I really liked the villain, he was goofy as hell at the begin but also weirdly genuine which didn't make his quirky aspects unbearably. He wants to be taken seriously and as he gets stronger and more calculated we have to take him seriously.
Idk if it's a coincidence or not but spot is extremely similar to Rob from the amazing world of gumball. Almost to a point....he is turned into a distorted monster from the protagonist isn't taken seriously and then becomes a posable threat
The different art styles for each spider man is insane, for example with Hobie he is constantly changing, he never stays one color because he mentions that he hates consistency, which is such a great detail.
I think we can all agree that Hobie is a G. He told Miles how to use his powers properly so he could escape, said good when he was told that he wasn’t helping and then gave Gwen his dimension traveler so she can save Miles
@@yummy_slippers471 I don't know if it's just me but Hobie's design in atsv imo is way superior than in any medium I saw of spider punk. Maybe it's the longer spikes in the head.
its funnier when you realize he didnt just give Gwen his dimension traver. He gave her one that he made himself. When he quit, he actually threw his dimension traveller away. He made his own "watch" with the parts that we see him steal here and there. It even funnier when you realize he asks Miles why he was even goina along with everything and miles says, "To get a watch" Hobie then says "Then make your own" He then proceeds to make his own and give it to Gwen for her to save him.
I loved how the art style for each dimension remained consistent with the comics. Like how Gwen’s universe follows that airy water colour look from her comics.
And those scenes with her and her Dad were executed BEAUTIFULLY. I instantly knew what the movie was doing with the art, and I was loving every second of it. Even during the sad moments, I had to smile because of how well executed everything was in front of me ❤️❤️
I was so happy that Spot was eventually taken seriously in this film. As a character, he admittedly is kind of goofy (his first comic appearance literally had Spider-Man burst out laughing when he fought him), but he can also be potentially terrifying, which the movie adapted wonderfully.
definitely alike to how matt reeves was able to make a villain like the riddler, who’s often portrayed goofy as well, into such an intimidating and creepy character
I think there was a conclusion at the end. It was Gwen's arc being completed, her pitch to other spiders and us to save miles. Her going against the spider society and making up with her dad, I think that's a perfect ending to her arc considering we started the movie with her
i love how the background becomes a super simplified painting to keep your focus on the characters. and i really loved how the paint in the background started dripping as gwen went into her rant
I LOVED that scene. I was mesmerized by the whole color and everything. It's raining and you can tell by the running drips, augh the watercolor, it's just so good!
@@_unhaunts You realize the reason it took this long was because they were basically making 2 movies at once right? or a 4.5-5 hours long movie. 2nd part is dropping in less than 1 year most likely unless something happens to disrupt that.
i like how they went HARD into the cliffhanger, dude. didn't wrap any of the problems up, said "screw you, you're getting another movie." i respect that.
@@meriewanderer with the products they’ve given us so far, they Should have all the confidence deserve every bit of praise they’re going to keep getting for a long time
Exactly, they KNOW the viewers want more, and seem confident in spreading character arcs over 2 films if necessary. I don't like when a 4-5 hour story needs to break itself apart into 2 separate 3 act structures because of standard movie lengths. I think the most frustrating thing is this 9 month waiting period to conclude the story. Once both movies can be watched back to back, you'll just have an uncompromised 5 hour film.
fun fact about Hobie’s animation: in the first movie, miles is animated in 2’s, which is a new position every 2 frames, and the other spiders are animated in 1’s, or a new position every 1 frame. this was used to represent him being inexperienced. in the second movie, this carries, and is also used to represent who sides with miles and who doesn’t. Hobie’s animation is interesting because he is animated in 3’s, or a new position every 3 frames, while also constantly changing color, which is a representation of his non conformist views. His jacket is usually animated in 3’s but offset a frame or so for added effect, his outline is usually in 2’s or 1’s, depending on his motion, and his guitar is animated in 4’s with its cutout outline changing but usually in 3’s.
Love how in Gwen's world the people's emotions bleed into the art making it so when they're happy it turns into warm colors and when it's a more serious moment it's in colder colors
idk if you noticed but when gwen and her dad were arguing gwen's dad had a red taint on him while gwen had a green taint on her, signifying their opposite views
The colors change based on the distance Gwen feels from her father and when they embrace each other or get closer to each other they change to be similar colors which are warmer in tone. When she pushes away they fracture into cooler shades. It's fucking awesome
@@Epic_Gamer_9000 yeah I also noticed that, even at the beginning in gwen's band scene they already use blue and red colour to show each of the characters emotion.
the scene with gwen talking to her father was perfect. the way the background art reflects the exact mood of the situation and conversation at all times is beautiful.
I've never seen a movie use so many art styles before. The water color art they use in Gwen's was definitely one or my favorites. Gonna see it again this weekend coming up.
When the first film came out I was still in uni, studying animation in my honours year. We spent the whole 4hr class just gushing about it. When I saw the second film, I nearly cried at how beautiful Gwen's world is. It's a moving painting. I saw people coming up with similar concepts in uni, but artists are so rarely given the opportunity to flex. Time, money constraints. Please support this film as much as you can, show the studios we want to see more of this!
Completely agree. Gwen's world and the scenes when she talks with her father, the ambient just transforming into dripping colors, dropplets of paint falling everywhere, the feelings resonating with the ambient and colors... hands down the best movie I've ever seen.
The reason it was a cliff hanger is because the 2 creators had created too much for just one movie, and they had to stretch it out, so I feel like it's a good thing that we get more of this story even if the ending was anti-climactic
Dude that’s the problem. It’s too climactic 😂. Every concern and problem is left wide open and all the odds are in the enemy’s favor. Kinda like Infinity war. Very cool.
@jayavionharris2934 but the difference is infinity war felt like it had an ending, across the spiderverse kind of felt like it just ended randomly right when the big stuff where about to happen, which i know, was the point to build up hype, but IMO i felt very empty after the ending and i cant explain the feeling i have for it, its an amazing movie, but idk that ending kinda brought it from a 10 to a 9.5-9.3 for me again this is my opinion so if you dont agree thats fine
@@Hirxchi i agree with ur opinion tbh but for me I found it being left on a cliff hanger so much better idk why. Although I feel like I cant rate a movie a 10 if it needs a sequel to finish its story u know? So yh i feel like even tho i enjoyed the cliff hanger, it also brought my score from a 10 to a 9.5
I loved Spider Punk, he’s voiced by one of my favourite actors and he steals the scene visually whenever he’s on screen. Actually incredible. I was disappointed they didn’t do more with him but I can understand how hard he was to animate.
Not sure if anyone else felt this, but i loved how every time Miles would outwit or outshine another spider-person, it felt almost like another payoff from his immaturity in the first movie and how he's grown intellectually since then. A great example is when he's running from the spider society in O'Hara's dimension and we find out that he actually had a full plan, which contrasts greatly with how he ran - without thinking - from the Prowler in the first movie and led the villains to his friends.
We can see that Miles is one of the biggest brains and it's somewhat implied in the first movie where he faked getting a 0 purposely getting all the answers wrong in turn meaning he technically got 100% on the test (which is even shown in the first movie by his teacher\the person grading his test) and this is in an elite school mind you. 100% on a test from an elite school shoud put into perspective his level of intelect. The problem was, in the first movie, he was inexperienced, a lot was going on at once, he was panicked, he didn't even know how to control his powers initially, but once he did, once he got a grasp on it, we see his quick growth to the point where he outplays Peter B. (his mentor) before then going on to solo Kingpin. All that in just a week of life as Spider-Man. Flash forward to the beginning of the second movie where he's had 1 whole year as Spider-Man, we see how even while distracted by having to text his parents, keep conscious of the time and worry about being late, he's still able to take on Spot albeit rather clumsily. Those instances, he managed to hold on despite his handicaps, so then in a situation where he's experienced so much, learnt to calm down and can fully utilise his brain and body, it makes sense he'd be able to solo pretty much the entirety of Spider Society when he's got a plan while everyone else is blindly chasing him, planless.
@@ompatel5570I think he meant like the movie isn’t carried by its actions scenes, like the slower parts also hold the same amount of weight and importance as the faster parts do. At least that’s what I think lol
The amount of effort and care they put into both movies with the animation is soo damn good . Spider punk apparently took 3 years according to Justin K Thompson to animate
@@sanfordrussell8549 His mask has a spiked mohawk integrated into it, I think his hair being very expansive and contrasting to everyone else's makes complete sense against everyone else's. Plus it hardly looks bad.
I loved how her hair was blue for almost the entire time she was in her dimension with all her emotional baggage of being Spider Woman. Really well done with the colors especially after she returns home.
tbh i feel like the whole chase between miguel and miles was climatic enough for the movie. i felt so much tension and excitement watching all the spideys go after miles while having some intense dialogue, it definitely makes up for the cliffhanger that was left at the end imo
Miles escaped an entire society of spider people, was told his entire existence as Spider-Man was a mistake, fought and escaped one of the most advanced and badass Spider-Man Miguel, and we even got one of the most memorable lines “nah imma do my own thing”. If that ain’t a climax I don’t know what is.
It was too obvious. The spiderman saga was boring. Miguel's fight patterns was literally no different from The Prowlers. Not a single Spiderman had spider-sense. Edit: Oh yeah, Gwen is the most pathetic Spiderman. Literally couldn't dodge a bullet to save her life. Fucking Batman could dodge a bullet from that distance! The real twist was the ending. Movie only needed one more act to finish on a high note. The cliffhanger was just at a terrible point. Seems like a big money milker when u could end the movie with 20-30 more minutes of film.
Just came back from the theater with my mom during that scene we instinctively held each other's hand and teared up LOL. Loved this movie. The power of storytelling really is special.
i fr wanted to cry esp when his mom said “que dios te bendiga”!! my mom says this to me every single day when i leave the house so it just really hit me
Although I do agree that the cliffhanger is unsatisfactory and frustrating, I’d much rather prefer a story split into two parts than a movie that’s rushed and overly packed in with a never-ending stream of plot. I think the slow moving sequences of the film are crucial and play a critical factor in the progression of the film. I feel like if they were substituted in to make room for a fast-paced scene that throws information out then it takes away the appeal of love, anger, and sadness the characters hold for one another. It’s refreshing to see those drawn out, long yet sweet moments that really reflect on the character’s internal conflicts and nature, I’m beginning to become gratitude that it was split into two parts. But, even then, the second part will be out by next year, which beats five years, most definitely.
yeah the alternative in this situation would have been for them to cut things from this movie, and none of what across the spider-verse showed me do i wish i hadn't seen, so im glad they split them into 2, but they probably should have kept the titles part 1 and part 2 as they originally announced them as so they could set expectations.
yeah, and besides, i think we knew for a long time it was going to be a two part movie haha. iirc the first title of the movie was across the spiderverse part 1. we always knew it would have a cliffhanger
Yeah, I think majority of people agree with your sentiment but the ending itself could've been done in a way where it wouldn't have been disappointing. I think they should've ended the movie after the big reveal about Mile's home and rearranged the stuff with Gwen so her ending remains pretty much the same. Instead of continually building up to more plot developments at the end of the film those revisions would feel like a great climax to the movie that leaves people wanting to see the next one rather than wanting to see more out of this movie.
@@benboudreau1221 true the only other way is making one large ~5 hour movie (which i would absolutely love) but the general audience would probably not be able to sit through the entire thing, understandably so
I'm sure we'll get more movies from this dimensions Miles, but maybe it'll just not involve the multiverse. He could just deal with threats that originate in his universe, and stay there. However if they want to keep delving deeper into the Spider-Verse I'm game.
@@Sir_Slimbread i feel as if they could have endless possibilities with the introduction of the spider-verse. they could make the spot an endless villain, or they could tie-in earth 42. miles morales could learn from his prowler version. he could learn to fuse the prowler with spiderman - he could make new tech with penny. they have good opportunities with this next movie.
I knew this movie would slap from those first moments with Gwen as she's thinking of Miles and walking downtown and he keeps showing up in the background, I love that kind of subtle storytelling and internal look into a character. This movie was a master class work of art.
Some things I appreciated is that the emotional moments weren’t cut off with a forced joke. The emotions are allowed to sit with the characters and audience. The humor was sharp and quick, and the world styles so well done. Everything here was just done exceptionally well. What an experience.
If this was an MCU movie, those emotional moments would be broken with a side or supporting character, which for the most part in GOTG Vol. 3, they didn't do.
I beg to differ, Peter B. Parker was kinda just annoying in this movie, he makes little side commentary which is really unnecessary, even Jessica Drew tells him to shut up at one point, and did we really need him to talk to his wife and crack jokes in the middle of that intense sequence cutting between miles and Gwen
This movie was a masterpiece and the fact that it was gwen telling the story the whole time to her new Band and was asking them to help her at the end was genius

Dude I didn't even watch any of the previous movies. My little brother recommended I go see it, so I did. My friend described the animation as "24/7 art porn". Absolutely amazing. The contrast between the hyper pop saturation of the multiverse/dimensional glitches and the b&w scheme of Spot are insane. The sound engineering, soundtrack, and pacing are fucking amazing. Will definitely be watching the previous movies and waiting for the release of the next one!
There's only one previous movie (if you're talking about the Spider-Verse films). If you mean the Spider-Man films in general, then you will have a lot to catch up on, and films of varying quality. But I'd say it's a solid bet that if you cap them all off with the first Spider-Verse film and rewatch this one, you'll possibly agree that the Spider-Verse films are the best of all of them. In part for the simple fact of how they took something that could have been too complex and somehow made it all work.
I've never seen so many different techniques in animation blended and smashed together so seamlessly. Visual storytelling at its finest. Such emotive backgrounds. The different stylistic choices in character design and frameing was unbelievable
Ikr. Like if I had never seen these movies and someone said “every single character has a different artstyle” I would’ve thought it would be a visual headache, but they did it in such an amazing way
Fun detail, they animated each universe in the same art style as the comic it's from. So Gwen's universe looks a lot like how it does in her comic. The attention to detail in this movie is insaneeeee
I was so shocked to find out everyone was caught off guard by the cliffhanger - I thought it was common knowledge that the film was originally 4 hours and they split it in half so I was actually satisfied with the cliffhanger and excited for the finale
I was expecting a cliffhanger but I wasnt expecting THAT cliffhanger. Damn I never expected my expectations were low because I thought it was really high but they were able to break that
I was lucky enough to live close to a brand new movie theater in a remote area, so I got to see this movie opening day with not another soul in the theater. Single-handedly one of the best viewing experiences of my life.
I found Gwen’s world to be the best part. I don’t know if was intended to be interpreted as I did, but I find her world to be a personification of her mood and depression in the beginning. The use of pastel, changing tones and shades as her conversations take different turns with her dad. Miguel is a favorite character definitely. The exaggeration of his new costume, his motivations, his desperation to hold everything no matter what the cost, and his personal vendetta against Miles is so damn good. Also, they had already announced that they wanted to make a two-parter. I imagine it was because of the fact that there’s only so much they could fit into one movie and make a successful story. The second part was actually supposed to be released for this year, with this movie having supposed to be released back in late 2020 or early 2021. I do get his sentiment, it really does end a bit abruptly, but the fact that time flew by so fast and didn’t have much drag is so damn good.
The movie’s original title was even Across the Spider-Verse Part 1 (you can see this in the very first teaser) I’m assuming they realized it was more marketable to give them different titles
I love that Spot has a link from the first film giving it a link between the two so it feels like a progression of the story instead of being totally seperate
I also love how he gradually builds up to be the big bad with how he seemingly starts off as this goofy little guy with a shit power and ends being a legit terrifying threat that you honestly fear

This trilogy is probably gonna be my favorite till time ends. I just love how the first movie has hints to the second and even third movie. I love how like you said, how dynamic the background color was and how it constantly changed to fit the mood and convey complex feelings. It allowed for us the audience to see the inner feelings of every character when they appear on screen and that's probably why animated films will always be my favorite. The amount of time and effort that was put into all of these movies can be seen. With animated films you really get to feel the life behind the art directors, their feelings and passion, burned into animation. It's unbelievable ❤
The pacing of the film was so good that I thought we were only half way done after 2 and a half hours, so that cut to black with the “to be continued” caught me at just the right moment. I’m young, so it’s a new experience being genuinely exited over a movie. That’s how good the ending was. I am pumped for the sequel ten months from now. Fortunately, going into summer for the next three months, then into football and then into snowboarding immediately afterwards should help the time fly, but dear god do i wish I could just time jump to opening day.
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse they apparently had the second half of this film nearly ready to go, but decided to make it a 2nd part coming out next year so that they could fine tune it
These Spider Man animated movies are truly taking animation to the next level and never fails to continue inspiring other studios. They made it better than the first one, which a near impossible feat in on itself, and pass in flying colours! Absolute mad production.
@@CreatureCal Of course but animation is not an art style, it's a medium, like painting and film. You can have an art style within animation and whatnot as well
In defense of the ending, while it did feel somewhat unresolved, both arcs with Gwen and Miles were completed. Gwen's arc was resolved when she made up with her father, and Miles' when he finally got the courage to tell his parents that he was Spider-man (granted it wasn't in his universe). So while the movie did leave on a cliffhanger with the final battle not taking place, the movie still is and feels complete because all major character arcs were resolved.
Just got out of the theater and holy shit this movie is breathtaking. The part in Gwen's universe especially with the watercolours, you can see her world crying with her
Genuinely one of the most stylized movies out there. The colors, the designs. Everything and everyone has a distinct artstyle of it's own. It's insane! The soundtrack was full of bangers, I'm so proud that Metro Boomin made it to the movie industry. The third movie can't come soon enough.
The animation is genuinely better than disney at this point. I'm kinda tired of the same bubble art style that they've been using and recent films from other studios are a breath of fresh air.
@@craigmeister1241 not just disney the animation from the spider verse movies are the best in the industry what other movie looks this expressive and stylish? other animation studios are taking inspiration from spider verse now these movies have changed the animation industry
My family hates how long it was and how it ended on a cliffhanger but I just loved EVERYTHING. The writing, animation, music production, EVERYTHING had heart poured into it
I didn't even notice the length because the pacing was so well. I'm a cinephile, though, so I don't get a sense of a movie being too long (especially given how much they cost where I live -- they're more expensive than back home) if the pacing is right. And I saw a preview that had called it "Part One," so it didn't bother me. It wouldn't have bothered me regardless, though because everything after the Spider chase was like a lengthy denouement.
Saw it in IMAX last night. They managed to take literally EVERYTHING that made the first film so great, and surpass it in everyway. Scores a solid 12 outta 10 in my book Also, every single shot in this movie would make a sick wall portrait
What people are missing, is that these movies are absolutely an animated COMIC like, it stays so true to the comics and itself. So the “to be continued” is reminiscent to how we the readers felt back in the day when we had to wait for the next volume :)
I'm sure the animators loved working on this film, it must be refreshing to be given so much creative freedom and actually get to work on something different and enjoyable.
I love Spot as a villain so much. He starts off being so goofy but even then his choreography is so fun, watching him fight is a treat. But then as the movie goes on you genuinely start to feel SCARED of him, and I feel like Beyond the Spider-Verse will absolutely go even further with it
I actually disagree, I really like the ending and here’s why: They clearly had a story to tell that is a great narrative with many moving parts. The writes and producers clearly realized it was too much for one film, and I appreciate that they just decided to make it two films instead of trying to compress it into one. I believe originally it was even titled part 1. In my opinion this doesn’t detract from the movie, instead it allowed the pacing to be great, and the emotional moments and character development to take its time. Nothing felt rushed or forced. I just hope that the beginning of the next movie hits the ground running with a fast act one and no gap in the action, so that as a complete experience they could be watched together for a full 5-6 act sequence. I think it’s totally fine to make a two parter, which this clearly is. The narrative is incomplete, but great so far and the movie is gorgeous. I just hope the next one doesn’t suffer as many delays-although I’m willing to wait for a quality product rather than have it rushed.
I think also a lot of people forgot that they announced a good while ago that this was going to be a 2 parter. So i went in knowing it was gonna be a cliffhanger at the end.
Unpopular opinion: The cliffhanger was perfect, unlike any other film I have seen before. It genuinely surprised me and left me so excited for the last movie. I knew a last movie was coming, and this was the perfect way to build up to it.
I just watched this after I watched the movie. I had no clue it was! I was so ready with the build up but in the last 45 seconds before the "to be continued" it was sinking in with the huge lead up but in slow roll. Honestly amazing movie. I loved the cliffhanger. It was better than most I've ever seen. Plus the imagery, the music, the writing and script? If any of it was off it would have made it an awful cliffhanger.
It was a very satisfying and exciting ending for me since I knew a part 2 was coming going into it. I disagree with people saying it wasn’t a conclusion, I really think it wrapped things up nicely and gave alot to look forward to in the next movie. Underrated but the orchestra also comes to a beautiful conclusion in the final scene and we end how we started with Gwen. They couldn’t make a 5 hour movie and I couldn’t imagine a better way to stop in the middle of the story they have to tell
Gwen's dimension is by far my favorite one of all at least visually. As someone who's so emotionally driven, the way they crafted the entire mood and atmosphere of her dimension was so ingenious and just hit me hard especially during the character focused scenes
Hearing Charlie recognize the beautiful art and dialogue was a joy to hear. My friends only talk about the sound track and are on the “cannon” meme trend only. I was truly in awe of the movie. I plan on seeing it again because the mood is just perfect
Im glad to hear that they did the Spot justice. The characterization of the villains in spiderverse is fanastic, the B-plot in the first movie with Miles' uncle, aka the Nightprowler, was way more complex and powerful than I was expecting it to be, it really makes me happy to see them crafting nuanced antagonists and not just angry bad guys
Just though I'd let you know since you like their dynamic so much. In one comic, Miles and Gwen have a baby together. Honestly, I don't think they should follow this route in the movie series, but it's still really cool.
@@Aciid_ic Lol I know, I own the whole run. I necessarily don’t need them to be in a romantic relationship. I just genuinely like there interactions with each others it’s such a naturally vibe.

I thought the animation of the first movie couldn't get any better, yet the 5 years of work put into it after the first movie, really shines. The story is actually amazing, and sets up a potentially endgame level movie finale. Another thing I loved is how they connected the spot to the first movie (and miles's anomaly as well), in a way it made perfect sense.
Genuinely one of the most artistically ambitious movies I’ve ever seen. They took what made the first one so cool to look at and absolutely elevated every aspect. Phenomenal movie
The visuals were so good i was literally covering my mouth the whole time n i literally teared up at every fight scene verbal and physical cause of how COOL THEY WERE
the part early on where they teamed up against the vulture made me cry from sheer awesomeness. That has never happened to me before. I've gone extended full poggers for action sequences (looking at you, Fury Road), but never to tears. What an incredible movie
I kept sliding down my chair, covering my mouth and curling up to release my HYPE I was in the cinema so I wouldn't feel right screaming but it was SO HYPE IN THERE, I HAVENT GONE TO THE CINEMA IN AGES
Miles is fantastic in this movie and easily became one of my top Marvel characters. The relationship between him and his family literally stole every emotional scene in this movie. I love his family dynamic. That one scene where he's just talking with his mother on the roof, and their going back and forth was so well done, so well animated, such an emotional scene of a parent afraid of their child growing apart, and every line delivered in such a way that made them feel human and authentic.
Absolute work of art. It was like the screen was bursting & dripping with colours. Peak animation. Just wish they had explored Pavitr's character more but I'm sure they'll do that in the next movie. Loved it so soooo much. 🕷
The whole point of his character is that he’s not a nuanced Spider-Man yet. He hasn’t had his defining moment so his life is basically just nothing but what you see on the surface.
I just thought they would give a quick cameo but no they gave him a whole arc and i liked that but in the 3rd film i want them to explore new character also
I genuinely think people are going to look back at this movie and acknowledge it as a masterpiece and an important part of animation history. This movie is THAT good.
I think that role goes to the first one considering how it reshaped animation over the past 5 years. This sequel is incredible and maybe even better than the first but the credit for changing animation history goes to the original.
@@jadenkootenay8549 well for one I said maybe. And anyway, so what if I do? There’s plenty that the second does better than the first, such as the animation. Personally I don’t mind 2 part films, especially when we don’t even have to wait a year for the next one. Also the film definitely had a middle and end, just because the plot doesn’t wrap up doesn’t mean there was no arc.
6:15 even when him and hobie are talking its so good, "they just want whats best for me, yknow?" is such a packed line because it shows that hes listening and thinking about what their saying
I think they designed the ending for the movie as an average comic book cliffhanger, making sure the reader/watcher gets all the information they need in order to get the next book (watch the next movie) I think they also added the classic “to be continued” as they do in so many other comics, some were taken aback by this sure but I think it was nice 😊
I personally loved how they ended it on the cliffhanger. It did exactly what a comic would do, end on a cliffhanger and make you wait. I enjoyed the “to be continued” I thought it was funny. The movie was hilarious and this was another thing that I found funny. It made me even more pumped for the next movie. Now I get to go back and watch it all again
That is an extremely good point that you have made, animated superhero films never really leave on a cliffhanger, but it makes completely sense for this film to do so, I don't understand why people hate the cliffhanger to be honest
additional to that, the film would be totally overwhelming if they tried to finish the story. I’m glad they are taking the two part approach, probably this is going to be one of the best trilogies ever.
@@libig8245 Not a movie but Netflix's Arcane was also a masterpiece of animation. Although this movie kinda blows Arcane out of the water which is insane
Just saw it yesterday and I gotta say, because they announced the 3rd one (it was originally supposed to be one film, but they said they were gonna split it up cause it'd be a 5 hour movie). I think using the character building and growth as the climax (during that chase, Miles' experience in earth 42, and gwens conversation with her dad) was a great idea. Despite the lack of that major fight they still made it feel like a complete movie which is really impressive imo

I saw it yesterday and literally everyone in the theater screamed 'NOOOO' When the movie ended. Every single person and me included was upset that it ended where it did because the movie was sooooo good. I just didn't want it to end. I would've gladly sat there for 4 hours lol. I'll probably go and watch it again with better seats.
saw it today in dbox seats, if you do decide to see it again and are willing to spend the extra few dollars on a ticket (assuming your theater has dbox seats or something similar) definitely do it. 100% worth it. Especially when music is playing my seat was moving to every beat perfectly.
I feel like once Beyond comes out, that's the intended way these films are meant to be watched. Across followed by Beyond in one sitting. they are one whole story. Watching one without the other would be like picking up a book halfway through
Honestly one of the best animated films EVER. If you haven't seen it yet I highly highly highly reccomend going and seeing it in IMAX. It made the expirience so immersive.
I knew it was gonna be two parts going in, but it was still such a bummer that it is a “To Be Continued” but I’m so excited to see more. I loved getting more story for Gwen and seeing her plight. The animation shifts with her and her dad it’s beautiful. The music is amazing, and the animation really blew me away. SpiderPunk always having a contrasting style was so cool. I loved meeting more of the spiderpeople such as Pavitr Prabhakar, Scarlet Spider, and Spectacular Spider-Man . I’m glad we saw Webslinger. I think Spot was a great villain and I got chills when he got his full form. I think the twist they employed was actually amazing. They used the run time so well and I can’t wait for more.
I mostly agree, except for the ending big. Vague SPOILER WARNING: I remembered pretty distinctly that first trailer called it “Across the Spiderverse: Part One” so, despite dropping that title, especially as the movies last act continued to build I realized that regardless of title they were gonna still make it a two parter. So my expectations then became waiting for a crazy cliffhanger, instead of a conclusion. Which I kind of like because it makes me excited and confident that the next one will be good. It feels like they storyboarded and wrote out the plot and then realized it was too much for one movie. But instead of cutting corners and trying to cram it all in, they’re committing to a well executed evolution and continuation of the first movie. I’m really happy with how it turned out and I loved the ending. Also I think we got some degree of closure between Gwen and her dad which I think also helped. Super excited for the 3rd.
Spoiler Warning: Don't read if you haven't seen the film yet. I disagree with Charlie on the ending. The buildup I felt left me anticipating what was coming next. It was like waving a juicy, steamy, spicy chicken drumstick in my face and telling me. The whole "something just goes awry" was the fact that Miles was in the wrong dimension. He'd been sent to Earth 42, the Earth his spider came from while Gwen and Spot were at Earth 1610. Miles was supposed to go to Earth 1610 to go and save his father, to go and stop Spot, to confess to his parents. Gwen was supposed to be with him and inform him of her findings, of the fact that there's a chance to save his father if he just prevents him from becoming a Police Captain, but they ended up in the wrong place. Gwen and Miles realise this, Miles a little too late. He's knocked out and chained up, face to face with himself, the prowler. We're shown Miles with a face of worry and then before it ends, we're shown Miles with a face of determination. He's grown up. He ain't afraid and he's gonna prove himself right by all means necessary
yeah i definitely feel like it was an issue of the story simply just being too long for one film so they were forced to cut it in half or cut down on the scenes. i'm personally so glad they're choosing to keep everything in there even in two parts, it makes for a much fuller experience overall than chopping the movie up
@@HydroBird18 dude, you have to realize that if you pause on any frame in the movie, youre gonna find a hidden detail or easter egg. And since the movie is animated, that means every single frame has intention and purpose. Think about that for a moment
I'll never forget when I went to watch Into the Spider-Verse expecting a little crappy mid Spidey movie, and getting out of the theater with it becoming my favorite Spider-Man movie over time. I thought a sequel would be unnecesary, but with all the trailers and reviews, I honestly think this could become my favorite film of 2023. AAAAAH SO EXCITED :)
when the movie was announced it was originally “part 1” with the next one being a “part 2”. so for those who were following the development of the movie i think the cliffhanger was expected and definitely more palatable. i really like how hard they committed to the cliff hanger because i’m so confident they’ll make an amazing follow up.
Across the spiderverse is amazing, Its reignited my love for Spider-Man. Everyone who worked and works on the spiderverse movies are super talented and amazing. I was blown away at the attention to detail in the background, especially between the conversation between Rio and Miles.
Minor spoilers for adding onto what Charlie said about the end: . . . . . The movie doesn't just end all of a sudden with no explanation, there's some story arcs completed, then some build up, then a cliffhanger, which is very obviously a cliffhanger. So it's not like we're in the dark on where it's headed.
I love how charlie almost organically comes up with one of my favourite concepts in cinema - every frame a painting, and this movie absolutely nailed it
Not knowing anything about the creation, the ending was a huge shock but not in a bad way. It felt really confident. I also love how The Spot transformed from a man covered in spots to a being who IS a spot.
The Animation is obviously magnificent in this movie, I think we can all categorically say that nobody in the business can do it even half as well, and that's considering Arcane, but what I loved most about it is how the actual villain of the story is the meta concept of how Spider-man has been written over the years. It's such a thoughtful exploration of the source material, every line of it radiates passion.
I loved that. Spider-Man 2099 and his crew becoming enemies to Miles was really unexpected in a way. Also, Spot becoming this accidental villain force to be reckoned with when we kick off the movie with him being a goober was very nice character development.
Idk man puss and boots and TMNT are providing some pretty solid competition. This movie definitely is able to capture the sheer scale and grandure of its scenes I will give it that tho
@@masontoy1976 Puss in Boots did look great, it chose an animation style and elevated it to perfection, but this movie is so much more visually innovative, it's constantly on the bleeding edge of what animation could be
The best part was how so much was going on but it all felt properly paced. Unlike a lot of my friends thought the ending was a massive letdown, I thought it was fine that it ended like that and felt natural.
i dont know much about sound engineering but if u notice everytime spiderman 299 does something that one part in his theme song is slightly integrated into the already playing soundtrack, an actual masterpiece from a sound and visual perspective
This film really does feel like a masterclass in animation. Everything about it is stunning and the amount of passion and heart for even the smallest of scenes is just such a masterpiece. Spot is also a terrifying villain, at the end of the film he was legit scary and im excited to see what part 2 brings.
I loved every second. Each frame a painting of some sort. 2h20 went by feeling like 1h40. The pacing is very good and the writing is near perfect, which sets up the great performances of every actor involved. This is a benchmark for animation studios that are trying to push the envelope.
I really liked the villain, he was goofy as hell at the begin but also weirdly genuine which didn't make his quirky aspects unbearably. He wants to be taken seriously and as he gets stronger and more calculated we have to take him seriously.
His origin story is very goofy though
Yeah he started out very goofy, but by the end he is legitimately terrifying both in power and appearance.
Idk if it's a coincidence or not but spot is extremely similar to Rob from the amazing world of gumball. Almost to a point....he is turned into a distorted monster from the protagonist isn't taken seriously and then becomes a posable threat
He was a lame ass villain
He snaked into my top 5 villains after that movie. They really nailed it with the spot
The different art styles for each spider man is insane, for example with Hobie he is constantly changing, he never stays one color because he mentions that he hates consistency, which is such a great detail.
It took them three years to animate Hobie! Just a fun fact
And his guitar is just a paper put on top of him it's awesome

I think we can all agree that Hobie is a G. He told Miles how to use his powers properly so he could escape, said good when he was told that he wasn’t helping and then gave Gwen his dimension traveler so she can save Miles
By far the best character. Just there to instill chaos and be comic relief while not disrupting the flow of the movie and it's perfect

@@yummy_slippers471 I don't know if it's just me but Hobie's design in atsv imo is way superior than in any medium I saw of spider punk. Maybe it's the longer spikes in the head.
"it's a metaphor for capitalism"
its funnier when you realize he didnt just give Gwen his dimension traver. He gave her one that he made himself. When he quit, he actually threw his dimension traveller away. He made his own "watch" with the parts that we see him steal here and there.
It even funnier when you realize he asks Miles why he was even goina along with everything and miles says, "To get a watch"
Hobie then says "Then make your own"
He then proceeds to make his own and give it to Gwen for her to save him.
The pacing of the film was smoother than butter. It was the fastest 2 hours and 20 minutes in my life because how much I enjoyed it

They gave us a comic book cliffhanger, which was perfect
fun fact about Hobie’s animation: in the first movie, miles is animated in 2’s, which is a new position every 2 frames, and the other spiders are animated in 1’s, or a new position every 1 frame. this was used to represent him being inexperienced. in the second movie, this carries, and is also used to represent who sides with miles and who doesn’t.

I loved him, they had Kaluuya’s character as long as he needed to be there. After all, he knows better than to be caught with all those spare parts.
Exactly
Beautiful observation thanks fir sharing

How is that subtle 💀
Some things I appreciated is that the emotional moments weren’t cut off with a forced joke. The emotions are allowed to sit with the characters and audience. The humor was sharp and quick, and the world styles so well done. Everything here was just done exceptionally well. What an experience.
If this was an MCU movie, those emotional moments would be broken with a side or supporting character, which for the most part in GOTG Vol. 3, they didn't do.
The jokes were actually funny too.

I beg to differ, Peter B.

@@lettuceprime4922 feels pretty god damn good tbh

I actually disagree, I really like the ending and here’s why:
They clearly had a story to tell that is a great narrative with many moving parts.
THIS
They delayed the 1st one by a year and the polish definitely shows!
This part I mean
I think also a lot of people forgot that they announced a good while ago that this was going to be a 2 parter. So i went in knowing it was gonna be a cliffhanger at the end.
Totally agree
I kinda predicted it cause I saw a picture of miles moRrrales but apart from that I haven’t seen any spoilers which is a nice change
Perfect is a strong wrong, but i appreciate.
I agree. It felt as well done as Star Wars : Empire Strikes Back
It was a very satisfying and exciting ending for me since I knew a part 2 was coming going into it.

The cast for Mario is star studded, at least relative to the spiderman one
He ain't afraid and he's gonna prove himself right by all means necessary
yeah i definitely feel like it was an issue of the story simply just being too long for one film so they were forced to cut it in half or cut down on the scenes. i'm personally so glad they're choosing to keep everything in there even in two parts, it makes for a much fuller experience overall than chopping the movie up
It's slated to come out March next year if there isn't delays
This is the greatest piece of animation my eyes have ever experienced. It was worth that 5 year wait and then some
Who payed you to say that
@@HydroBird18 He's not wrong tho.
By the way, spiderverse 3 may appear in march 2024
yess
@@HydroBird18 dude, you have to realize that if you pause on any frame in the movie, youre gonna find a hidden detail or easter egg. And since the movie is animated, that means every single frame has intention and purpose. Think about that for a moment
@@HydroBird18 no one
Remember, this movie started with gwen and it ended with gwen. This is gwen's both conflict and conclusion, and its beautifully poetic.
Its peak, as someone qho watched it, its fucking fantastic

This movie sucks
Dude watch it , it’s worth it gave me chills at parts
when the movie was announced it was originally “part 1” with the next one being a “part 2”. so for those who were following the development of the movie i think the cliffhanger was expected and definitely more palatable. i really like how hard they committed to the cliff hanger because i’m so confident they’ll make an amazing follow up.
Agreed, I'm glad they didn't try and condense the story down to 2 hours and are really taking the time to do it right
Across the spiderverse is amazing, Its reignited my love for Spider-Man. Everyone who worked and works on the spiderverse movies are super talented and amazing. I was blown away at the attention to detail in the background, especially between the conversation between Rio and Miles.
Minor spoilers for adding onto what Charlie said about the end:

The movie doesn't just end all of a sudden with no explanation, there's some story arcs completed, then some build up, then a cliffhanger, which is very obviously a cliffhanger. So it's not like we're in the dark on where it's headed.
Oh ok 👍
I love how charlie almost organically comes up with one of my favourite concepts in cinema - every frame a painting, and this movie absolutely nailed it
Loving Vincent is a painted movie!
Not knowing anything about the creation, the ending was a huge shock but not in a bad way. It felt really confident. I also love how The Spot transformed from a man covered in spots to a being who IS a spot.
That ending scene in Gwen's room. The way the walls were seen as wet paint was just amazing.
This movie was insane. I fell in love with the art style for into the spiderverse and this movie just bumped it up even more.
@@masontoy1976my man did not just bring up tmnt animation while we talking about spiderverse lmfao
@@masontoy1976 love puss in boots but it's not close in animation.

Its not like they said it would be a two parter when it was announced 5 years ago

@Peppyyoz I exposed myself.
The ending was so powerful. I never would have guessed that this would happen. The animation beautifully compliments every emotional scene as well.
i dont know much about sound engineering but if u notice everytime spiderman 299 does something that one part in his theme song is slightly integrated into the already playing soundtrack, an actual masterpiece from a sound and visual perspective
i absolutely loved that!! it really pumped up the tension later on in the film as he becomes more of a threat to miles, such an ominous feeling
