalty and faith is a testament of the strength one gains from knowing the love of God. St. Elisabeth of France was dauntless. I read somewhere that as the senior in rank among the people scheduled to be guillotined with her, she gave all of them comfort and led them in prayer while waiting for their hour of death. She definitely is a child of God.
Thank you for this video. This lady is the forgotten royal victim of the revolution. You always hear of the King, the Queen but not the King's young loyal sister who also lost her head. She was brave, loyal and modest. Poor lady. She really was a martyr who had principals and lived by them. RIP Elisabeth.
Thank you! Though I usually avoid learning about this troubling period of history, I'm glad to have learned from you about the faithful and brave Elizabeth.
You must read her biography by Monique de Huertas; the best one. Is in French, I do not thing that there is an English translation of this wonderful book “Madame Élisabeth la soeur martyre du Roi Louis XVI”
The story of the son of Louis and Marie Antoinette is very sad. He was imprisoned away from his sister and eventually died from neglect and starvation, as the revolutionaries realised that executing a child would cause an international scandal. His sister survived to an old age, living to see the monarchy restored.
What a sad, tragic life story! I agree with her recognition by the Church. An outstanding woman. Her story has reminded me the tragedy of the Romanovs in Russia...
Shocking. Absolutely shocking. I read law & politics at university and the French Revolutions, from 1789, and so on throughout the 19th century, were required reading but in all those books where the Terror and Terror that followed the restoration were described in detail yet they never quite captured the inhumane cruelty done to those who had no real part in the causes of the Revolution other than they were faithful to their family and tried their best to protect & support those whom they loved. You tell the simple truth which is enough to immediately sympathise with an innocent who by accident of birth alone was condemned and publicly slaughtered in the most degrading way. Shocking. Absolutely shocking. Thank you for speaking up about a woman who otherwise would be unknown to us all who are not academics of French History; if not for you she would be as lost a character of history as all those other unfortunates whose bones share her resting place.
Honestly, her story isn't even the worst. On October 9, I am releasing a video about Madame de Lamballe. Her demise is horrendous. If you're interested be sure to return at that time... Thank you for watching and commenting.

Excellent video. Elisabeth had her faults (few, admittedly), but she was intensely loyal and certainly the last friend Marie Antoinette had. I've often wondered: was Elisabeth's final request granted (to cover her)? I always hear that those were her last words, but not whether they covered her. And poor Marie Therese, separated from her father, brother, mother, and finally her beloved aunt. Tragic, tragic, tragic. Have you thought of doing a video on the scandal of the Diamond Necklace? @@cecillebarone9252 There were many reason why the poor were starving in France. Farming was terrible during "The Little Ice age" the poor refused to incorperate potatoes into their diet and wanted to eat wheat which was difficult to farm at the time. Also King Louis spending was taxing the poor in an unbalanced way. King Louis was helping the Americans in their war. The spending was out of control. Here in the US we have of percentage of earned income that is taxed. The 1% who earn 540k or more get taxed 20% of their income. Those who are the top 10-25% 87k to 152k also are taxed 20% of their shared income. We in the US have a tax system in place. What happened in France over 200 years ago was horrific.
