A Hoarder's 1st Basement Cleaning EVER
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лют 2020
- In the middle of 2018, my Grandpa passed away. Upon his passing, he turned over the farm to my Dad, my brother, and I. The farm consisted of a house, fields, buildings, and an unlimited supply of junk. After spending an entire summer cleaning the main floors on the house, I decided to tackle the basement. There was only one issue; the 1917 farm house’s basement has not been cleaned in over 40 years.

Haha just so you all know I'm just really scared of spiders....all the comments on the subject are making me LOL. My night is made. Thanks everyone! 😂🙌🏼
God Bless you
You are awesome girl, I'm 60and I want to shout out kids (young adults) are amazing these days
Nave I hate spiders too! My hibbys in charge of spider removal at our house 🏡, lol 😂
You're a real trooper, Nave!! I would have jumped a LOT more than you did!!
I'm guessing Cole hasn't told you about his pet tarantula then???
I finaly realized why I watch this even though i dont farm have no intention to farm or truly care about farming. You are very productive, positive, and upbeat and it makes me hate life less.
MrPowerpen glad to help 😇
I agree MrPowerpen. And, by not caring about farming I mean I have no interest in being a farmer myself, though I am incredibly grateful that other people are farmers. Anyway, seeing Cole be so productive actually lights a fire Inter my butt to be productive too. Keep up the good work, Cole!
MrPowerpen dude same... same
I’m with you there,
I’m with you there!
You know that part when you said: "anything I don't want in the closets taking up space will come down here into this room," you do realize your grandfather said that to himself about a hundred years ago. It's a slippery slope my friend, a slippery slope.
That can be procrastinated to the next generation
Some things are better left alone
I was thinking like, Christmas decorations, seasonal items, stuff like that lol
toronto.quinn Yes he definitely has a different mindset and has put hours into decluttering
I just looked at the closet in my spare bedroom and thought the same thing!!!
I’ve been a trim/finish carpenter for 20 years, that is some of the most beautiful woodwork I’ve seen. Good on you for appreciating beautiful craftsmanship.
"I'm lazy, I'm a farmer" that is definitely not you, my friend. You are an inspiration to us all.
Paul D Mills Yes he is the opposite of lazy!
I was thinking a similar thing. “Cole, you may be a lot of things, but lazy isn’t one of them!”
If he thinks he's lazy, he really hasn't be around much. I've literally seen people so lazy that they will leave a TV going all night because they couldn't reach the remote to turn it off. I've seen people dirty a dish and then leave it in the sink until mold grows on it and longer. Ever seen stainless steel rust? If not, leave it in a sink of water for a few months along with food scraps and dirty dishes. I'm a tad lazy, but not that lazy, but Cole makes me look super lazy lol.
It's that good central plains work ethic. If you got time to lean, you got time to clean. Go get em Cole! Nebraska native here. Hi neighbor! Love what you've done with the place.
A lazy farmer doesn't last long in farming! I farm 900 acres and the work never ends...
This dude is such a hard worker I wish I had half his motivation and mentality
Slicersix Eg I'm nothing special, I just want to make a difference!
This channel is so wholesome, I’m not even a farmer but this is really entertaining 😂
Sir Succ III Thank you!
@@ColeTheCornstar you are awesome person. May God bless you 🙏
Once it is cleaned and mopped, I'd paint all the walls and floors with Drylok to keep out water. I'd also do a radon test.
I was thinking a nice epoxy finish, but drylok definitely.
As long as the grade of the yard is good shouldn't need to worry about water
@@cocopublicnews6766 You're forgetting the house is 100 years old! We don't know what was done around the house! Case in point, Cole had to lay tile to drain part of the front yard because it was swampy! Lord knows, what other surprises there are!
Drylok holds the water in the foundation and will cause it to erode over time. Gotta start from the outside in. Dig back and tar the foundation filling any cracks making it water tight. install French drain at the base and back fill.
Ahhh, to be young and strong and have the will and desire and ability to clean a basement AND have a lovely helper. I was that guy once.
Beautiful old farmhouse, your grandparents would be so proud of how you've taken care over looking after it..
Grandpa is rolling over in his grave as you throw out all his stuff that might be useful one day
Never seen such a hard working humble young man. Keep it up champion you're an inspiration.
I'm voting Nave girlfriend of the year. Anyone that will help you clean up that basement is a real keeper.
A man that cleans is AMAZING!🤗👍😂
Now his wife and mother of his 2 kids
“this is gonna be the storage room” cut to 80 years time your grandchild roasting you on youtube for being a hoarder
Ha ha he'll wonder why I have all these old computers stacked up.
Grandpa in heaven nooooo nu stuff what are you doing down there
Lol! 😂
Nave is such a good sport helping!!
She's a keeper, Cole. And pretty darned quick on her feet when startled.
When more than a half a million people show up to watch a guy and his girl clean out a hoarder's basement, you're doing something that is so very right with the world.
'Pitter patter; let's get at 'er!' Is probably the best thing I have heard all week! 🤣
What a beautiful house. Made when craftsmanship was king.
Cole, PLEASE tell me you aren't going to paint over any of that beautiful wood. I'm new to your channel and haven't yet gone back and watched other videos so if you covered this in another video I'm sorry about that but it just occurred to me that you have some of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen.
@@maryannanderson7517 welcome to cornstar country
@@maryannanderson7517 I believe he's keeping it
Consider painting the basement walls though!
She's a keeper Cole.
I need a motivated person like this in my life!
I love watching you guys clean up that old house. It's a beautiful house and I'm sure your grandparents are watching over you from heaven helping you in spirit.
The basement of your old house is amazingly great shape !! Cole, you living in a beautiful piece of history . I am so glad you are taking such good care of your family home.♡ I watched your house cleaning video orginally, that is how I found you. I am now addicted ..lol. hugs to you and the family and thank you for the house cleaning video.
Cole, seeing your clip and tour of your house, reminded me of something I would like to share with everyone. Should you ever move into a place where the bathtub or sinks are stained or just really dirty, just fill them with hot water and pour in 2 bottles of CLR (Calcium, lime and rust) go back in a couple of hours drain and rinse. You might need to wipe it down.
Good for you for restoring your Grandfather's house! That's a lot of time, money, and TLC . Well done Cole! Cheers
You know you have a special skill when it comes to editing interesting videos, when I woke up this morning did I think I was going to watch a 15 minute video about cleaning a basement? Well no, no I did not, but look where we are now
Ja’Crispy Thank you! 😇
I’d love to hear about the strangest things you have found and stories that have come up due to this process. I’m a foster child and family history is something that I find interesting and special... your grandfather has made your house into a time capsule that surely must be interesting to go through.
"Pitter patter, lets get at 'er" Top 10 favorite sayings. LOL
"Pitter patter, let's get at 'er." Absolutely love!!!!!!
I saw a treasure down there! All those canning jars. Oh my
I saw those too.
That old farm house is a gem! It being in your family for so long makes it even better.
When we cleaned out my grandparents house, we went through 34 full size dumpsters. It was just my sister and myself for 90 %of it.
Holy cow! How long did that take you guys??
@@laelakarimi evenings and weekends for over a month
Lord, what a great effort good on you.
why so much? Did they have really big house
Love how your measure the “stuff” in dump trucks.
It's a valid measurement 😂
Cole just in case you haven't realized it yet that girl is a keeper.
James Kinkead yea man, any girl who would set foot in that place, let alone clean and put up with spiders 🕷 😱 - put a ring on her!!
Valerie no doubt!
I was going to ask if that was your gal! She's definitely a keeper!!!
Agree
@@ValHeartNDHeartSuqquNoHeartPat Seems to me she would have hit the jack pot to be in a 100 year old mansion farm house. Lots of room to make and house babies. My family were all hillbilly, land owning farmers and they all had huge gardens. I'll never forget when I was outside my aunt betty sue's house early one morning back in the moutains and big fat Aunt Betty Sue came charging out the door screaming with a foot long butcher knife screaming and running towards her garden because one of her cows got in there. Scared the crap out of me.
I find it funny how I can hardly clean my bedroom but Cole is here cleaning his whole basement
Same
Your channel is so wonderful! Not sure how many other Australians are here watching, but I have loved seeing you transform the house! It has such gorgeous features and so much space!
you're a smart kid to take on a project as this . most 22 yr olds would throw all away & burn the house down. you're a good kid. thx for sharing. love watching you transform your grand dad's house.
I will show your videos to my son so he can have an inspiration to clean his room.
Check your vintage canning jars some are very valuable...and you have lots in that laundry room😎
“Just having stuff to have stuff...is pointlessl!” Bravo, brother! I’m not sure if you’ve ever watched Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, but I think you’d like her philosophy of cherishing what you own by owning less and caring for it properly, keeping belongings neat and organized, etc. 💕 I love these videos about your home!
If I had met a guy like you when I was young, I would have been in heaven! I love to clean! That house would have been a wonderful way to start a relationship. Glad to see you have a female in the videos now. Love watching you. You do great work.
It's so satisfying to see a dirty area return to cleanliness. And I'm glad a young guy like you knows enough to appreciate the bones, and charm, of your family home. :)
YOUR LIL LADY SEEMS TO BE A KEEPER, LIKES RUNNIN EQUIPMENT AND HELPIN OUT, PRETTY LIL LADY AS WELL
Has anyone ever told you that you should reach out to "American Pickers" yet? They can help you out by buying some of those things. Restoring an old (huge) house can't be cheap. They're very honest and could make you some good deals🙂
i was thinking the same thing beginning with the RC Jugs!
@@desertlady2815 that's what made me think of it!! 😂
@@desertlady2815 Those RC jugs could be worth up to $40 a piece...empty. There are people who will pay top dollar for old oil cans (empty and rusted!) It's wise to have a picker come out and find the valuables in the "good and the bad".
@@mawmawd627 curisioty inc comes to mind. youtube it.
@@toniasalways oh yes. Already a HUGE FAN of Alex.
It's really beautiful that you treasure this house.
just remember thats how your grandfather got started putting everything he didnt want up stairs he put downstairs
Coles intro game is growing.
Also, this is actually why I came to the channel. Cleaning videos.
Same! Came for the cleaning the house video and fell in love with the woodwork. I dream of finding a well taken care of farm house like Cole's. Still working on Jean quilt... Surprisingly I need more jeans XD
Cole is mastering overacting.
Same. And to see the house be restored to its true amazingness
DJGatortail i came here from the farming video and staying for any other videos 😂 but cleaning is my jam - I just spent a few hours cleaning out a closet I’d been putting off for years. I have a tough time throwing things out, terrible issues with “just in case”.
Id love to find out how Cole prioritizes what to keep and what to throw out. That’s my biggest issue.
I am glad to see you preserving the homestead. Too many your age want the shining new homes.
Cole, you are a breath of fresh air! It's so great to see a young man taking pride in what was passed down to you rather than tearing it down and throwing a doublewide on the property. I love watching your videos!! You're doing a fantastic job!! As with any house, you will never be done. That's the greatest part of being a homeowner. You're doing it right! Keep up the good work!
Nothing more satisfying than finishing a declutter project. Cole the Cornstar, you put out some great content. Keep it going!
That’s is a beautiful home!!! There is so much character in home!!! Love the dark floors and trim. You a Nave are such a cute couple, she’s a keeper Cole!
She really scoots when she saw that spider. Typical guy response Cole “whaat?”
You two really should wear a mask or respirator.
Fun to go back in time and see how far the basement has come.
Dont forget to check the pockets of the clothes grandparents leaves stuff in pockets.lol
Good advice! I know some people who found $100 bills in old clothes
When my Grandmother died we found a total 500 dollars stuffed into various coats, jackets and purses. Maybe she was saving for a rainy day?
Yeah, for real! When my grandma passed, my aunts found thousands of dollars in her canning cellar!
@@joesurfer9754what a great find. Bet that made your day.
Very true!
One good advice Cole and Nave. Use dust mask during this kind of work :) Keep up the good work. God bless from Norway. :)

What a beautiful house, and it's in such good condition. My husband and I renovated an 1895 mansion. I know it's a lot of backbreaking work. You're doing a fantastic job!
This young man is amazing. Cole your parents have done an exceptional job raising you and instilling such work ethic. Full time farmer at the age of 22. God Bless you and yours, Keep up the great work.
Damn Cole, I wish I had 10% of your energy!
That's it, I'm doing it!!! You have motivated me to finally clean out my garage and finish my work bench I started in there.... way back before I buried it!
James Yes I think I am motivated enough to finish unpacking from September
@@jst6r so I've only cleaned about 30% of my garage, but the good news is... I found my work bench and finished it! Plus added more shelving to store my crap batter!
That is one very nice farmhouse! I'm sitting here watching you clean out that basement, trying to get up the energy to clean out the basement of the hoarder home that I bought. Wish I had your energy!
Nave is the best! She helped you so much Cole! Plus being afraid of spiders in the basement cleaning out 100 years worth of stuff!! She deserves some pampering!!
Love the wood work in your house. That is a big house. Glad you have some one who helps you. She is a keeper. God bless.
Including your girlfriend brings a whole new level of entertainment! She's great!
I agree, I loved her!
Second this!!! 🙋🏻♀️ she is cool!
My favorite episodes are the one's with Nave in them. When i was in my early 20's, My job was muckin stalls down at the local show Horse farm. I would take my little city girlfriend to work with me every morning 4:00am. She was only like 90 pounds and was sometimes scared to get in the stalls with the huge horse's. She would ride around on the old tractors with me. Great times.
Omg Cole and nave you guys are the hardest young people I’ve ever seen!! Impressive. Inspiring!!!
It is a pleasure to see a hardworking young man enjoy his work. You have found a beautiful young woman for a helpmate. Seeing you two working side - bye -side brings a smile to my face. Enjoy each other's company. May you have many wonderful years together. God's blessings upon you both.
"EEEKKKEEE" A SPIDER COLE HELP ME"" Cole your Girlfriend is hilarious . keep her helping you .
"Hey! ...now there's a frog."
It is truly a beautiful house, both on the inside and,
when the panel is finished,
even the outside. They could really build beautiful houses in the past.
The basement is so big, so you could almost have a cinema there.
You folks are the future of America,God bless you and may they be many Cornstars in our future!
I’m an old farm wife turned suburban ( well, not THAT old!! ) Your enthusiasm and work ethic is so encouraging! Plus- “its always “more fun” to clean someone else’s house than your own”, or so it feels- But Watching you work while I do mine cheers me up & gives me that same feeling !
Great job in the cellar Cole, it looks like it stays dry, I would paint the walls with a coat of UGL Dry lock to keep it that way and then paint walls and floor, nice clean area after that to set up Coles Planet Fitness 👍🌽🌽🌽🌽
Wayne S Hancock yes paint the foundation walls with some kind of water barrier paint.. with all this flooding going on. Get a sump pump just incase
Don't forget if you have a sump pump to take the hose off or you'll push your assembly apart come winter... My dad forgot once. Once was all it took. XD
Maybe "Cole Plants Fitness"! 😂
Holly Webster you nailed it 👍🌽
That woodwork has got me drooling. Even in the basement! I am SO proud of you for not painting it. The endless, monotonous white/ gray/ black so popular right now has no character, no charm, nothing original. I am so jealous. I'll be dreaming it's my house and I'm finding treasures everywhere! Good job, Cole.
You are blessed to have a beautiful young lady who is working this hard and sticking right by you! I would say any young girl that works this hard is genuinely a good person.
Came across this video by accident?? I'm not a farmer, not even close. I'm a senior who is a suburb dweller. However, this guy just makes me smile all day long!!!! I've watched about ten of his videos already and I just love him to pieces. Also, he resembles my grandson and I think he is smart as a whip. Keep those videos coming; so entertaining. Cole, your girlfriend is adorable too.
Keep up the good work. My farm was just like that when i bought it from my father in law. It took me 2 years to get it cleaned up. But it looked great 25 years later when I turned it over to my daughter.
Great job Cole and Nave! Cole, at 4:30 you had me rolling on the floor...… "Want to see something crazy?" To funny! Love the RC cola gallon jugs! Those are cool! You are one amazing person Cole...….. Thanks for sharing your house cleaning with us, you're doing an awesome job!
Your parents done a great job teaching you values. Mom and Dad must be really proud to have a son that puts important things first and not video games. It is a joy to see such hard working young people focus on getting ahead in life.
I watched this as motivation halfway through organizing my full garage after we moved. Love your positive attitude!
Therapeutic watching something so dirty get clean. Loved doing that when I was younger!🤪
Cole, I love Nave! She is so cute! You two are so good together. Anyway loved the vid and I can't wait to see the finished basement!
There is nothing that brings greater hope, than young people with ambition.
Your so lucky. I love doing what you've been doing. I would love to go through all that stuff. Love your videos
This guy is me when I get older. Love the busy life. He’s not in a carpet mill he’s outside worker. Good guy🤙🏻
You know, of course, that "this room is going to be storage" is how it got that way.
I hope you never lose your positive outlook in life. Such a cheerful bubbly young man. May God bless you.

Lol 😃😄😅
Love your house, they sure don’t build them like this anymore ❤️
It’s a good thing you have so much energy. What a job
I watched when you 1st started cleaning the upstairs & continued on through farm work. You do have a lot of energy! Keep going. Your doing great. I moved from northern MN to FL for my daughters 1st baby but I do miss the snow & people. Not the cold for sure, really nice here for Feb. But I'm going to keep watching cuz it makes me less homesick. I like your work ethic & honesty & your organizing. Again keep it up & lots of good to you.
You two should be commended for the tremendous amount of work you both did. Small goals is definitely the best way to attack the project.
You know how to clean and a hard worker not to many young men today are like you , you should be very proud of yourself.
You should do a video of the stuff you found from and make it the coolest, the oddest, the oldest, and what the heck is this oh and how many boxes jars and cans of nuts bolts nails both bent and straight and other misc hardware
Mrtowmonster : you forgot the screws and bolts that have been run over and picked up on the street, if ya gonna have nails bent and straightened, ya gotta have the screws and bolts with messed up threads!!!!
Please tell me you're donating the "good stuff" that you don't have a use for. I know it's an extra step, but some people would love to have those items!
Heather Lynch yes, especially the clothes! (If they are in good enough condition)
Yeah there's is some good stuff in their
Of course!
When you were talking about the 1 rm being for storage or anything you didn't want upstairs I was imagining your kids or grandkids cleaning it out in 50 yrs. Circle of life repeating it self.😊
This kid is one of the hardest working 22 year olds I've ever seen he just doesn't sit around. Respect my g 💯 🙏 🙌
One living room the "parlor" is where you could receive guests like the pastor or the avon lady for a more formal visit. The other living room was like more personal family space. According to my grandma 🙂 they would do it that way.
I read somewhere once the parlor furniture was purposely uncomfortable so guests wouldn't stay too long
@@HootervilleHaney That's hilarious and genius at the same time lol
Now called living room and family room. You get to let your hair down in the family room.
My grandpa is the same way. He has something for everything. It’s like a mini junk yard.
Thanks for a house update. Is really fascinating watching the transformation of such a beautiful, historic Iowa house!
Hey buddy! love what you're doing to your house! I'm an interior designer, and you can definitely hide some of that stuff safely, like the furnace, boiler and fuse box. Even the funky floor can be hidden to some degree! I definitely would recommend some Kilz paint on the walls just to seal the cement (and brighten it up to help give you more light) and on the ceiling, maybe some drywall and decorative beams to kinda match the rest of the first floor. You're doing a great job! And thank heavens you have no plans to cover that original wood work!
