Seems like a pretty good controller for a first time buyer or for a second purchase after a DDJ-200! As a DDJ-400 owner, I'm saving my next purchase for a used DDJ-1000 - I prefer knobs and switches to toggle buttons in the FX section, and I have been dying for CFX buttons, plus all the little buttons that are stuck in software when you're using the 400. Still, dying to try the merge FX!
i'm in that exact market, had my 200 for about 2 years now and feel like i'd outgrow the 400 too quick. I wouldn't want to spend that much on the 800 without the four channels and I don't have the funds for the 1000. The FLX6 seems like the perfect fit

Dude your content is so underrated. Professional and informative. I’m in the market right now and debating this or the DDJ 1000. I’m just a bedroom DJ...nothing serious, but I’m concerned about the build quality and I really want something with mixer options.
Liking the jog wheels, new features and especially the integrated set up to function with both Rekordbox and Serato! Don’t like the cutbacks such as no inputs, XLR plugs and no multi colored pads but at this price range for Pioneer, it wouldn’t be perfect. Thanks for the review and going to pick one up to replace my DDJ-RB!✊🏽
Great review as always Pri yon Joni. I enjoyed how you thoroughly explain the use of DJ gear. I showed this to my DJ partner and mentor for I feel he's ready for an upgrade. He has the DDJ 400 that I gave him when I upgraded it to the DDJ 800. We discuss the DDJ FLX6 and even though it is a 4 channel controller, we feel it is not a fit for him. The reason is that he learned with the full Pioneer DJ system. He doesn't need to interminate the controller. he needs a controller that fits him which is the DDJ 1000. Don't get me wrong. If you are a beginning DJ and are ready to step up your game and had both Rekordbox and Serato DJ software, the FLX6 may be the controller you may want to purchase. My opinion is if you use the DDJ 400 with Rekordbox only and you take it to another level, I recommend the DDJ 800. Yes, it's a 2 channel controller but it mirrors the Nexus DJ system so you can easily play and CDJ 2000 nx2 or the CDJ 3000 with a DJM 900 nx2 mixer. This is the route I feel you should take. Again, good review.

@@ozand9320 It's the Pioneer Pro DJ system. The CDJ 2000 Nexus 2 or CDJ 3000 media player with the DM 900 Nexus 2 mixer. You can also use the Pioneer scratch and battle mixers like the S5, S7, or S11. Their huge mixer is the V10.

It works with both, but as I understand, the layout and button labeling favour rekordbox over serato. Even the merge fx favour rekordbox as you can customize and make your own with rekordbox, but sereto it is what it is and you can’t customize or change it.
It's not build the same as the ddj 800 or the 1000. If you move a lot, it cannot hold up to any roughness. If you dj with pa systems, it will be hard because you have thin rca cables and signals need to go through an amp or something to get clean louder audio. This controller is made with bedroom djs in mind. If you have a ddj-400 there are 2 ways to go. If you're only a home dj or djing somewhere else that isn't crazy, get the flx6. If you're djing outside constantly and have gigs all the time, get the ddj 1000. One is not fully professional and one is fully professional.
Is the USB power source reliable enough to power it? I had the SB3 last year and it would flicker off from time to time- even using it with a 2020 MacBook Air... Now I have the 2021 MacBook Pro M1. Do you think the USB power will suffice?
If you have too many items plugged into a non powered hub, it will fight for power. The issue is not the USB port, but how many items you were trying to power off one hub.
So far the samples mod are the worst to not say terrible,i want map the F1 Kontrol and the options are so few that better forget,no volume map for sample no effects for sample really bad ,but thats recordbox fault im a traktor user and need keep on it because the lack options there
Channel 4 can be used to output deck 4 or the Sampler. If it's set to deck 4, Sampler will go straight to master. If it set to Sampler, you can control the sampler on channel 4, including applying EQ and FX to it.
I just bought the silver sb3. Should I return it and buy this one instead? I would have to spend an extra 100 to get serato pro anyway? It’s only 250 more. What do you think?

Sb3's nice but the flx6 is a better home/practice controller. You get to sample serato and record although apparently there are some problems with the flx6 serato so with this deck you'll probably end up using rekordbox.
At the time of this comment, no. But that could change later on depending on if Algoriddim is planning on supporting FLX6 for their djay software for iOS. I don’t have any info if that is happening or not. But I’m sure they are listening to feedback requests if it’s something folks are looking to use.
Hi PYJ! I'm looking at my Rekordbox 6.3.0 pad editor and I'm not seeing any way to assign "Sample Scratch" to any pads. Is this exclusive to the DDJ-FLX6? I was hoping that it'd be possible to assign it to the Scratch Bank button on my DJM-S11, so I could stick with Rekordbox and still have Scratch Bank-ish functionality.
Depends. If you are upgrading from a DDJ-400 and want to practice 4 decks, go with the FLX6. If you are gigging and need professional outputs and are ok with a 2 channel layout go for the DDJ-800.
Best way to find out is on the Virtual DJ forum or Facebook groups from folks who have tried it. It should also be on their website whether support for it has been released.
They may release a patch in the future. I wish Pri made a video about Virtual DJ. I know he works for Pioneer, but I'd love to hear his thoughts about the software and see him demonstrate some cool stuff that he found useful with it.

The reason I don't cover Virtual DJ on my channel is simply because I don't own the application. Every video I have posted since that time is a demonstration and not a review.
In order to have a balanced XLR or TRS output, it will require a device to have an additional power supply. One of the defining characteristics of entry level is bus power. Once you introduce a power supply, it will require a different sound card to support the balanced outputs. The additional cost will begin to make it out of range for entry level pricing, for a feature that a beginner or hobbyist won't really need or use at home. Also, one of the advantages of entry level controllers is it's portability because it is bus powered. You can take a small laptop and a DDJ-400 and use it anywhere. In fact, you can use it with an iPad. There are no available apps yet, but the possibility is open for using the FLX6 in such a setting.
@@priyonjoni I don't think the beginner is worried about using it at home. They're worried about using it in clubs. Like I said, I appreciate the video you made about how someone can plug in their entry level controllers to club PAs. Like seriously, thank you for that because it has helped me keep my gigs without having to upgrade from my SB3. I just think it would just make more sense if say the SB3 added XLR outputs but kept pretty much everything else the same. I love my SB3 but I wish it had XLR outputs. I don't need 4 channels and I certainly don't need all the other stuff that the higher priced controllers have. If you work for Pioneer, I highly suggest you send this message to them. Give me an SB3 with XLR outputs at a decent price and I PROMISE you. it will sell like hotcakes.

Sb3's nice but the flx6 is a better home/practice controller. You get to sample serato and record although apparently there are some problems with the flx6 serato so with this deck you'll probably end up using rekordbox.

The pro version of the FLX6 are the DDJ-1000 and DDJ-1000SRT
Having a problem just got today this pioneer ddj flx6 and it doesn't complete recognise serato all the features 😑😒
DDJ-FLX6 is designed as a rekordbox controller that happens to be Serato compatible as a secondary feature.
So you can’t plug in turntables on this controller right?
There are no phono inputs for DVS on the controller itself, all though there is a go-around using rekordbox on a Mac.

Yes you can. Merge FX is part of rekordbox and the functions are mappable.
