This is definitely a hard one so early on in your metal journey. I don’t think it was such a good idea to react to Lorna so soon, they’re kinda like the final boss. I’ve been into metal for several years, and only this past year was I able to really start digging Lorna. I’d recommend “softer” songs such as Before I Forget from Slipknot. Or if you are more into melodic stuff but that also has some heaviness, I’d recommend something like The Sin And The Sentence from Trivium. the metal scene is like looking at a pool you don't go fully into the deep end of the pool. but gradually move into the deep end and you find the route that's best for you sometimes one just needs to start off with power metal music or heavy rock with bands of powerwolf, disterbed, Godsmack, then move into like bands of jinjer, slaughter to prevail, maybe even whitechaple, then maybe move into more symponic stlye of bands like nightwish, epica and even bands like bandmaid, the hu would be a better swim route to learn how to listen to heavy music.
If anyone else has a proper path then they could say something else but I feel like this is how I ended up enjoying the heavier style of growls of this style.

Will Ramos is their new singer after their old one left in controversy. Their style does generally sound like this, Blackened Deathcore comes from having elements of Black metal (blast beats on drums, fast paced) and Metalcore, or Hardcore (breakdowns - when the beat drops out and the guitars chug on the lowest string), both stemming from Punk. Metal is such a wide ranging genre. From Folk metal with bagpipes and flutes, to Death metal with corpse-paint.

@@cobraglatiator yeah this guy is a little off with metal stuff. Corpse paint IS black metal. Now this is blackened deathcore, because it takes elements from black and death metal with hardcore punk influences. (black and death metal doesn't come from punk). the black influence here is that is more atmospheric guitar (tremolo picking highs, etc), and screeching vocals. The low growls and thick production are death elements. Blast beats are shared between black and death. The hardcore elements is in one part the speed, but mostly the usage of breakdowns.

@@jeffreychandler8418 I am so huge on this genre most likely because of that too, its all the best parts of those genres. Never been the biggest fan of older death and black metal, but when you get into the modern stuff and start mixing in newer elements I just fall in love with it. I would probably never listen to much Mayhem for instance, but kick some Deafheaven or Bosse De Nage and I am ready to go on a journey, doesn't make me any less of a metalhead even if some old school elitists may get on my case for being more into the modern stuff but that's just how it is for me. I like all the old metal genres and I will listen to them, but it tends to be the modern, experimental sort of genre blending stuff that I stick with. My definition of heavy isn't constantly thick production, low tuned guitars chugging on the top strings nonstop and growls for 6 minutes straight with little variation, that gets boring to my ear, when you mix it up with melody, solo breaks, using tons of different flows and techniques in the vocals, build up into half time breakdowns, hell maybe throw in clean vocals or a goddamn brass choir, that's when I get hooked. Or in the Blackgaze sense like the bands I mentioned, have this sort of mellow atmospheric shoegaze vibe with these dark poems just being wailed out over a dynamic instrumental. I will never not like some good old fashioned metallica, slayer, black sabbath, etc but I am all over the bands in genres that just stick out with the interesting shit they do, System of a Down, Deftones, Lorna Shore, Dance Gavin Dance, Polyphia and Ghost (not really considered metal but I count them), Slaughter to Prevail, Deafheaven, Bosse De Nage, Sleep Token, Tallah, Archspire, Chevelle, Coheed and Cambria, Hungry Lights, Tool, Zeal and Ardor, those are my big ones.

I love these guys and when other people find them and actually respect them it's so freaking dope. Especially when it's SOOOOOOOOOOOO far out of your comfort zone. Yes, Jinjer and Slaughter To Prevail are hard, no question. But Lorna Shore is different. The elevation of music that they embody is special. Being hard and brutal isn't "easy" but it's easier than doing that and making people feel something in their souls. Which Lorna has done time and again. An ENT physician friend of mine long ago told me that the singers of this type of music or delivery of lyrics often blow out their vocal cords and their careers are often cut short due to the harshness and unusual demands upon such a delicate organ in the human body. Have to hand it to those who can last long enough to be added to the list of those that stand the tests of time, even if their contributions are less than say other singers who do not put their vocal cords through such rigor while performing for our enjoyment.

Also, a sidenote: what you mentioned about your throat getting sore while practicing extreme vocals means that you are dong it wrong. It’s actually quite dangerous cause if done wrong it can actually hurt your voice in a bad way. There’s a proper technique for it, that’s why these guys can tour for months, play 2-3 hour shows without damaging their voices. A good example of a great extreme vocal technique can be heard during his one take of “To The Hellfire” that Will posted on his YT channel, I would recommend you to react to it as well, it has much juicier vocals and a better mixing. Also he is kind and sweet as a human being. Lyrics are poetic in a human way, music is divine, vocals come from Hell and it all speaks to the soul whatever direction you take in life. Love how you say "this is the deep end". One of my favorite reactions. Love it when people say how they feel, give some analysis and actually give a real reactions on different levels, not just make faces and say "subscribe". Wonderful.

In the regards of the mixing, they are going for a more Black Metal approach.. This is common in some black metal bands not all of them, where the vocals just mix into the noise to create another instrument... I love that they took that out for the chorus, it makes it punch harder...

this is for SURE their style. Some call it blackened death core (sort of a hybrid of death core and black metal). Will Ramos' vocals are just insanely good if you can appreciate how physically difficult it is to have a sort of "pitch" in this style. He's got crazy range.

    • @RoadLessTraveledMedia

only minor recommendation - if you talk over a part of the song, roll it back - most people who come to hear this reaction will want to hear the end breakdown and...all that comes with it. just a thought :)

    • @I3urton
      @I3urton 2 роки тому +1

@@RoadLessTraveledMedia I'd honestly suggest every reactor to NEVER pause a song and skip around in it - the first listen should be in its entirety, or the very first listeining experience - as conceptualized by the musicians - is ruined completely. Lots of reactors do this and they take the once in a lifetime opportunity to really engage with this _entirely new to them_ piece of music away. It's so sad.
The skipping and most of the talking should be done in a second roll through imo. Hack the song apart then, but man, just stop the pausing and rerolling while listening to it for the first time.

Sick video and reaction dude, yeah Ramos from Lorna Shore is mental. You should watch the video where he meets "The Charismatic Voice" they put a tube up his nose and down his throat to see what's going on.
The doctors' are properly excited, they'd never seen vocal cords do anything like it. And don't worry about not understanding the lyrics, vocal technique is much more important. Most bands like this are using the vocalist as an extra instrument, but it's nice to have some poetic lyrics (even if you need to read them).

Thank you so much for reacting to this! Will Ramose (the vocalist) has has a one take video of this song where his vocals are highlighted for this song. That might be able to tune your ear to follow the lyrics better, if you would like to watch that haha. It also shows how effortless it is for him to do his harsh vocals. Thanks again for the reaction, and keep doing what you're doing. 👍

  • @DeathMetaI

In metal (mostly) the lyrics are just an accompaniment to the sound. The sound is generally more important than the message in the song. The overall FEEL of the music is what matters most in metal. So by concentrating only on the lyrics, you are at a risk of missing out on the most important part of the song, which is the music. Metal is listened to in a different way than, say pop or rap where lyrics and meaning can be centre of the song.

One of the best reactions to this yet! Found you recently from your reaction to Tom MacDonald's "The System", and I'm glad to see you reacting to metal too. Especially Lorna! Too bad YT made you cut out the gnarliest part of the song. Thrown into metals deep end or not, hearing Will's vocals for the first time trips out every seasoned metalhead that I've personally seen. I suppose I'll bring up some terrible news since we're talking about metal... Unfortunately the metal world just a lost a true legend and one of the best metal vocalists of all time a few days ago. His name was Trevor Strnad from The Black Dahlia Murder. Not only was he a legend, but he was genuinely one of the nicest and funniest people I've had the honor of sharing a stage with. Since you're getting into metal and reacting to it, can I request you react to TBDM's song "What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse"? The Black Dahlia Murder is a must listen to anyway (I wouldn't be surprised if they've been requested multiple times already) and I think it would be a fitting way to honor Trevor as well as cheer some of us metalheads up a bit. Your reactions are great and I really think you'd appreciate TBDM and Trevor's vocals, patterns, and lyrics. You have a really cool way of understanding & appreciating vocalists/lyricists, so it would be awesome to see you hear TBDM for the first time and geek out on Trevor's vocals and lyrics. If anything, could you add it to your list of future reactions? Anyway, keep shredding bro!🤘
