Today I was so excited to receive 6 new additions to my fishroom in some Darwin Freshwater Crabs.
These are a dwarf crab that reach a size of approximately 6cm across the carapace, live in full freshwater and enjoy time in and out of the water.
I have been fascinated with these guys and will keep you updated on their progress.

That's such a funny headline.
Bro literally got some Darwin Freshwater Crabs a week ago and I've been looking for a good video on them, but they're so under-documented. And now this video comes out, how good!
Edit: lol I also got mine from AllFish2U
How did you go with the crabs, would love some info?
Yes im thinking of getting crabs thank you very helpful and not complicated.
LOL I am 2:01 minutes in and already have to comment! You are sooooo excited and it shows!! Love it 😁
They are so cool! I love your genuine excitement about getting them 😊
Thank you so much 😁
Hey Blake! I love fresh water crabs! Years ago I managed to get some fresh water crabs from lake Malawi. They were tons of fun, though way bigger than these guys. I hope these guys become more available. Thanks so much for showing them and also congrats on crossing 17K!
Thanks mate 👍
This is so cool! Can’t wait to see more video updates on them 😍
Thanks ! ☕️
They’re amazing! The excitement is real😂 Really looking forward to the progress with this tank🤙✌️❤️
Please do more on micro anything. I have several small tanks. Less than 5 gal
Crustaceans are a lot of fun, very interesting🦀 congrats mate🙂👍🏻💯⭐️
That scape looks perfect for them
I did a job in Kunanurra a few years back and when it rained these guys and some fish not sure what they were just appeared the next day in the trenches we dug miles from the sea and hundreds of metres from the creek
online it says that they dig burrows in sediment and clay that are up to a metre deep in the wild to retain moisture in drought. I'm sure they don't need a metre depth in captivity as they always have access to water but I don't think the sand is enough.
They have made some interesting tunnels already
They are cute. Both crabs and mudskippers are on my wish list.
Nice one Blake! So glad I was right! *Grimmwolf*
Hehe
I have been thinking about getting some too. I think Chris has 3 left in stock last I checked.
Snatch them up!!
i saw the title and was like were finally getting a blakes aquatic OF 😜
🤣🤣 onlyfins coming soon
The title got me good😂😂😂
🤣
Super cool video I love your crabs! Recently, I finally found bamboo shrimp locally and I got the same feeling I was so excited! Felt like a kid again!
Yeah its surreal!
Awesome! Basically the Aussie vampire crab! Ridiculously expensive though $50 a pop!
I knowww bro i’m looking to set some up but I can’t find any cheap crabs here in Australia
Blake’s got crabs 🦀
Thanks for sharing your excitement Blake. I’m excited to watch a video to try to learn. I hope I can get one of my four tanks set up to have some Darwin freshwater crabs 🦀.
Looks great blake
Really interesting. Looking forward to following your journey with these.
Interested to know what you're feeding them as well.
Thank you for sharing 🙂
They ate frozen brine last night, experimenting with a few differenr foods
I walked into a store that had them but i love my fish too damn much and wouldn't like to risk them coexisting, same with Dwarf Crayfish, they are still killers in the end lmao
Great video. Would be good to see you setup a Father Fish aquarium. Search him on UA-cam. Would be good to see your take on it. Cheers
really cool
His reaction to unboxing 😂
What about a heater?
Great video
the title + thats what she said?
how could I not haha, cheers mate
Do you Fidler crabs or other freshwater crabs live in called aquarium water? Do you think the air tube and a vase idea would work for creating that underwater habitat regarding the “dry” area the crab requires?
I just got crabs too! They’re very cute I hope they like the habitat I made for them 😊 I was expecting them to be tiny too., but mines massive 😂😂😂
Good luck!!
What do you feed your crabs?
You got crabs 😅
looks great. so happy you got em. can't wait to see the updates. held em yet?
Too scared 🤣
The thumbnail brought me here
🤣
So cool, glad they didn’t cut the bags😳Temp they need to be at?
Tropical temps, 25 deg or so
nice they are cute
i just got a sawagani crabs. Do they need a shore built-in the terrarium or can it be filled with all water?
omg i was worried thought you were going to have to shave everywere lol
🤣
well said last comments !
Did the site provide the scientific name for them?
Nice thumbnail/title! 😂 And adorable crabs! 😍 🦀
*QUESTION* Have you experienced any settling or sinking of the sand? I have the hardest time in my mudskipper tank.. with all the climbing they do, and the water changes I do, it just won't stay stationary! 😕
I think it helps a lot that i put those media bags under there, might be worth stabilising with some large rocks of something
NICE! Who's selling these crabs? Never seen them before
Allfish2u mate, mentioned it in the beginning 👍
great setup and great video Blake! i mistook you for John Wayne Gacy! you look a lot alike
I get it I have to go on a diet 🤣 👍
@@BlakesAquatics no thats not what i meant..im sorry it came across mean
Can’t wait to see everything fully grown out in a few months. Can these breed in freshwater too?
Yes apparently they can
Can we please get an update?! If there has already been one can I get a link to it. Very curious for more information. A species information video would be great.
Did they survive and breed? Were they active. Were they fish safe?
Hi, they are extreme escape artists and even though I had a tight lid weighed down with a rock i would fond them one by 1 on the ground. I even found one out on my driveway outside one day
@@BlakesAquatics Wow! Thats wild! Sorry to hear they didn’t work out. Would love to a tank for them but am a bit unsure without more information available. Thanks for the reply appreciate it.
Where do you get your backing film from, pls?
Just ebay, search privacy film or frosted window
Do they need land or are they fully aquatic?
Fully aquatic
Hey I could use some advice!
I really want freshwater crabs, I’ve done research for 2 years on how to keep them. I have everything I need. Except I can’t find a single local store that sells freshwater crabs in my area. Every store that sells them is way too far out for me.
I want to order online but the issue - the only times it can be shipped to me is during my work hours.
Any advice? Is there a website that will allow me to schedule my shipment so I know I’ll be home when it arrives? I can’t find any website that accommodates this… hoping someone here knows of one!
Thanks!!!
Tricky situation to be in. Not likely, best bet would be to get a delivery with authority to leave and order in a season where the weather isnt too hot or too cold and just hope they are ok on the doorstep for a few hours id say
i heard this guy has worms too
PRAWNY! Member numero uno himself. Hope you are well mate
I got crabs once. And I’ll tell ya this. It don’t matter if your in church testifying about the love of Jebus - when those little guys bite - you will stop everything and scratch like mad. Just saying.
🤣
