Astonishing........ Stryper is simply incredible ! This is the best Sabbath cover I've ever heard. This band is overlooked, under-appreciated, misunderstood, & rockin the world anyway! What a tremendous job, this is tremendously impressive. RJD, would have appreciated this tune.
the devils sign that he used a lot was said to come from his catholic grandmother. not that she invented or anything, but, that it was used by italian catholics to scare off the evil eye. I could be wrong, I´m not a theologist, but to me it seems Dio was pretty close to christianity. it doesnt matter, of course, he was still one of the best rock singers Ive heard, so to me his personal beliefs or personality could be anything, it doesnt change that fact
Hell yes. This is great. Stryper are awesome musicians and I knew Michael Sweet would knock it out of the ballpark, but he even exceeded my expectations. He does an absolutely killer job on this. I've always loved his soaring, crystal clear, powerful tenor voice. Amazing.
This ROCKS. These guys are still a viable band. No one can truly emulate the late great RJD. The great thing about this cover is Michael Sweet put his interpretation on it without doing an injustice to the original. 👍👍👍👍
How is this song about a bad thing? This song is about having the choice to do what you want with your life, and how life can become its own heaven or hell based on your actions.
I think they did a great job with the song.. and it shows the depth of thought put into the original creators of the song.. it is not demonic.. it tells the truth of the choice we all are given!!
Although, we are all used to the heavier Dio version, once Styper gets started, the intensity does pick up, and they are tremendously proficient musicians..also ,Dio was not an atheist..quite the contrary, he was a deeply spiritual man...just not too religious. He was always looking for divine answers to so many things in life, and like most seekers, he was always looking for deeper answers to questions concerning existence.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
Just to correct someone here, Stryper got signed to Enigma, and once record execs saw the lyrics to their songs, sued the band to get out of the contract. They had no standing. Stryper has never been a gimmick band.

Black Sabbath was never satanic. Stryper with their own material were more preachy and didn't induce serious thoughts like Tourniquet did, but they covered this one -- I think Dio is smiling from heaven when Michael Sweet is singing one of Dio's darkest songs with Black Sabbath. They shouldn't done the all four members doing vocals though with this though because it takes away from the dark tone of the song.

Rob Rock's version is better in my humble opinion.
