- This is the song "Carry On Wayward Son" covered by the band "Stryper" off their 2011 album "The Covering." The song was originally written by "Kansas" off their "Carry On Wayward Son" album.
The Covering is released February 15th, 2011, but limited copies were sold on the official Stryper website in mid-January. The album has 13 songs in total. 12 of them are covers and 1 is an original Stryper song entitled 'God.'
Lyrics:
{Refrain
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
{Refrain
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
{Refrain
No!
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
The center lights around your vanity
But surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry (don't you cry no more)
SUPERNATURAL 😭😭😭
Supernatural's theme song is from the original by Kansas.
Every time I hear this song I think of Supernatural
This whole album ROCKS! Stryper is AWESOME!
I just saw Stryper at the Mercury Ballroom in Kentucky, they were amazing! Love them!
I saw them almost 30 years ago... That's so awesome they still play.
Im blown away of how amazing this is.... Stryper is amazing! Even their covers!
Thanks for posting this. Stryper was one of the many Christian groups that brought me to Messiah. btw. This song is actually from the "Leftoverture" album. Kerry Livgren wrote most of the album while he was on his search for God. Later, Livgren left Kansas and became a Christian artist and did some preaching. Again, thx for posting :)
It's ALL about musical influences !!!!
This is now officially one of my top 3 covers. You guys are absolutely awesome, a flawless tribute to Kansas. Thank you guys, just thank you =D
This is the best cover ever! The original was perfectly kept but with extra energy and heart. Kansas would appreciate how this turned out.
Kerry Livgren just expressed appreciation for this version on his Facebook page. Pretty cool.
i dont care shit what posers say a true metal head jut will enjoy good music and this shit is fuking a bad ass redention
I am impressed with how they really stayed with the true sound on all of the covers.I would gladly pay 40.00 to see this and more in any club.
robert dimartino No, you suck.
Their cover of Jesus Is Just Alright is the only one that isn't very true to the original, but still an awesome cover!

Have you heard Rachel Rachel's version?

@spawn70 That's awesome - I love that show. Me and my wife watch it all the time LOL. I like this version of the song too.
Wow, I'm very impressed!
Saw them three times going back to 1987. Awesome talent. Took my kids to see them in 2004. They loved it. Truly awesome band.
great job
Love Stryper and I'm a fan of the TV show Supernatural. Best of both worlds!❤❤❤ This is awesome!
I'd like to hear Stryper do a cover of Kansas' "Caught In The Crossfire" and "Relentless", two Christian songs that really rock.
superb rendition!
I like it! But then again Stryper is always a good choice :-). They along w/ BarrenCross, Bloodgood, WhiteHeart, WhiteCross, Petra etc got me going in the metal forum. :-)
#Kansas proudly!! Awesome cover by #MichaelSweet #Stryper 🔥 Holy Fire 🔥 Pure Rock 🎸🔥💪🏻
HOLY GOD, awesome , Makes me want to sleep until the new season of Super Natural Starts
And your On Fire cover's awesome too
OMG i don't have words you did again!
And they can play this live, unlike some other bands who dolled it up on ProTools in the studio. Kudo's Stryper fellas!!

Michael Sweet and the rest of the guys in Stryper did an amazing job with this song I have never heard this song remade and they kicked butt doing this may the Lord be with all you guys in Stryper
some days i go from iron maiden to floyd to stryper to Willie all in one day to the extremes. if i claim to be a wiseman it surely means that i don't know.
yeah I love Willie Colon
This song was written for Stryper....they covered it well!
Love his voice
In every music
just came to see the comments for "the covering". comments are turned off on the official stryper page.
Best cover of this song ever!! Michael Sweet can sing just a little bit. ;-)
This versión is very good
Incrível
Woooow, Stryper are very very gooodddd!!!
SO MUCH FREAKIN WIN! They totally nailed it.
Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. in the end does matter.
The Kansas album was called "LEFTOVERTURE" not carry on wayward son.
This is much better than Rachel Rachel's cover. There's nothing better than the original, though. Even though Stryper is one of my top 10 favorite bands, Kansas is my favorite.
Yes, it is better, but Rachel Rachel was pretty good when I saw them live in the early 90's. She did mess up the lyrics though.
I saw the video with Kerry Livgren playing guitars with them. That song doesn't work with a female singer. A woman saying "If I claimed to be a wise MAN it surely means that I don't know" just sounded humorous and lost the meaning. Its the first time I ever thought the universal use of man didn't make sense.
I really enjoy Rachel Rachel's a lot, especially the video with Kerry Livgren. It is really well done and has the original feel of Kansas. I think Kerry doing a guest shot in it put his seal of approval on it.
Rachel Rachel's Dust to Diamonds also has quite a Kansas feel, and seems to be the answer to Kerry's pre-Christian song Dust in the Wind.
Jam!
It may be just me but as a fan of many bands, five finger death punch, all that remains and trivium among others i wish stryper would get more credit
maybe a reference to icarus as well...while we are in the realms of fiction and creative licence for song writing.
you can tell they set the song in time with a click track like every band does now a days but we are all familiar with the original being played out of time
Wow
nostalgia
Amazing!! Is this available at Spotify?
To be honest, this doesn't sound different enough from the Kansas version for me to say that one is better than the other. So... both rock! XD
Oh my fucking god this is absolutely amazing!!!!!
@@robbdimartino007 I'm with you . Weak when the vocals come in . Drums don't sound good on this track. I di8g On Fire and Blackout though !
Kick ass Stryper!!! Great job...guitars are bitchin fantastic!!
I don't care who plays this song...anyone else think of 'Supernatural' when they hear it???
It was originally off of Kansas Leftoverture album... Written by Kerry Livgren...
You're right!
Who then had a solo career.
This is just fucking epic. SUBSCRIBED!
How would you know how an angel looks like? Even if they'd exist, maybe they're ugly.
Aqui é MOPHÓÓBICCSS MEUS AMIGOS
spawn70 I do! i totally think of supernatural when I hear this lol
Hmmm... this song made me think of the story of the prodigal son.
Michael Sweet and Stryper are superb. Best than the original
@anewdayproductions sphincter says what?
@NoneBuriedDeeper you ever heard of a seraph?
And EVERYONE knows angels quit wearing Members Only jackets in the late 80s.
Zulgurub have read it but didn't find anything about wings and floating circles (that is just in cartoons XD).
Saw your comment (though it's been removed) and I understand what you mean. :)
@anewdayproductions i could, but playing you like a gameboy is way too much fun...
I had this original album by Kansas... God had me destroy my whole secular record collection... It hurt... but I did what God wanted me to do.... Literally hundreds of dollars worth of secular music... collectors items.. I wonder... why record this song... no judgement here.. just curious. It is a fabulous song, I thought then.. and Stryper you do a bang up job here... it's almost like God giving me back some of what I was willing to sacrifice for Him. Thanks Stryper...
God does not care about your music collection.... He cares about your heart.
Derisive and derogatory comments aside, is played better than anyone commenting upon it can. just a thought.
People on the internet might as "wel" use spellcheck.
there are definitely two types of angels mentioned in the Bible that have wings: Cherubim (Exodus 25:20; Ezekiel 10) and Seraphim (Isaiah 6). Cherubim and Seraphim are two types of angels, possibly the two highest orders of angels. So, this much is clear, some angels do have wings.
@Thomas99Anderson Mr. Yngwie Malmsteen covered it as well... but he gets a lot of criticism for having very similar songs/solos, so I'm not sure you'd like it personally.
is this the cover? this is better so i think kansas cover this;)
@anewdayproductions okay, thanks.
@paddypace seriously!?!?!?!? - "when they appear before men"?? really???
