I know that the fact that they are middle schoolers really throws off people who arent familliar with life in the streets of tokyo during the 80s, and 90s but long story short it really do be like that. Its called Bokuzoku. its now labeled as a pseudo yakuza gang(and its practically dead), since at its height 30% of all yakuza recruits came from Bokuzoku. Think the middle school and highschool version of Hells angels. Theres a great documentary on them by vice back when it didnt suck. The author was a member of Bokuzoku as a kid, in a gang called black emperor. most of Tomans design came from them. If anything the series kinda downplays how brutal these kids were in the 90s, even in middle school. You literally couldnt walk outside alone or unarmed if you were bokuzoku, because if another gang catched you they would kidnap you. it happened to the brother of the captain of a gang called spectre. they kidnapped him, tied his leg to a motorcicle and they dragged him until he died. kids. they were actually doing things like that. sometimes real live is more unbelievable than fiction. Edit: its not 100% confirmed ken waiku the mangaka, was part of Black emperor, theres some evidence but no defitive proof, so take it with a grain of salt
This was a rollercoaster of emotions man, the way these episodes had me smiling goofily to balling my eyes out and literally getting so hyped up about literal kids beating each other up was insane. @@Kramer_. the censored Version cuts away each time the Tokyo manji symbol is showed. It honestly made the show near unwatchable to me when I seen a comparison
Never have I agreed more with a statement than when he talked about Takemicchy especially about the "i need to save everyone" then a minor inconvenience happen and he's like "shit I can't do anything" and then he cries again but then gets a second wind because he remembered shit. But hey, he's still a good character
Most "sound only" fight scenes happen because of the censorship, as the Toman uniform has buddhist swastikas, and they were censored when Tokyo Revengers came to the West.
The whole "cry baby" aspect of Takemitchy is his strongest character trait, imo. He isn't a badass protagonist, he's a weak man filled with self-doubt after being beaten to shit by Kiyomasa. Which is why he's so spineless as an adult. So when he goes back in time and realizes he has a chance to grow, he does just that, spending the first 15 or so episodes slowly growing and being less of a bitch boy. Until he becomes someone Toman can actually rely on. And his nature to cry so much is actually something good. Everyone he's surrounded by is a hardened delinquent who don't give much thoughts to emotions. That's why Takemitchy is so vital to Toman, as much as Mikey and Drakken.
The time traveling’s like Ocarina of Time where when he does travel it’s a set period of time and the adult time line is much darker. The time leaps were always the most exciting parts of the show for me but the overall plot and nasty cliffhangers kept me constantly engaged.
The nasty cliff hangers don’t stop so you should be engaged as the show continues. Great cliffhangers if what gets me saying “one more chapter/episode” constantly 😂
To save u guys some time for thinking Takemitchy will get better at fighting, he won't. But he finds his own thing that no one has in the series aside from his time traveling

Reading the Tokyo revengers manga is still one of the best experiences I've ever had, as someone who has a short attention span, it has been able to keep me engrossed in its story from the beginning up until the latest chapters. Highly recommend it to everyone
bro i literally binged those chapters like the world was ending when i got into it a couple of weeks ago--something i havent done with a series since high school.
I tried liking this anime but I couldn't. Forced myself to watch all 24 episodes and still nothing. It doesn't motivate me to go and read the manga. Kinda disappointed because I see a lot of hype and the sales of the manga are insane. Maybe I'll try reading the manga but not right now.
This was one of my favorite animes to ever come out this year, it was so amazing. The opening, the characters, the action, the suspense. Its such a great show, and if you haven't watched it yet you really should.
Some of the cut offs during action scenes or scenes with tokyo manji gang in general have to do with censoring their logo, not that they didn't skimp out on animating some amazing fight sequences, but thought i'd throw that in there as well
I literally binged 100 chapters after the anime ended. I'm surprised at how you didnt mentioned that the story has some insanely nasty clifhangers left and right.
tokyo revengers has easily become one of my favourite series, I admit there are some clichés and takemichi irritated me a lot during the anime BUT as someone who immediately read the manga after the anime, IT'S SO GOOD and takemichi's development is immaculate. I agree takemichi's lack of learning to fight constantly annoyed me in the anime, ESPECIALLY as a fan of series like Lookism and Viral Hit, in which the main characters continuously self-improve and go from weak to strong. but at the same time without spoiling anything, I think takemichi's parallel to shinichiro characteristically is such a strong point and as I read the manga, I personally grew to appreciate him more and more. also, to anime onlys, let me just say if you liked the plot to S1 it'll only get better from here on out!
I just caught up to the manga and it’s actually so fire , this was my first manga and I just can’t wait to see how it ends and also can’t wait for everything to be animated it’s gonna be such a great anime
The reason for them being in middle school is apparently because the author used to be in a pretty similar irl gang as the Toman when he was that age at that time, also he said many things about the characters are inspired by his gang members. Which is kind of cool :D
@@jackcassidy9963 2000s japan was a wild age many middle schoolers and high schoolers form a gang and fight each others Thats why all of the delinquent series always take place in the 2000s or 90s cause it really was that dangerous living in japan back then Manga like out, drop, crows(zero, worst and the og crows) are created by an ex member of crew gang
Wait aint the draken va got into trouble cause he cheated his wife and know are getting publicly shame? I think thats the reason why they didn't inform us s2 cause draken is one of the most important character in the stories and that character va is now in trouble
Mangaka, Ken Wakui revealed surprising information about himself about how he came up with creating a Tokyo revenger's manga as he said he was a former member of a gang at past himself and wanted to create a series showing how the gangsters were in his era. Thus, everything that you see in Tokyo revengers manga/ anime is somehow close to how gangsters in japan work.
@@horavariadarosada4027 Yakuza and Bosozoku groups are practically dead at this point but in the 90s there a bunch of middle schoolers who were Bosozoku members and committing a lot of crime. Tokyo especially in places like Adachi-ku were pretty notorious for gang violence.
I think the big thing about takemitchy is that he never gets stronger. He never has this big "I'm the strongest person" moment. He does everything being a weak person.
5:40 He can't, he travels 12 years between future and past. This means, if he goes to the future, spends a year training there, when time travelling back, he will time travel still 12 years back, which means also a year passed in the past, but I do agree that he could train himself since the first episodes.
i kinda like how takemichi is a crybaby because he actually feels realistic. we all know a lot of people would act the same way if they were just randomly thrown into that lifestyle. and takemichi's "sensitivity" brings out things in the characters that we wouldn't expect to see because takemichi is such a caring and genuine friend to them. and [spoiler warning] in the recent manga chapters takemichi really stepped up and even beat the shit out of kisaki before his ugly ass got ran over 💀. despite having a gun held to his head as well, takemichi didn't back down and still survived.
And takemitchibcrying finally got adult mikey to beg to be saved. We know it's overwhelming for him.. that even squishy chifyuyu had to tell takemitchi to save everyone.. at that moment u don't think chifyuyu is terrified? But I think that's why takemitchi and chifyuyu are such a good pair. They're pretty much in tune with each other emotions. Chifuyu can read takemitchi really well
Not possible it's also explained in the anime that he can only travel 12 years back in time so theoretically if he stays 2 years in the future and then goes back 2 years in the past have passed aswell.
I didnt mind takemichi being a punching bad, as he is more meant to be the inspiring to people around him, you see how he grows as person by standing and getting beat, his life at ep.1 was he got there by running away from his problems, he never learns to fight but at least now shows care and tries(which in real life will get you killed in no time, but its good to see in fiction)
i agree!! he doesn’t necessarily get physically stronger but you see him change in so many different ways. he doesn’t run away anymore like he used to. he stops apologizing so much. and so on and so forth
This show is The Butterfly Effect meets The Outsiders 😂 I just binged it and it’s amazing how invested you get and how it leaves you in suspense, even tho throughout the show I was like WHERE ARE THEIR PARENTS 🤣🤣
Feel like this will play a big part. As a lot of the problems stems from parental neglect and shit. If you read the DVD booklets.. damn a lot of them have horrible parents especially torakazu.. poor guy.
I agree with every point Only thing you missed was the fact that Naoto is somehow aware of every single change that occurs in the world. As if they couldn’t just have Takemichi explain to him what he changed.
It’s revealed in the manga that his memory gets altered every time Takemitchy time travels. It affects Naoto in the same way it affects Takemitchy because they share a time travel link with the handshake.
⚠️⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️⚠️ How do _you_ feel about Kisaki's motives? I was thinking he was cool asl for how he was able to manipulate literally everyone without throwing a single punch, but it turns out his reason for doing it was just because he was a simp. We never get to understand why he'd ever need to do all of this if Takemichi and Hina broke up in the main timeline. He just gets hit by a truck and dies before we even get any elaboration. It's so obnoxious to me because this is something he's willing to let play out over the course of a literal decade. It's too juvenile a motive for me.
@@robertwesley7332 --spoilers-- because he wants Hina to acknowledge that he is better than Takemichi. He's a prodigy that's always been told he's the best but somehow Takemichi is more liked than him. He wanted whatever it is that Takemichi has that he doesn't. That's what it's really about. That's why he wanted to do a public proposal. To rub it in everyone's faces that he is the best. I'm assuming that in every timeline, Hina either brought up Takemichi or Kisaki asked about Takemichi, after he was rejected and that's why Takemichi gets pushed in front of the train. Or it's simply that he's mad that the person who unintentionally triggered all this just disappeared without doing anything, while Kisaki worked so hard all this time but it still turned out to be for nothing.
@@satiregojo2698 The animation honestly doesn't have to be that good since what makes Tokyo revengers great in the first place is its story. As long as it doesn't become an anime original, I don't think they can screw it over.

All I'm gonna say is that Charlie and any other anime only must prepare themselves for Kisaki's motivation. Let's just say it's gonna stir up quite a fuss and deservedly so.
Yeah, He mustered up his cunningness and deviousness for a stupid motivation in which he can achieve for over billions of people in different timelines. (subtle spoiler: and more cuter)
Is the show gonna get better bro? I've been watching it but I could never get past the fact that they're children who don't really have any life or financial reasons to be joining these groups. I can't take any of the gang stuff seriously, not to mention that these kids are basically running the city (at least that part of the city). I do have to say that his relationship and him trying to fix the present by changing the past is such a great concept.
I feel personally that the point of his character is that he's not supposed to be a good fighter. He's supposed to be an underdog of sorts who may not be as physically as strong as everyone else but his sheer resilience and persistence makes him the "hero".
I think people forget alot of this is happening in a very short time this isn't happening over the course of a couple years. A few days of training isn't gonna do much
@@nathandingyIt isn't about training having results. It's about a whiny MC complaining without doing anything about it. Like complaining having your face punched all the time, yet still keep having your face as a first line of defense.
@@nathandingy yea that as well. That's the issue with manga and anime sometimes is that it's rarely evident how quickly time is moving. I guess its technically a pacing issue but it's a common trope in anime where so much shit happens but it's like only been a short period of time.
There's a huge dissonance between the characters' ages and their behavior. They absolutely act, dress and talk like adults. The only reason I can think of as to why the writers made them in middle school was to appeal to a younger audience (although it put off a lot of people from watching the anime including myself, initially). Even DemonSlayer had a balance with how the characters still had a childish feel to them while making the anime appeal to an adult audience. I think Tokyo Revengers wouldn't been much better if it wasn't in a school setting and was an actual gang.

That's why Takemitchy is so vital to Toman, as much as Mikey and Drakken.

i kinda like how takemichi is a crybaby because he actually feels realistic. we all know a lot of people would act the same way if they were just randomly thrown into that lifestyle. and takemichi's "sensitivity" brings out things in the characters that we wouldn't expect to see because takemichi is such a caring and genuine friend to them. and [spoiler warning] in the recent manga chapters takemichi really stepped up and even beat the shit out of kisaki before his ugly ass got ran over 💀. despite having a gun held to his head as well, takemichi didn't back down and still survived.
Tbh agree. Realistically u would be freaking out. He's seen people due over and over again...and knowing he only has one shot in thr past... pressure.

Chifuyu can read takemitchi really well
I feel like at some point of the story he will go back to the starting point and fix everything with 0 deaths and all like clean run
He can't really do that because apparently it takes 2 to time travel lol
Not possible it's also explained in the anime that he can only travel 12 years back in time so theoretically if he stays 2 years in the future and then goes back 2 years in the past have passed aswell.
The characters look so good!

Ive never seen Charlie display so much emotion and passion for a topic.
What? He always does this
Then you must be new
I agree with every point
Only thing you missed was the fact that Naoto is somehow aware of every single change that occurs in the world. As if they couldn’t just have Takemichi explain to him what he changed.
It’s revealed in the manga that his memory gets altered every time Takemitchy time travels. It affects Naoto in the same way it affects Takemitchy because they share a time travel link with the handshake.
@@saiyanfreak ohhh okay that makes sense

⚠️⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️⚠️
How do _you_ feel about Kisaki's motives? I was thinking he was cool asl for how he was able to manipulate literally everyone without throwing a single punch, but it turns out his reason for doing it was just because he was a simp. We never get to understand why he'd ever need to do all of this if Takemichi and Hina broke up in the main timeline. He just gets hit by a truck and dies before we even get any elaboration. It's so obnoxious to me because this is something he's willing to let play out over the course of a literal decade. It's too juvenile a motive for me.
Same
It’s fantastic
@@robertwesley7332 --spoilers--
because he wants Hina to acknowledge that he is better than Takemichi.
Still gotta watch this show
read the manga it amazing but its gonna take 10 years to get animated and the animation is not that good

@@satiregojo2698 The animation honestly doesn't have to be that good since what makes Tokyo revengers great in the first place is its story. As long as it doesn't become an anime original, I don't think they can screw it over.

I didn't get past like ep 10 but i still have to disagree on the "well animated"part , some parts were really bad for such an big anime

Yes it has been announced and added to MAL :) (but not release date yet)
All I'm gonna say is that Charlie and any other anime only must prepare themselves for Kisaki's motivation. Let's just say it's gonna stir up quite a fuss and deservedly so.
When he was talking about Kisaski I cringed. Since I know his motivation
@@zamasu636 lol same
Yeah, He mustered up his cunningness and deviousness for a stupid motivation in which he can achieve for over billions of people in different timelines.

I mean it's a cultural thing. Violent kids do exist in japan lol. And kids do dress like that lol. Go to Harajuku lol
apparently its actually really accurate to 80' and 90's japan where 30% of the yakuza recruits came from the gangs in middle school and high school
