I was so happy she won.

not me. Robin Christopher should've easily won. While it's good to submit both comedy and drama, it's not as if VM's material from these tapes was comprehensive or otherwise mandated powerhouse acting.
And her win, sadly, was based off politics, i.e. the judges felt sorry for her because GH refused to raise her pay, which they rightfully turned down. Did she warrant a pay raise after bringing in ratings? Sure. More than Tony Geary? Absolutely not. TG, for all his faults, along with Genie Francis saved GH from cancellation in the late 1970s, plus he had logged considerably more experience in daytime dramas and acting in general to justify his lucrative compensation package.

I don't understand how she won over Robin Christopher.

@BLTKellys - Judges on the Blue Ribbon Panel like to see a range of acting in an Emmy Reel - and Vanessa's Reel had some comedy thrown in. And that clinched it.

@@fyi9476 Interesting. Although altogether, the reel is just not as impressive as the other actresses nominated.

@@BLTKellys none of the other actresses nominated submitted comedy, and that clinched it for Marcil. As she showed an ability to do BOTH drama and comedy.

because the judges "felt sorry" for GH turning down her ludicrous offer to earn more money than Tony Geary and work less.
Vanessa Marcil is overrated and her acting is truly not that mesmerizing in my view.
      Robin Christopher deserved this win

@@fyi9476 actually no. Like many Emmy victories, Vanessa Marcil's was driven by political undertones, plain and simple. My source, who is extremely reliable, flat out admitted she only won as the judges felt she got wronged when ABC/General Hospital rightfully negated her outrageous demands to a reduced work schedule while earning more than Tony Geary, the very actor whose character along with Francis's Laura prevented GH's cancellation in 1978. Marcil logged in nowhere near the level of history or longevity Geary did to justify a significant pay increase. TPTB rightfully declined, yet tragically captitulated to her greed demands in 2010 upon her return, forcing particular veterans to go to recurring all to accommodate Queen Vanessa's exorbitant paychecks (to paraphrase Rebecca Herbst/Liz on GH: "Some of us don't work here when Vanessa is around"). I'd understand a modest salary hike, i.e. $50,000 more, due to VM undeniably generating ratings increases off the 2002-2003 arc. But to earn more than Tony Geary? No. Pay your dues first.
In regards to the tapes, these are nothing special. VM's drama selection lacks the depth and complexity which came from Robin Christopher's entries as well as AMC's Rebecca Budig's whereas the comedy showcase was generic at best, mediocre at worst. Marisa Tomei's performance in My Cousin Vinny epitomizes a fine example of an exemplary comedic portrayal which rightfully secured her the coveted Oscar trophy.
