In a solo when a melodic metal band like Avenged Sevenfold plays, most of us "metal heads" just headbang to the drum beat whilst we enjoy the soulnd of the guitar solo. We don't often bang our heads to the guitar, cause that will more often than not cause a headace. So if you are listening to a metal band and a solo comes up, just bang your head to the drum beat and enjoy the solo.
But with that being said it's not every song that applies to, just the most.
But i really think you should listen to/react to Scar Symmetry. A swedish metal band with an amazing vocalist, or atleast HAD an amazing vocalist, now they had to get two to replace him cause he quit many years ago, Christian Älvestam is his name. But here are some songs where Christian is the one and only singer, doing both clean and scream vocals:

Future reference, some music videos do not use the full version of the song and some parts are cut out. This song is one of those. The full version is MUCH better, there's a whole build up to the solo that isn't in the music video

"what do the headbangers do during the speed guitar chaos?" We just head bang faster!!!! Metal music exists to help vent pent up energy and aggression. That's what we do. It's gravy that the best ones also have great message and deep meaning.

Haha. "This song doesn't have a beat" as my foot's tapping to the beat the entire time. ;-) The time signature never even changes so, if you had a hard time following this, definitely avoid prog metal or metalcore. Fun reaction, though. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.
Most songs, independently of genre, have the same 4/4 time signature so if you're able to find the music TEMPO you'll be able to headband or headbob without a problem. Even if the song is all over the place it usually "respects" the tempo, so you won't "lose the beat" if you pay close attention.
This song gives me chills and goosebumps every time I hear it! :-) Just an amazing, brilliant, feel good song that puts a smile on my face! :-)

try the studio version, in that version the drummer has the best screaming/singing voice in the backround or the alternate version where there is a string section (diamonds in the rough afterlife AV).

Avenge is from my area. I met some of them back in the day before they made it. I was a guitarist in another band. At guitar solo, you raise the horns, and head bang to follow the bass drum, usually 2/4. HB in CA had a lot of old schoolers and a lot of us hit LA, Back in the day, it was common to run across upcoming bands that are now big, but just breaking then.I have partied with names that are big now, that were not big then.
