    Oh thank goodness for this tutorial,cause I'm just starting my first mixdown on Studio one,and man it's coming out absolutely amazing and I have an external back up that I'd like to store.Your online course really helped me with my workflow I didn't think I could pull this off,the stock plugins are legit where I can saturate/compress my live drums and use room reverb ceilings to get that perfect fat punch.Just blown away by this.♥️🤖⚡

    Nice tip. It's also good to ensure any loops or other sounds from separate locations on the computer are saved as part of the session too. Otherwise Studio One will always try and load them from their original location.
    Something else I do, is use my OneDrive folder (1tb of storage from an Office 365 subscription) which I have on a separate drive, for all my Studio One files. So anytime I record anything, it's automatically backed up to the cloud. The files are synced in the background, so performance is not affected.

    Great tip! I have a question - Do you know if there's a way save to two drives simultaneously? I other words, when you hit save you're saving to two external drives with one of the drives being a primary studio tracks drive and the other being a mirror image of that drive for backup purposes. Thanks!

      Not that I know of but there may be an app for that. You could also use a RAID drive setup that will achieve this

    Hello. Thanks for all the great videos. Can you explain, technically, how moving your songs and related files to a most likely slower external drive improves computer performance? Obviously, you save disk space, but I am struggling to understand how performance is improved. Thanks!

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  5 років тому +1

      Hi Mark, - the drive you would be sending your session to should bot be slower. most computers internal drives are either SD or 7200 RPM mechanical drives. As long as you get a 2nd drive of those specs you will be just fine. By splitting up the duties of one dive running the OS and you host application and the session running on a 2nd drive the overall performance will be better especially if you are running larger session with using lots of plugins / VST instruments. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    I'm a beginner at all of this so bear with me if this is a bad question!
    So once I've properly moved a file/song to my external hard drive, if I want to continue editing/recording/etc., I just open it from the hard drive and keep going at it? And then when I save it from my desktop, it will save on the external?
    And if so, what if I had decided to keep a version on my desktop as well? Will the two sync up or become separate files? (Say I wanted to make edits later but didn't have my external on me, etc.).
    Thanks!
    BTW: You are great at making videos like this! Very clear, to the point, and thorough. :)

    Hi David, once i have my files to a song transferred to and external hard drive then deleted off my computers drive, How do i know when my external hard drive is plugged in that i am able to open my session back up with out the files being missing? Do i have to configure the location settings on my DAW so it allows it to read my external hard drive to open up my files? Hopefully all that made since? My computers drive is almost almost full and need to make space. Thank you -Caleb

    going to buy one right now? question, I have a song thats very laggy and cant handle all the plugins? it popping and distorting. Will this fix that. Also im getting a new internal harddrive SSD for my operating system and the program itself.

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  6 років тому

      The popping and cracking has to do with your "device block size" in the preferences window. Raise that to the highest number possible. If that does not work then its more than likely your processor speed, especially if you are running an older computer. may be time for and upgrade

    • @quincypinola839

      I have AMD A10 quad core with 3.7Ghz processing speed. I have a Gigabyte motherboard, 24 gigs of ram and a WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM. I had this put together from scratch. I Just bought a Samsung 960 PRO Series - 1TB PCIe NVMe - M.2, which is super small. I'm going to have this installed. How fast dose the processor have to be?? What would you recommend. Also is the Iztope plugins and a couple otherts that take alot of CPU, It Only one song and I have the block size all the way up and im still hitting 98 cpu. My other song is at 70cpu but runs very smooth

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy

      not unless you have it backed up on an external drive

    • @markroller1804
      @markroller1804 5 років тому

      Check the trash for sure. They should be there unless you dumped it already. Otherwise, if you have not written a lot of files since you deleted, you may be able to recover them with a file recovery program. The file locations will be over-written, eventually, as you create more file (by recording or otherwise). Last resort: for a hefty cost, you may be able to take the drive in for professional recovery. Good luck.

    Thanks David, Ok 3 Things here...#1; I use an External Hard Drive, will elaborate here,,,#2 Youre from NY right? Thats why Im glad I mentioned here about B&H because Thats one of my MAIN "go to places" for Studio gear...& #3...ALSO Please Mention The Vital Importance with The External Hard Drive The Vital Importance of A POWER CONDITIONER...A couple months ago or so, I got my FURMAN M-8Dx...& Up to then, believe it or not...I never had a problem of a Storm sweeping thru and messing with my Electric in the middle of being in My Studio...BECAUSE, when It stormed, I Knew Not to be having my Gear on, and so I would close it down if it Stormed until it passed...period! Well the other day, It was Storming Outside & I didnt quite realize it, becuase I was so Deep in concentration on my Work....all of a Sudden, boom, the power Surged & shut off for a couple seconds, came back on & it did it Again a few seconds later...My PC Warned me "Now On Battery Power"...I Looked at my FURMAN..It was Still On & Running & Providing Electric to Everything Else but at the same time PROTECTED My PC..Nothing went down or offline..My Monitors (both Video & Audio)were working still with out even One Hickup...Everything was Fine! The Storm Passed as quick as it came thru...My Equipment was Good!..ok Next back to #1 ; Yea I was just checking out your video on this because i wanted to double check on this. It will Help Anyone that, Everyone that records, on any DAW...I see that STUDIO ONE DAW resembles REAPER DAW... I use Reaper... I just wanted to make sure that what Ive been doing is absolutely correct, & confirm via your video & knowledge, that what ive been doing now since around the beginning of December 2016 is Correct. Yes & I have been & am I see as the result. You see I got a WD My Book 3TB External Hard Drive from B&H Pro Audio (NYC) in December for This Very Reason. To Run Everything I Can from The Ext HD & to Free Up My 1TB of Memory from my Computer ( C drive & D drive combined total)..which is what I did & I Deleted alot from both internal drives, and they both were nearly full...I dont hardly run anything into my D Drive anymore & only whats necessary from my OS C drive...What I Love about the External Hard Drive besides is that It Backs Everything Up that I have... AND That I Can ADD As many External Hard Drives simply via a USB that does Not cost my computer ANY Memory to do so, not even with additional external USB Ports, which I have 2. THANKS David for Reading my "Mini-booklet" to you here. :)

      Hi Topcat - Thanks for the comment and I agree with everything you mention about power conditioners and USB back up drives. You want to be safe than sorry. I think I may do a video discussing this topic because you are correct, it's something that most of us dont think of until you have an issue and loose data or have a piece of gear wiped out! Thanks for the video idea.

    I got my external hard drive set up in studio one in the preferences and it's saving my songs fine there so I don't have to use my cpu storage up. However now when I try to reopen the saved song I'm getting the missing files error that you mentioned here. I'm not sure why this would happen being it was saved directly to the external hard drive from the start. If you have any tips on why this may be its appreciated? Crazy thing is it did not happen on the first couple songs I recorded and reopened but a couple days ago it started doing this missing files nonsense.

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  8 років тому +1

      Make sure that your media folder is in the same directory as your .song file. if it's not, then thats why your getting that missing files message

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 8 років тому

      My media folder is on a couple and still won't on others it's not. Should I create my own media folder instead of using the default one think? On one song I suppppsedly located the files in a media file and clicked on each one and then they came off the missing list and looked like I had it as they went back onto their respective tracks but then to my surprise they were still blank when I tried to play them. Crazy maybe I'll have to see about the geek squad for this one or just use my CPUs storage up and then keep deleting song files as I get too low. Thanks for all your help. I'm just finishing up the last tenth video on mixing made easy and then I'm definitely picking up more of your tutorials as they've helped a lot.

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  8 років тому +1

      Good stuff Larry. Always remember that the .sog file and media folder need to be in the same directory. When you create a new song Studio One will create these folders for you. Do not separate them or you will end up having the "missing file" issue

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 8 років тому

      I think I have it now. What I'm doing differently is going to save to new folder in studio one instead of save as. So far no trouble with missing files when reopening a saved song this way. Maybe that was it? Thanks

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 8 років тому +1

      Ah after just rewatching this video I see that's what you did here, "save to new folder!" Not sure why I missed that the first time. I was always using save as when I was using my cpu to save originally. You're the man. Got it going now finally. This turned out to be one of the hardest speed bumps for me in starting my home studio so far from knowing nothing at all about sound engineering.. Believe it or not, lol. Came from strictly drumming.
