      why did it die

    • @invudontseeme
      @invudontseeme 4 роки тому +5

      @@QPham-nz5po He never mentioned, but my assumption would be plant fertilizers. Many of them contain copper which is lethal to invertebrates, which was mentioned in the videos. If you have a crab tank, best not dose ferts for your plants unless you are 120% certain it contains absolutely no copper.

      Carbon Dog so you could dose easy green, I think it has zero copper because aquarium co-op says plant and invert safe

    Still new to the hobby. I can’t wait till I’m skilled enough to care for something like this. I think I could right now but I’d like a lil more experience till I invest. Thank you for the vid!!

    I bought two of these. Any updated info? I found that if you mix green beans, spinach with a few algea wafers with geletan into an ice cube tray they'll eat that up. They seemed very territorial and one managed to climb out despite the lid. Eventually the one that was left burrowed under an ornament and then it was like looking for a leprechaun.

    I'm a little late to the party I know but I was wondering if you needed any water currents for these guys (besides what's provided by the filter)

    Yeh one question. Hey Gus, water is to be filled in tank like normal fish tank. As they are crustaceans the like to bask on rocks. Like tortoise 🐢. Or the tank shd be 1/4th filled. 🙏

    I found a tiny local species of crawfish in my Dad's drying pond. Kept it alive in a tank and was not disappointed. It was the size of a pinto bean when I found it now it's huge. I'm going to try a pom pom crab next.

    I have a 29g tank but it has no heater, sand and small rock substrate; and four very large goldfish I’m afraid the goldfish would bother the crab. I could heat this tank if needed.
    i have a 5g tank no heater, sand substrate, planted, with two mystery snails, and only 6 orange shrimp.
    I have a 2g tank heated some plants, sand substrate, a few trumpet snails
    I have a 10g tank heated with blue shrimp, sand substrate, heavily planted, two mystery snails, some trumpet snails.
    Which tank is best for the Pom Pom Crab??

    Idk much of about fresh water pom pom crabs, but I know that the salt water ones are called pom pom crabs because they gram sea anemones and wave them around like pom poms or boxing gloves. They eat what gets in them as nd use the stinging to protect themselves from being eaten. I would guess that if yhere is a fresh variety it would be simular.

    Does it need other crabs or will one be fine with just fish in a tank with it? Like would it get depressed and die or something?

    I have a 5 gal with a small school of neon tetra, like 8 of them. Couple of cherry shrimp, and Java moss/couple other plants.
    I have not been using any plant fertilizer since I did a deep clean about 2 weeks ago and added the tetra. My water is naturally very hard, and I have maintained a breeding population of shrimp for the last few years.
    Do you think my setup will support a few crabs to add to the diversity?

    Hey Gus, thanks for your video. I am scouring the internet to try to understand why our Pom Pom are dying. We have a 10G planted tank with community fishes, loaches, bee & crystal shrimps. I have never added fertilizer for my planted. The substrate we use is fluval volcanic soil and a 1/3 section has been renovated with white sand coz I think they like to burrow? Anyway, we got our 3 crabs about a month ago and they were very lively and running about all day but recently they started dying and I am trying to understand why. The first died maybe 5 days ago, then another couple days later and today I found the last guy acting very lethargic so for now I have put him in a breeder box.
    The others seem to be doing fine and the water parameters seem okay.
    Really didn't mess with the tank otherwise. Only thing "new" is I added 1/8 of a piece of almond leaf and I started feeding them the Hakari Crab Cuisine instead of the sinking pellets for fish.
    Any help would be appreciated. I really like these guys and would like to understand more on how to keep them safe and healthy.

      from my experiences, new soil could kill them since the new soils could have some chemical stuff even after rinsing them. realized need to use old soils that's been in the tank for a while.

    I just got a pom pom yesterday for my very large planted vase aquarium (6gal) and this morning I found it lethargically crawling across my floor right before I have to leave for work. I don't know why I never thought about them escaping, but I'm used to shrimp that just stay in the tank like told them to. So hoping it hasn't reattempted it's stupid escape before I head home on a lunch break to rig some sort of lid...crabs🤦‍♂️

    • @shannarafryer3111
      @shannarafryer3111 11 місяців тому

      Shrimp are pretty notorious escapees too but nowhere near the level or crabs and crayfish. They’ll escape through places you didn’t know you had and climb in ways you didn’t know possible. I had crabs that would climb up the wire of the filter and latch on to the lid, thankfully it was escape proof but I learned my lesson then. Always make sure there is an escape proof lid

    Vampire crabs don't eat your plants, do they? They also look cooler, but they require terrestrial space for burrowing, right?

    • @jennifermc5860
      @jennifermc5860 3 роки тому

      Vampires are terrestrial, yes. They spend more time on land than in the water.

    5 gallon tank. Never seen my PomPom Crab, always hidden, then I put in a little of Aqueon plant food.. Soon noticed the crab is out and about, which is odd, next day its clearly dying. Both Aqueon and the seller of crabs should put a "little" effort to warn the public. A 3 word sentence, is all it takes.

    I was confused when I was looking this up. I thought “don’t pom pom crabs need sea anemones? And aren’t sea anemones saltwater creatures?” Then I noticed that the pom poms are just tufts of hair on their claws.

    • @SlimSevernick
      @SlimSevernick Рік тому +2

      there are two types of pom pom crabs. "freshwater pom pom crab" and "seawater pom pom crab". although they have same names, they're different. the pom poms in this video are freshwater. and seawater pom pom crabs are striped pattern with holding sea anemone.
