@@zaferkaraagac9361 Then you would know that gabi isn't Eren. Eren wasn't ever fighting for himself. Eren was not intending to oppress the rest of the world for personal gain. Paradis is innocent, as no one on that island has participated in any war except for against the dummy titans. They cannot be blamed as a race for the wars their ancestors waged. Even the attack in Libero Zone was after Marley declared war on them. Gabi is an antagonist and an oppressor from the beginning. While yes, there are SOME parallels but all in all these two are very different.
The story is so well made, usually when a character "goes evil" you can see how they could be wrong in doing so but here I don't even blame Eren for half the crap he's done, sure he's doing evil things but the world hates him for existing, it's either he or them and I can't wait to see how it ends.
I love Eren's development. He dedicated his entire life to the rage-fueled slaughter of the enemy: Titans. But the revelation that the Titans were never the enemy shakes him to his core. When they finally reach the sea, Eren is the only one not celebrating. Because he fully understands that his enemy was always the world.
It's interesting how a lot of people think Eren has changed into a villain, but if you go back and pay close attention, he was always like this. He wanted to slaughter the titans for what they did to him and like you said, now he knows the entire world is his enemy. They have that scene in Season 4 where Mikasa has a flashback to Eren killing her kidnappers and she realizes he had evil in him the entire time, it's just been flamed and developed over the course of this show.
I mean yeah he himself says that "[he] has always been that way", always fueled by determination and raging at the world. Moving forward, no matter what. Even as a kid he had quite the skewered morals (not feeling regret over the kidnappers' death isn't that bad tbh but he outright dehumanizes them in the moment)
Nah the worst man in the show is Erwin He's not like Eren who... well I can't say anything cause spoilers but he is described as a literal devil Which actually serves right his morally gray or actually dark character
The way Eren works here is perfect. He is simultaneously a villain, a hero, and a victim. There are points where you will do a 180 flip on how you feel about him and somehow it doesn’t give you emotional whiplash. It works.
@@markerwrld6217 I mean Spoiler if you haven't seen it in the anime but Eren already told her he "always hated her" wether he actually means it or not, so she's going to have to live with that, most likely because he wants her to be her own person. And honestly that's a good thing. Her being attached at the hip to Eren all the time has made her a very stagnant character with almost no real development. id kinda like to see what she can do when she isn't constantly obsessing over Eren.
@@PatrickRatman Slight spoiler but in the manga I think it said Eren said he always loved her and that he wanted Mikasa to think about him for like 10 years after he dies. . .correct me if I'm wrong tho
@@PatrickRatman big jucy spoiler but eren said to mikasa that he hates her so that she can kill him and that everyone outisde the island would think that mikasa is a hero and paradis wil be saved. its said later in the manga
the show definitely deserves all the hype it gets. it foreshadows stuff so well and explains almost any question you come up with eventually. if you re-watch the past seasons after all the info thrown at you in this season, there is some major shit that i personally just shrugged off as complementary scenes. it's just so carefully crafted that i might just have to read the manga instead of waiting til the winter for part 2.
Season 4 doesn't even feel like the same show anymore, but not in a bad way. Like it feels like it's evolved naturally to this point but everything feels so wildly different
Season 1: Eren wants to Kill all the titans Season 2: Eren wants to kill reiner and berthold. Season 3: Eren wants to make historia queen and take back The wall so he can find out what's in the basement. Season 4: Eren wants to destroy the whole world
The episode where Gabi brags about what she did to the wrong character at literally the worst time, leading to that amazing "children in the forest" speech was my favorite episode. The way they showed how those who have matured handle trauma and heartbreak in comparison to those that have yet to learn to look for an understanding was masterful. Especially their work on the expressions of the characters, the rage, confusion, woe, and fear. It was all done so damn well

spoilers but it explains everything about and after s4 regarding eren and if he is good or bad Eren is not evil he is trying to save Paradis. He doesn't want to do zekes plan. He wants to do the rumbling and to save everyone. He tells Mikasa and Armin he hates them so they don't get in the way and gets killed. And in the manga eren and Mikasa have a way better relationship. He does hate the fact that Mikasa is a slave but he says this to stop the ackerman curse so that he can love her. At the end eren says that he needs to be killed for it to be stopped and he says that they can kill him. Mikasa is the one that kills eren, as the true founding titan and kisses him goodbye for the first and last time as she cuts his head off. Mikasa also visits his grave after his death proving that she liked him even beyond the Ackerman blood. Also eren protects Mikasa many times without hesitation and also they are about to kiss a few times but they are in life or death situations so eren focuses on saving them. He promises the always wrap Mikasa's scarf witch shows he doesn't really hate her. He also says he doesn't want her having feelings for anyone else. He also says that no one in his friends will inherit his titans because he wants them all to live long lives.
Its not that hard if you actually think, if you're going to go on a philosophy about good and evil especially in Attack on Titan, we should know that "good and evil" isn't thing in reality. Obviously, you're referring to the so called good guys in the story, but yeah AOT does something really different and unique.
Not gonna lie, it feels good being someone who's loved Attack on Titan for years and is finally seeing people give it the love it deserves. As Gigguk said, it went from being overrated to criminally underrated. Now I think it's getting exactly the love it deserves.
I don’t watch anime, just not my cup of tea. But god damn if I haven’t binge-watched the entirety of attack on titan twice over. I could rant for hours about how masterfully this show and story was crafted
You should also watch Vinland saga, its very similar and is also a masterpiece. Season 1 was finished a few months ago and they are about to get a season 2 in a few months!
You should get into FMA: Brotherhood. It actually has a very similar setting/aesthetic to recent AoT: early 1900s Europe/Germany with WW1 era technology. Also just like AoT, it deals with lots of political intrigue and the characters unraveling huge government conspiracies, coupes, racism and a history of war/genocide between two different nations, etc. On top of that it also explores what it means to be human, the value of a human soul, the constant give and take between nature and humanity, religion vs science, etc. Its definitely more lighthearted and more adventurous than AoT but its not like a little kids show, it starts off pretty light but it can get very serious and dark. On top of that the cast of characters is absolutely gigantic and pretty much every single one is well developed and entertaining, its also one of the times where I genuinely think the dub is vastly superior to the sub (incredible cast like Troy Baker, and the english just feels more natural to the characters and setting) Before AoT came along this was pretty much the undisputed best “starter” anime of all time. Just like AoT most of its fans say its not just one of the best animes but one of the best shows ever, period, up there with Breaking Bad and shit.
@@nomorepartiezz well, with how much free time I've got right now I can't help but be thankful for your suggestion. that pretty much nails all of my favorite aspects of AoT (aside from the titans of course.) I'll be sure to check it out. Have a good one brother!
@@budja1501 for sure man! The one thing Ill warn you is that the show is a remake of an older version, so the first 12ish episodes are a little rushed. Those episodes also have a little too much “anime” humor with chibis and stuff. Thats definitely the stuff Ive had the most trouble with in trying to get people into it. But it grows past that.
Attack On Titan is a masterpiece and this Season really showed how far the series has evolved from the start. I love what they did with Eren as a character this Season, definitely one of my favorite anime characters of all time
I love how you highlighted that Gabi isn't a bad character. I feel like people forget that a character you don't like doesn't automatically make them bad. If you can manage to hate Gabi, especially with a passion, I'd say she does her job very well making her a good character.
She is a stock character who fits a stereotype or expectation very well to serve a function. Not every character has to be very deep or with an extensive backstory to be considered a good character. She moves the story along and provides emotional payoff. I consider her a good character for the story in the way she is portrayed and utilized.
i hate her but not because she hates eren or killed "...." but because she does stupid things, falco on the other hand is probably my favorite character, he thinks alot more, he always saves her but she just jumps into trouble again. and hes not like mikasa is toward eren, i feel like falco does it better
If Charlie thinks this is a 90%, then part 2 will definitely earn the perfect score. Eren's development as a character will set him apart from most other anime protagonists.
Yeah, this season just ended before Peack AoT. literally the first 5 chapters of part 2 are gonna be so insanely good we will all cum, and after that well, the ending begins.
@@chumbue6537 I thought it wasnt bad from the start, i dont know why twitter users would even send death threats to the studio for that little cgi which isnt even terrible
I mean it isn't really bad compared to what we've seen before from season 2 where the colossal titan looked like it was made by amateur 3d animators and you'll still see these people complaining how trash the anime was for using cgi.
TBH, you can't really get spoiled when the story is this well written. Sure, you know how the story transpires, but the way it's played out is going to be so unexpected it might even shock you more. I go into a lot of things spoiled (not AoT, I did go into JJK, Demon Slayer, and Black clover spoiled until I caught up to the latest chapters), and it doesn't sour the experience at all, it just shocks me HOW the story is navigated to that point and IMO, it gives me a deeper appreciation of the media, it's definitely more fun than experiencing it when it's new like I've been doing these past months (at least imo). For real though, it's actually revealed that Connie is a horcrux and Eren is only doing this to gather the 7 dragon balls so that he can know the secrets of the first SSG and maybe stand a fraction of a chance against the God King Connie, finally ridding the world of Voldemort.
@@Uvuv6969 Well he kinda saved the day and will do it countless more times in the final battle. His titan will develop a really unique and OP power later on.
Eren used to be your typical shonen character right. “ to kill all titans “ to defeat the bad guy. But when he finally learns the truths of the world he lives in and the reality of it, his mind starts to process and develop and he finally realizes that no one is the good guy. He finally realizes everyone is after him.
What i loved the most about Eren being the typical shonen protagonist is that the world wasn't the typical shonen type and because of this he constantly got his shit beaten, kidnapped and those surrounding him injured or killed. It's not only until he accepts his place in the bigger picture (when he tell Armin "humanity now has a trump card") that he stops being one and becomes more efficient, more in tune with the world. Only to have all this destroyed when he realizes the truth of the outside world. Such a great progress
How was Eren a typical shonen charcter he was a freaking monster who threathens his enemy with pain and suffering if u think that's a typical shonen charcter then your dum

The message Isayama is trying to convey is that on all sides of conflict, everybody thinks and truly believes that they are right and the other is wrong. That’s why Eren says him and Reiner are the same because they are both just doing what they have to in order to protect the people they care about. It’s just like Pains cycle of hatred in Naruto, Pain explains it as both sides in war see themself as right and the other as wrong and that the wrong side is trying to threaten their peace and safety so they show no mercy when killing the other side.
The great point of AoT is that by having a mostly "post-apocalyptic" setting up until the big reveal, we are made to accept violence as a legit answer to problems. Then, the reveal hits. Eren isn't exactly justifiable if we apply real world logic, but that's the point, he doesn't come from a normal, realistic, background. We are made to doubt our reject of violence with Eren's POV while, at the same time, everything else shows us how terrible It can be.
Sasha's father sees it differently though. Even as an Eldian "devil", he sees things objectively that both sides are at fault like kids playing war with each other in a big forest. That is why someone has to man up and take responsibility for all these messes but no side is willing to do it. He showed it by sparing Gabi and was even concerned for her wellbeing. That I think is an underrated scene that is being overshadowed by other characters' viewpoints.
Yeah, in comparison, the beast titan suffers the most from the CGI change. I'd guess it's because all the hair really emphasizes the difference, but the face also looks kinda janky and weird. Go watch season two where you first see him, and the fight against levi in season 3 and you will understand better.
I totally agree. That forest fight is the one where I saw CGI as Meh. Rest all scenes with CGI was very good to be honest (especially The Attack Titan was scary af)
@@vvcreative2628 One of the best design choices made in season 4. In the manga\previous seasons, the attack titan looks like a raving lunatic, in the fourth anime season, he actually looks vicious. A great design, especially knowing how eren is in this season.

Whats makes AoT incredible and amazing is how they manage to make people question themselves "Who's in wrong and who's in right?" And the fact that they made Eren the innocent person we loved from the beginning turned into the evil of the story and people still loves him is just wow. Just wow this anime is really one of the kind.
Technically, Eren was evil from the start. The guy was not only an asshole but his goal was always to "kill the titans," not "protect humanity." Two very different goals.
Nah. Eren was always a little shit and just became a bigger shit here. It works for his character, but I've never liked him. He's impulsive and he never grew out of that. His current plan is to end everything rather than find a solution.
@@kreativeillustr8s Episode 6 is a goddamn eye sore. Eren's titan looks awful in pretty much all the scenes. He never blends well, his animation feels off, his punches often don't have any weight (e.g. when he keeps hitting the WHT and all you hear is CLANG CLANG CLANG) and it just generally looks awful. Some CG looked good, mostly on Jaw and Cart titan, the rest was....disappointing. Unsurprising, given how Mappa only had 8 months and many other projects already at that time but still disappointing. 0 sakuga moments in S4.
@@kreativeillustr8s It was okay but deserved to be so much more. Same goes for the OST which was mostly recycled from previous seasons. Yeah man, imagine what they could have done if they had not been forced to crunch for weeks!

As unbelievably good as this first part was. I genuinely believe that this Part 2, is gonna be peak anime in terms of how good writing can actually be in a show. Shits boutta make an Emmy qualifying run I swear.
Ifkr... this show deserves an emmy more than any show nominated in the last 3 years. Unfortunately, even international emmys don't recognise anime as regular television.
Yep Peak Aot is coming now at the start of part 2 to the middle. Everything after that goes a little downhill though in terms of writing and plot convinience.
Gabi, as a character, illustrates the larger theme of “war makes people into monsters” in a much subtler way than Eren and others literally becoming monsters. I love the big Titan fights, but the Gabi arc demonstrates an increase in nuance in the writing for season 4, and I’m here for it
Gabi is also a perfect example of how the audience is being played just as much as the characters in the show. Many fans hate gabi because of what she has done, but if an edlian character who we watched for a while did the same they would be celebrating. She highlights how both sides do not understand that they are the same through the irony that the audience is doing the exact same thing. Her ideals and actions are justified, her friends had been slaughtered and eren would have had the exact same mind set.
Lots of people forget that Gabi is literally a child who's doing what she's been raised to believe. Her character is fantastically written cause you can see her internal struggle when the things she knew suddenly fall apart. Idk I really like her character
I am the guy with the best if both worlds. I recognise that Gabi was a product of her environment and that everything she did up to Paradis Island was perfectly reasonable...... But still F that b*tch.
The script for the final chapter is done and the chapter will be releasing early next month, Thank You Isayama-kun for your hard work for 11 years and 7 months
the worst feeling after finishing aot is just having so much emotional frustration and not having anyone to pinpoint as the villain and blame for everything, like there's just no villain because i understand why the characters did what they did or had to do :(
As much as Eren has changed, he hasn’t really changed at all. He was always monstrous towards his enemies, and now, with the revelation that Marley is his true enemy, he’ll stay monstrous.
100% agree! It's like the biggest twist of all and yet not a twist in the first place. Marley may think that the Eldians' fearless initiative to invade Marley and charge headfirst at a Titan is because they're just the Island Demons, but it's quite the opposite: They're just people, whittled down to where none of them are left fighting except those that know exactly what terrible things a Titan can do, with their eyes set on who started it, with the fighting spirit to end it.
Yeahh good point, even when eren was a kid, he always had these murderous tendencies, the only difference now is it's on a larger scale - he wants to destroy the world and save his people, the island of paradis.
This is something that even manga readers right now are having debates over. Eren is such a complex character that we dont really know what he'll do next but we always know that he'll do whatever it takes to keep moving forward towards his goal. Eren hasn't changed, his knowledge has. And we all do what we think is best given the information we have at the current time.

What i find interesting about the Gabi/Eren comparison is that she is exactly like his younger self exept for one thing. Where Eren was always trying to break free from the walls and did not just believe everything that he was taught about the outside world, Gabi believes absolutely every little detail that she has been tought about the Eldia.
Even better, in Paradis people had been literally brainwashed by psychic powers, while Gabi just believed everything told about her own race, by the people who have oppressed her since childhood. Eren wanted to save humanity from braindead Titans, who eat people just for the sake of it, since they don't even digest people and just vomit them back up again. There are similarities, but the differences are just too much to really compare the two
@@demyx0067The titans are driven by the instinct to maybe eat one of the nine titans to regain their humanity like Ymir did to become the jaw titan. There's still another fantastic dichotomy between Eren and Gabi. Eren was never able to properly fight back in his moments of inciting rage, wheras Gabi had the means to immediatly inflict pain back onto her attackers by shooting Sasha. They're clearly meant to be opposing sides of eachothers coin. Compare the assault of the Colossus and Armored and Pure titans on erens village, to the Attack and Colossus and "Flying Devils of Paradis" assault on Marley. Imagine how similar their perspective of these seemingly mindless and savage monsters must've been.

@@arnobviewer5945 something cant be overrated if people arent rating it too high. I dont see all that much hype around AOT. And before you go and say "but akchually" like a neckbeard, I don't see that many fans of AOT and from literally everyone of my friends who have watched anime, not a single one of them considers AOT their favorite or one of the best. I love Eren's development. He dedicated his entire life to the rage-fueled slaughter of the enemy: Titans. But the revelation that the Titans were never the enemy shakes him to his core. When they finally reach the sea, Eren is the only one not celebrating. Because he fully understands that his enemy was always the world.
ha
Well put.
He understood after kissing Historias hand

Literally. It’s like : “wait, how the fuck did we get here? Oh yeah that’s how.”
It's evolved in a good way. Not like Naruto which became another DBZ and its new characters are so uninteresting compared to the originals.
it went from "local man too angry to die" to complex real-world issues like war, genocide, and propaganda.

Eren is not evil he is trying to save Paradis.
On top of that the cast of characters is absolutely gigantic and pretty much every single one is well developed and entertaining, its also one of the times where I genuinely think the dub is vastly superior to the sub (incredible cast like Troy Baker, and the english just feels more natural to the characters and setting)
Before AoT came along this was pretty much the undisputed best “starter” anime of all time. Just like AoT most of its fans say its not just one of the best animes but one of the best shows ever, period, up there with Breaking Bad and shit.

She is a stock character who fits a stereotype or expectation very well to serve a function. Not every character has to be very deep or with an extensive backstory to be considered a good character. She moves the story along and provides emotional payoff. I consider her a good character for the story in the way she is portrayed and utilized.

@@floppa_9530 yes like literally you dont have to tell me that eren will get the attack titan and destroy the world with the rumbling.
We are made to doubt our reject of violence with Eren's POV while, at the same time, everything else shows us how terrible It can be.
exactly. history is completely subjective. for something to become ‘true’, it only takes someone to believe it
Sasha's father sees it differently though.
The only CGI that was a little jarring in the season was the Beast Titan in the forest. But even then, it didn't pull me out of the episode.

The fact that we have fucking yeagerists in real life just goes to show how deep this anime is

Gabi, as a character, illustrates the larger theme of “war makes people into monsters” in a much subtler way than Eren and others literally becoming monsters. I love the big Titan fights, but the Gabi arc demonstrates an increase in nuance in the writing for season 4, and I’m here for it
Nah fuck Gabi

Yes but the difference is that it isn't personal anymore. Eren isn't angry. or vengeful. He just sees it as a duty now.
I agree I think that’s why they showed eren killing mikasas captors because it’s not because they were Titans but they were his enemy

@@thepotato6729 to eren he did, and to gillard he didnt, there is no wrong, everyone's actions are justified
