The drummer (James Owen "the rev" Sullivan) actually wrote the entirety of this song including vocals, guitars, and bass, with the exception of the guitar solo itself. As well as a few other songs

Synyster Gates is easily my favorite guitarist from the modern era of metal and is in my top 5 all time. He was trained in classical and jazz and you can hear it. Sidewinder does a great job of showcasing his talents.

This band is called Avenged Sevenfold, obviously. They formed in 1999 and the guitarist is named Synester Gates that is playing crazy. The other guitarist is named Zacky Vengeance. The singer is named M. Shadows. The bass player is named Johnny Christ. And the original drummer is named The Rev but he passed away in December of 2009 due to overdosing of drugs. He did a lot for the band and wrote a lot of songs for them. I love this band and everything that they do, I hope that you guys will react way more to them and you won't be disappointed!!!

He died due complication for taking medicine and alcohol at same time. He had heartproblems which would have killed him early and there is speculation that he started having pain for it and wanted to go while still being able to live life like he wanted. He never overdosed from drugs.

I'm still a fan but I loved the early shit , I like the screams and raw breakdowns on the early albums. Still great stuff though and the guitar work has just always been phenomenal

Mickey Lewis wow that's a great argument. Do you even play guitar? He plays the rhythm parts mostly written by Syn which aren't all that difficult for anyone who has played for some time. The real talent is in the writing process anyways. There are thousands, probably tens of thousands who can shred like Syn but very few who can write stuff that's memorable and as intricate as what he writes.

Lot's of people don't seem to realize that Avenged Sevenfold is more or less "Zacky's band." He and Shadows are the two guys who are the backbone so to speak of A7X. They were there from day 1. Which isn't to discredit anyone, but they've said it before. They had to beg and plead Syn to join the band, and Johnny was always "the kid" of the band because he's quite a bit younger. So yea, Zacky is a major part of A7X. Without question.

Its sad Zacky gets no love. Yeah hes the rythem and not lead but without a good supporting sound the lead means nothing. Yes Zacky writes easy-to-play parts but its difficult to write something that is noticable but doesn't intrude on the spotlight of others. Everyone in this band has a quintessential role to play and they all do it very well.

his name is Synyster Gates. he joined in 2002 I believe they had a previous guitarist that was with them from 99 to 2002. unfortunately their drummer who is arguably one of the top three drummers in heavy metal passed away a few years ago

Avenged Sevenfold mostly fits into the "NWOAHM" (New Wave of American Heavy Metal) genre, with their older stuff being categorized as "metalcore." Nu metal would be bands like Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, bands that emerged in the 90's.

Since they are new to all of this I was just trying to help them get up to speed on this particular band. Not like I was condescending or anything, better me than some "a7xf4vr666" kid talkin trash 'cause "you don't know what nu metal is?!" I don't even like this band that much. But it's good to know the differences between styles just like you would "trap" vs "grime" in hip-hop.
I generally don’t like nu metal.. Just the simple reason for it being the «misc» genre for metal.. Slipknot and System? They ain’t similar..? The only similarity is the artist rapping-ish.. I love both bands though, but they aint the same

Brian haner jr ( synyster gate) is one of my biggest influences as a guitar player. Sooo happy you guys did this band and doing one of there best somgs
The melody in their music is something that is so distinct in the metal scene, its the reason they're one of the few metal bands I still enjoy after hearing it so many times. Most metal to me I'll get down with for a few months maybe, but it gets old and monotonous. These guys know how to write some great melodies though that keep you hooked, and they still bring the heat with some insane shredding across all the instruments and vocals.

While I think Brooks Wackerman is the better drummer, The Rev's abilities as a background singer were really underrated and the bridge of this song is a great example of that talent.
andyhoov imma big fan of A7X, but i think A7X was more energetic back when the rev was alive.
I think that's a fair enough assessment. Their style has evolved quite a lot since then, so much so that I'd say The Stage is borderline progressive metal. Personally, that fits my tastes really well but I can understand others liking their earlier sound. Regardless of style, though, the Rev was still a great drummer and all around musician.
He was also an amazing song writer. Look into how many songs he WROTE on Nightmare
I don't mean to be some form of music elitist but the bands drumming and lyrics have fallen hard since the Rev's passing. Avenged Sevenfold is still my all time favorite metal band, as they were my cherry poppers into the rock/metal scene but back when it was the Rev doing his thing, the drums were intricate and wild in the same breath. I wish the Vegas guys'd do a little bit more on A7X, even if one of two more songs. Afterlife isn't even close to pique performance!

Yeah but not TOO early. I love all their albums but wouldn't recommend the first one
What I like about these guys is that even though they seem like they aren't really too familiar with metal and the different genres of metal, instead of judging and being harsh about metal they are very open and accepting of metal. This allows for their reactions to be more genuine and neither forced nor judgemental. I really like this stuff, keep it up.
