    Super video, Matthew.
Was actually at Land Rover Brock yesterday to finally see it properly. Curiously, the Disco I was in yesterday was also a brand spanking Montalcino red - but had the black / red stitched interior. Choosing on a configurator, Id never have chosen this colour. But it looks fantastic in real life. I might even go for it. Carparthian Grey is gorgeous too.
On the finance side, actually many more (as a percentage) pay cash for Landies and Rangies than equivalent Audi / BMW. The depreciation, however, is an algorithm which is set, but that does not have any real bearing to what the car will be worth in 3 years time.
I've had 5 or 6 and the only problem I have had is the seal around one of the windows came loose. That was about 15 years ago, however! No mechanical issues whatsoever.
Discovery actually has quite a good reputation for reliability. The old Mks 1 and 2 were awful, but the cars on sale now bear no resemblance to what was being produced under Rover Group / BMW ownership.
When I originally saw pictures of the car during development, I hated the rear door. I thought the offset reg plate was a big mistake. Now, however, I love it. Its unique and in a few months time, people wont think twice about it. What I would say is that the design suits darker colours.
You are right about the rear door, but their size is very much part of accessing the 3rd row of seats. Its a proper 7 seater - not a 5 + 2.
Having had Rangies and Landies over the years, I would recommend that you avoid Ivory leather. If you are single, and spending time driving all over the country, then consider Ivory. Otherwise, my advice would be black or the darker colours.
The Infotainment is one of the best you can get - on any car. A lot of reviews simply consider the slight time delay in response time with some functions, but if you assess the whole system, including the sound thought the Meridian speakers, it is a great package. Driving along the motorway on a late evening with the Infotainment blasting really stirs the soul.
Surprised that you don't like the cooling seats - wait until the warmer weather and then decide. If you don't actually need much of the specification, why not look at the SE. An added advantage is that it comes with grained leather facing, which is tougher and more durable than the windsor leather of the HSE Luxury.
For me , this supremely comfortable, capable car has one tiny tiny faux pas. And that is the curry hook on the passenger side. It is a faff to get open and closed.

I bought one of the first HSE Luxury discos to come out in April. I think the infotainment is already dated. It does lag a bit. The driving systems with the stop start is quite intelligent. For example if you park and the engine has stopped during its stop start cycle and you remove the seat belt, the gearbox rotary knob retracts, Quite useful. Didn't work all the time but its a very convenient feature. I preferred the previous model's split tailgate. The rear really does look like a moose. It is very comfortable though. Try out the massage feature for the seats. I loved it.

This seems to be an upgrade of a Freelander rather than a Disco. Terrible styling which shows it's new Asian ownership. RIP Land Rover !

I've just bought a Range Rover Sport. It's been in the garage three times for warranty work and not done 3000 miles yet!

What I've have learned very quickly is its a badge and I do think land rover should be ashamed of themselves as I said before why oh why don't they get it right .????? The money I spent on my kia I could have three of them the for the a mount I spent on my range rover .

Seems like they've fixed everything 'wrong' with the Disco 4: particularly not having sliding seats in the middle row and the lack of useful storage in the cabin

What did you end up going with mate? Did you also test out the new Volvo XC90?

    • @Mathew_Horan
      @Mathew_Horan  7 років тому +2

I've already got the new XC90, we've had it 12 months. The wife is very happy with the Volvo and my contact has left at Listers so we are going to stick for a while.

Horanmeister Various thanks and good luck. Sat in the xc90 while in Sweden and really liked it. It's been between the xc90, RR sport and the GLS... however really really liking the look of this! Also considering the hybrid versions as well.
Valid point about the TVs. Iv got that dual split screen TV setup. Only used it once even on long journeys. It's all about the iPad and wifi hotspot for entertainment.
Keep us updated with what you end up going with 👍

I know you have a bad back and obviously you manage to put the seats up & down on your XC90 but these electric seats on the disco are as slow as a week in the jail , I would end up doing it manually, also not good engineering if the front seats move even if someone is sitting in them .

I have the xc90 inscription. I really love it and it was no where close to £68k. The Volvo also now is of such a premium quality and design. We looked at a few land rovers but the Volvo trumped them all. Stick with your Swedish beauty! Lol

    Fabulous review Matt!
We are thinking about trade-in our XC90 T8(2017) for a disco. Our XC90 seems to be a lemon which caused us 7 trips to dealer after delivery end of last year. Other reasons are something to do with off road capability and towing capability.
We were looking into toyota LC200 as they are so popular in Aus but we personally couldnt get over its interior quality.
So here we are looking at disco. Your opinions are spot on and we can relate to them very well as current xc90 owner.
