The one thing I always found a bit over the top was the total lack of defense in the fights and that horrible over blown punching sound fx. That was always ridiculous.
It's not boxing...it's CINEMATIC boxing. Naturally the emphasis will be on aggression. Real life boxing is more defensive in nature...that's why so many people find boxing to be boring. Ask most people to name a good fight, and they'll select one that's very offensive in nature(like one of the Hagler fights back in the 80's).
The fight scenes in the director's cut of Rocky IV didn't seem that different to me. They were both good. The biggest improvement was the scenes he took out of the movies, like the robot scenes. They just never belonged in there to begin with. They also aged very poorly.
The robot scenes made perfect sense. If you were nouveau riche back during the 80's, how would you amuse yourself? I mean, if you were basically a nice, wholesome family like the Balboas? A gift like that for a grumpy misanthrope like Paulie makes a perfect practical joke....I mean, what do they have to lose? I've known many people of lesser means who indulged in such gag gifts over the decades, buying things that were impractical because they found it amusing...once the novelty wears off, such items usually just wind up in storage. How much MORE true would this be for rich people? Stallone included it because, back then, his confidence was unassailable. He took it out because he's been brought to his knees. Very sad.
@T Griffin I disagree. It may not have been unrealistic to have the robot under the guise that rich people tend to overindulge. Since it's not on drugs or luxury cars, mine as well be on a robot servant. However, it didn't make sense in the plot of the movie. It offered nothing and didn't move the story forward. Removing the robot scenes and adding a couple of longer serious dialogs with his wife and Apollo made a lot more sense. Those robot scenes didn't age well either.
@@frommatorav1 It did an ideal job of establishing that the Balboa family was still intact and doing well. Affluent, healthy, and happy(aside from Paulie, of course, for whom griping and complaining seem to constitute his norm). Stallone seemed to want to make this point, without belaboring it. I'm not saying there weren't other ways he could have done so...but I had no problem with this particular way.
Sly if it aint broke dont fix it, there are reasons you cut those scenes out, when you watch this new cut you see why the OG cut is superior. Put the time and money to a 4k with extras and all the goodies. Hell fix Rocky 5 , that needs lots of help. Although I will say this , I think the funeral scene is better in the new cut, that shoulda been left.
Well said. I do like two of Adrian's deleted scenes, but he could have simply reinserted those, and it wouldn't have affected the running time but by 3 or 4 minutes...You'd still have basically the same movie, but I think those could have offered a slight improvement. What sickens me is what he did to the EXISTING footage...he altered things that simply make no sense. If you know the original cut, you can pinpoint change after change that...like you said...were trying to fix something that wasn't broken...Stallone should have had more self respect.
I don't know how you guys can watch those robot scenes and not think they belong on the cutting room floor. They have not aged well and don't add to the story, but the extra dialog with Adrian and Apollo, do.
So now it's made to look like Rocky tried to stop the fight but was a second late so he wouldn't look so bad? That's what it felt like to me. Anyways, if Apollo surviving would have meant not making the Creed movies i would have been ok with it.
Apollo dying in the 4th installment was shocking which made the film work even better !
Sylvester is the best of all times keep it up love I love you so much best in the world ❤❤❤❤❤❤

It's a movie filmed in the 80s so of course it's a bit overdone.
I’d really like to see and critique your feature film. But until you come out with one….
@@fenechtheentertainerd8918 Yeah....whatever dude. I didnt realize you had worked on the Rocky movies yourself. Lol.

3:12 If he had to do it again maybe not have Rocky move Apollo's head after the injury. THAT'S probably what killed him!

What brand of ring is he wearing
Does anybody know what brand of ring he’s wearing???
Nah Apollo needed to die it was the right decision
wonder if how he got himself to make rocky movies
I agree the character Apollo shouldnt have been killed more so disabled, Stallones exactly right it would have been a lot better.
he could of continue with creed
Original is much better
wonder if he actually killed him
He had to otherwise we wouldn't have been as invested in the film to really enjoy the song "Survivor - No Easy Way Out" to this day.
