There are zero disappointments when it comes to safety.
It cost a lot of pain, suffering, and heartache for each and every piece of safety equipment ever invented...
I’ve known brad for years now, couldn’t of met a nicer guy to get that trans from. Really hoping he gets a big chance to shake the 4200 scene up with his truck.
good to see trevor enjoying the 4200l !
I'm a Ford guy and I absolutely love this build and all of your 4200 content. Anything that gets more interest in the I6 engines is good in my opinion. I love the 300 I6, the Barra, the Chrysler Slant 6, the 2JZ, etc. They're all great reliable engines, they run smooth and they're damn near impossible to kill. I think overall the I6 configuration is superior to the V8, and they thing holding most I6's back on the performance front is heads. With the DOHC head you gain back most of what you lose from those bigger displacement pushrod V8s too, so this thing is pretty much ideal. The only thing I might like more is if you popped in an LS-headed 300 or a real Barra.
Yeah. An LS headed 300 would be really cool, or a Gen 5 LS headed 300. Thanks for tuning in!
One bit on the trans brake.
Over on the Steve Morris channel, he found out that if the wheels are off the ground, trans brake engaged, engine up against the converter AND the trans brake button is released, it will smoke frictions in the trans if the drive shaft turns freely.
A trans brake engages forward and reverse to keep the car from rolling. Releasing reverse takes time and this slow release will cause reverse to burn if the wheels are off the ground. When the car is on the ground, the acceleration of the drive shaft is slow enough that reverse can fully release before the drive shaft get up any speed.
Well aware. Big fan of Steve Morris. I've never done what you referred to.
Your safety and everyone else on the track is # 1.what makes you feel safe is what you have to do.
If you are using a megasquirt, the noise is in the layer planes of the ECU board. You can put ferrite beads on your power supply wiring and some of your sensor inputs. Honestly the design of the megasquirt really needs revision by a very good analog circuit guy.
14:05 as someone who got a hernia doing much the same thing shown here, please Calvin, don't move heavy stuff like this. Hernias are god awful painful and not cheap to fix.
Some drywall seam mesh tape and Spackle works just fine for a repair.
@@bobroberts2371 lol damn I should've thought about that
I stumbled onto this and heard 4200 and was like the trailblazer motor what???? Ive noticed my 06 trailblazer is pretty fast to be a L6 but only on top end and rolling 45 mph plus it will get up and go. Its smoked some well known fast cars on the hwy loaded with kids and luggage. You know how people are on the hwys they dont wont to let you by but the blazer has made it by and i was surprised it smoked a hemi and pulled away at 100 to 120 in the mountains of Tennessee. I was seriously impressed but though nothing of it being a monster that you have built.😮
Good to see trevor on the channel, didn't expect that. Thanks for informing us about the safety upgrades on the car, I think some of us become complacent about going high speeds in cars which can be detrimental when bad things happen. Great video as usual calvin
Look into a Simpson hybrid head restraint (Hans). Big time neck/spine protection.Adjusted properly, full range of motion (except "chin down", which is the injuring motion)
Yeah. I have a Hand device. Been wanting to get a Hutchins device.
At the speed you are planning to run that containment seat is a great upgrade. Glad to hear about the 4200 I6, totally new to me and this intrigues me a lot. Looking forward to seeing more results with the wagon.
I LOVE the 4200 swaps!!! I wanna do a 4200 Miata! Or a Dodge Colt... Or something TINY!
Check out our Fiat build that we did.
My starion would make a good swap.
Love the Atlas Inline 6 design, it sounds pretty good. If I would walk away from the Olds V8, currently doing a SEFI Olds 358, the Atlas would be my modern choice. If a readily available RWD oil pan came available, I would be very tempted tempted. I love anything unique.
Good to see your dad up and at 'em! On the wagon bench seat; you want to do 8:50s- if you want to do that, you need to be "dressed" for 150+ mph- you and the car, no bones about it.
Thank you for your videos I enjoy them very much. Picked up a trailblazer for its 4200.. for 500 bucks
Nice!!! Excitement!!
As an Australian I am fascinated by the 4.2 we didnt get here
Don’t complain y’all got the barra lol
I can't tell you enough how excited I am to see a 4200 getting this attention. I really originally wanted to do a 3rd gen Camaro with one, but I've got a 86 Oldsmobile Cutlass that I'm really considering doing AWD with a turbo 4200 swap. The more progress you make the more I'm feeling like it's the right move.
Good call on the seat! Y'all ain't putting around!
These videos are really inspiring me to swap my 300 in the 96 f150 with a turbo 4200. Having a Barra would be really neat to keep it all ford, but you outlined all of the reasons why the 4200 is a better motor for USA people to use. Demographics is a big deal for easily sourcing parts. Also wanting to keep it connected to a manual transmission to row through the gears.
Time to start saving money!
I have seen some very impressive 300 I6 builds for circle track racing & hill climbs if want to keep it all Ford.
I would recommend adding some type of fire suppression system to the car. That and maybe add a funny car cage to it (though, not fully to 25.5 spec).
Disappointed? Hell no!!!! Your saftey is #1!!!!
Love the updates. Need those Tilton starter adpaters on your website.
Sorry it's taking so long. Working on it.
Mom cheering for Team Atlas.😁👍
Always good to see your folks doing great and popping in the videos.
I hope you inspire many other hot rodders to look harder at the Atlas family and try their own hand at it.
The hot rod world needs more straight sixes. ✊😎
Can't wait for someone to yank a TT i-6 from a new Grand Wagoneer and drop into some classic hot rod.
In regards to the seat, Safety first, where you plan to go, ascetics only go so far. there has to be a compromise for safety
The wild hornsbee!
Great video update hope the new trans is the right answer. Thinking more and more that one of these will end up in one of my projects, either a 55 Studebaker 1ton pickup or a 49 Plymouth Suburban.
Do it!!
@@Calvin-Nelson Would prefer to put it in the Plymouth as I have already rounded up a 12V and 5speed for the one ton. How much space do these engines take up? Seems pretty big in your foxbody engine bay. I have had BBF foxbodies and your 4200 looks taller and longer than the 514 was.
@@playanddisplay3636 it would probably be easier in the Plymouth. Here are the dimensions. sites.google.com/view/vortec4200wiki/dimensions?authuser=0
@@Calvin-Nelson Thanks brother really appreciate it, yeah the Plymouth had a flathead I6 originally.
Safety is #1. Bench was nice, mostly for the street. Racing seat is key!
The fearmont laying it down!!
I'd love to see a belt 4200 national aspirated in a road going car for road race. I've been contemplating for quite some time on what engine to put in my 2001 cavalier rear wheel drive project
I'm glad to see your daddy up walking around God bless y'all
Glad you are using your channel to showcase other UA-cam channels
I cant believe this channel doesn't have more subscribers.
1000 HP from a 4200 would be pretty sick!
It's coming.
NICE! 😎
Love the 4200 I currently refreshed one for a trailblazer ext that are pretty good sleepers with factory 3.73 gear.
Would love to tune it better but computer not my thing.
You do awesome work with with these engines
As a Cummins guy, I'm diggin' the 4200.
Funny story. The main bearings in a 4200 are identical to a 5.9 Cummins.
As a BMW guy, I'm diggin' the 4200. I wish BMW made a bigger 6-cyl.
@@michaelblacktree I was a BMW guy, with an E36 M3 and E39 M5. But the maintenance costs were just too much.
@@Calvin-Nelson No shit? Kickass!
@@monsterram6617 - My solution to the maintenance issues was to delete half the stuff that goes bad. 😛
I’m so glad to see the seat upgrade, thanks for the info on the crash pad, I need to look into that for my Kirkey
The 4200 is the only reason I watched motion tvs channel
Safety first 👍🏿 Glad to see the ol'man up & at'em🥰👍🏿
Awesome!! Love 6 in a row engines!
I'm here for the safeties equipment
Cant wait to see what kind of power this monster puts down!
Did you ever post numbers on the forged bottom end set up? I kept hearing the 1000 mentioned 👀👀 Glad to see more content rolling out man!!
Yeah. It will happen soon. I just don't need to blow it up right now.
8.6 is spicy
that RX7 is sick
I feel the need to make an American version of the Supra with a 4th gen camaro and a 4200 vortec now lol
Very cool build. I dig what you and your paps are doing with the 4200's. Do you still have the Nova?
Thanks. We do.
I love this channel and my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer with the 4200
Keep it up buddy you make awesome content . You’re a natural on camera . More subs in your future 1000 percent .
Remember: Lift with your back, not your legs!
Safety first. Never "third," or so...
Lift with your knees brother, you're going to screw your back up, ask me how I know! Appreciate the content. My old man had a couple of Ford wagons, both Falcons though. '66 XP with a 3.3l and '71 XY with a 351.✌🇦🇺
Hey man you need to talk to Richard Crich of Precision Transmission.
Oh yeah? Is there something in particular you noticed in the video or, you just think he builds nice transmissions?
Be fast. Stay safe.
Hope you dad is doing better ......does that bell housing just bolt up to the motor
With an adapter it does
He has a link to the adapter plate in the recent Barra Vs 4200 vid.
I have 2 4200 engines if u would like them. 1 07 that needs rebuilding and 1 low mileage cherry 08. I'd donate them to u guys. I love ur channel. I'd love for you guys to do some mild performance mods for me one day on my custom 08 trailblazer. Keep up the amazing work
Send me an email. Very interested! nivlac5700@gmail.com
Which Rpm convertor are
You using???
No idea. Stall speed is not an easy discussion. Hoping it stalls to 3800+ on the foot brake.
NO!!!! Magnecor are crap wires! when they work they work great, but they just randomly break, for seemingly no reason. I've had so many breaks in Magnecor 10mm wires that I'll never trust them again. Now I just make my own wires with 8mm MSD Wire and I can throw way more dwell time at those wires with Smart Coils and I've never seen a MSD Wire fail. I'm a Rotary guy and ignition is a big part of making power due to the size of the flame front on a rotor. That's why we have leading and trailing spark plugs (in the race engines they actually had a third spark plug above the trailing plug, so three spark plugs per rotor).
Hm... Now I'm hesitant. I already bought a set that a for a 2JZ
@@Calvin-Nelson I’ll say this, you seem smart enough to make your own wires. Make a backup set of wires with 8mm MSD wire. It’s not hard to do.
I had Magnecore Wires for years, the 10mm expensive ones. I even ordered the extra long ones so their wouldn’t be any binding in the wire. They still broke in their windings inside the wire. I thought maybe it was heat, so I wrapped them in DEI heat wrap. They still broke. I changed to 8mm MSD wire and they never broke, I even upped the Dwell at low RPM to improve Torque output and they just take it and have not broken. 8mm MSD wire is the best, and the resistance on the wires is next to none.
I don’t work for MSD or anything, I’m just a nerd.
your cage work was already on point, cant wait to see it taken even further.
Calvin, I can't imagine any of us being 'upset' at you using some high-quality safety pieces in your wagon. I'm as (old geezer term) as "pleased as punch" you chose to learn from other's experiences. You'll never regret investing in this kit, but if you didn't buy it, you just might have regretted not investing in it. Smart choice and smart moves.
Your dad is a tank
I hope brad finishes a project for sick week and is able to do the drive with you
Sounds like fun. I hope he does too.
Get the seat powdercoated and the seat bulsters in the same colour as the interior
Not a bad idea. I could just paint it.
@Calvin-Nelson 100% it'll look good
Personally, I would not run a seat with a halo. When you roll lots, your head ping pongs off of them. Happens a lot in rallying, people have been known to get concussions from it.
Instead, I'd invest in one of the head and neck restraint systems that gives lateral support as well as back and forth.
Planning to run one of those too. It's all about the padding with the head containment seat.
I turboed my inline 6 E30 myself and have experience tuning Megasquirt, but know nothing about these engines or old American cars. I'm intrigued. I just moved to Arizona so there are lots of old American cars here and lots of LL8s at the scrap yard. Would you say swapping these engines can be done on a budget? And turboing them?
Yeah. It can totally be done on a budget if you can weld.
@nivlac57 do you have a website or have you made a video that outlines the best engine or donor vehicle to pickup the 4200 vortec from? I would like to try and make 500-600 on a stock engine using a single turbo. Id like it semi reliable for street driving. I believe I need to find a 2006-2009 engine for the best starting platform?
sites.google.com/view/vortec4200wiki/power-matrix?authuser=0
Greatness
I just got done watching a video on LoCost 7 builds and this popped up now I'm curious what your setup would do in a LoCost 7.......
Would probably be pretty fast
🚀🚀🚀
Btw i havent been around long but like the information from u & passion from the family.
My only question is, do u show more of the customizing/diy of what ur doing or more explain the show the results.
(Again very much a noob of ur channel & cant what to learn more on the 4200) just hope there is actual what to & what u did. Have to keepnthe info following.
Thanks again
Yep. We put out a ton of info. Trying to make the platform accessible to everyone
Would that mustang throttle body be beneficial on a non turbo 4.2? Doing a 4.2 build in my tracker mud truck. Thanks for the content!
If you're running an aftermarket ECU, they're a lot easier to control.
Comment in support of the channel. Good luck.!
Regarding the launch in the into, remember, the road leading to the shop has no sanctioning body.
I am struck by Calvin's dad saying they haven't had a 4200 powered car that did not run 9s. I am seriously considering this swap for my 72 maverick I just picked up. It is a 6 cylinder anyways and honestly, I like that these are cheap and common engines that you can get parts for relatively cheap.
Show me cheap parts? Everything is custom so far like oil pans, intake and exhaust manifolds and transmission adapters. I wish more companies would start developing parts.
@@witcher71well the sump is up front like I need to fit into the maverick so that's not really a problem, and I am going to run a g101 no matter what engine goes into it so I'll have to have a custom sfi bell anyways. Cheap is relative. I'll never use another LS engine in anything I own ever again as I've used them for 20 years and am burnt out by them. I did my first LS swap in 2001 into a 87 Buick regal limited that had a blown 307. That shit was a nightmare because the drivetrain wasn't even 5 years old at the time so it was all custom. Like had to use a diode to bypass the vats system on the Z28 ecu just so it'd work. After it was done the car ran like nothing else around and was a great car. Got good mpg with the 6-speed (try sourcing a real 4 speed g-body Malibu pedal set for a g-body manual conversion nowadays)
Awesome! Dyno coming soon?
Probably after Drag Week.
Random question but ive searched around for a while and youre probably the only person i can think of that can actually answer this question lol! But what is needed to mate a t56(ls1 fbody) and or tr6060 to a LL8 4200?
Lots of info here: sites.google.com/view/vortec4200wiki/manual-trans-overview
You'll need the Emtech Flywheel and Adapter Plate and the right clutch and pilot bushing, but it should not be a huge deal to do the conversion.
@Calvin-Nelson ill check that out for sure thanks man!!
About how much money for the containment seat?
Thats my guy colabing seen his s10 4.2 and was wanting to do mine. Is diy build but new little about you . But i have the 4.2l from my dad
Is there much aftermarket performancer parts avaliable for the 4200 ?
There is a bit out there. It's growing everyday.
LMAO with your mom hilarious moment.....and best of all love the new seat my opinion it just looks safer 💯🙂👍🙏
Safety is #1 goomg. Go under under 12s i think should have a better seat & safety.
They didnt make the bench to handle a 20s pass.
Part of me wants the big block in my Chevelle to give out, just to have the excuse to put a 4200 in...
Do it!!
Is there a bolt on header for a stock 4200? I so want to turbo my wifes trail blazer!
Ill watch the other videos.. but is this a built 4200 or stockish?
Artec makes a turbo manifold.
This one is built, but you can go pretty far with a stock engine.
I'd love to pick your brain in person for just 5 minutes. You seem to know WAY more about the atlas engines than anybody.
Love keep up the great work
Calvin I'm curious if Haltec will work with the 4200 when it comes to the vvt. I'm also happy you and your dad are doing better. He'll be back in a car doing 8s in no time 😤
Haltech does not currently support the 4200, but I'm sure they would be happy to add it.

10:14 Cool, definitely not as much of "a ruined classic" as a Chevy-powered Ford 🤣
19:26 Yeah, these aluminum seats are quite dry, usually don't seem to have enough to absorb hard impacts. FIA spec bucket seats give more confidence just from looking at IMO.
"Ford in a Ford!" I can see the pitch forks. Lol
Safety should be a main priority in any race program. I don't know who would have done anything differently after your dad had his crash. Family first !

Lost a little weight in the drive shaft LoL
True...
I smell maybe a Chevy Vega or monza getting one of these engines in the future. Maybe even a chevette. But I guess for a Chevette or Vega could fit the 3500 or 3700 inline 5 better
People did have managed to cram a Chevy 250 into the hood of a Chevette, but it's a lot of engine (and a lot of work, too) to make it happen. So yeah, a smaller unit would work best.
Be safe! Bench seat don't matter in the graveyard.
would you sell a custom kit to me for the turbo
Every 4200 that has ever run on a racetrack has exploded...
That could not be more false.
