This riff and the way they build to it is probably one of my favorite Megadeth moments ever. I have listened this section of the song on repeat sooooo many times.
Damn this Thrash week is everything I hoped it would be, so enjoyable to watch. Great song choices aswell. By the way it’s funny that you mention that jazz aspect in the beginning: the drummer and guitarist on this record were in a jazz-fusion band before joining Megadeth. Peace.
Mark Cavich I was talking about Thrash week, not their song choices in general. So far they did For Whom the Bell Tolls and Orion by metallica, Alison Hell by Annihilator, Inner Self by Sepultura and of course Megadeth. Very solid list if you ask me.
you could really say "Is one of their best" to about every song on every album pre-Risk.. I'd like to see them try out Lucretia as well. that's one of what I consider their most underrated songs..
@@Eliath1984 I was going to say Lucretia , I agree it's great and they will probably find the rap style Lyrics interesting. Though in my darkest hours lyrics are pretty powerful for almost anyone. Gives the whole song an edge. And in the live versions it's almost like he's shouting to god, taking a risk, given his beliefs.
This is why I love these videos! when y'all find a badass metal song you can get into. Puts a big smile on my face! Especially when it's songs I'm really familiar like this one!
Exactly! When you know it's a song the would like that you love and you want to see how they react to it! I just wish they would react to at least one song that I have suggested over the last four years or so. Oh well
It’s funny that George said that they have a jazzy element in the beginning because the drummer (Gar Samuelson) and the other guitarist (Chris Poland) were jazz fusion players that really brought those groovy dynamics in the early days of Megadeth.
It's been a long time since I've heard this song, I'd almost forgotten how aggressively uncompromising early thrash metal was. It's glorious. They weren't interested in making it more palatable for more people, they played what they wanted and bowed to no market pressures.
Megadeth is my all time favorite metal band. They're the ones that sent me down the rabbit hole. Its great to see you guys appreciate them so much Fun fact, the drummer and lead guitarist, Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland, respectively, were jazz trained musicians. Its awesome that you can hear that influence in there
Me too. No matter how far down the rabbit hole I go, I always come back to them too. Rust in Peace is the only album I religiously go back to every couple of months.
@@Doc92IDH It was the Scorpions that started my journey into the world of hard rock and metal. When I discovered thrash metal, I really got carried away into their agression and intensity. Discovering Glam metal shredding however, made their guitar playing kind of lame to me, except for bands like Megadeth, Teastement, Annihilator, who proved that you can be both technical and agresive at the same time.
The coolest thing about this channel is when I get to relisten to bands/songs in a new light that I heard years ago and wasn't too impressed by for whatever reason. I've heard this song before but I somehow missed so many cool parts of it that I might've never caught without a video like this. Same with Blackwater Park, which I heard years ago and remember thinking it was an okay song but not too special. How wrong I was
I think that might have more to do with you developing more of an ear for metal. There are plenty of bands/songs that I didn't like when I first listened, but upon revisit in a couple years later, they were brilliant
@@vosman86 A Grammy? So Fuckin what. As a metal fan that's not to be bragged about. Metal is anti any of that nonsense. You play metal from the heart, not for awards. I love megadeth but they haven't put out an album in years as far as I'm concerned.
John Ryan Have you heard Dystopia? You don’t think Poisonous shadows or The threat is real or Fatal illusion are good songs? The new album is a full metal assault. High quality as far as I’m concerned. The Grammy doesn’t necessarily mean anything your correct about that. But the album is really good
this is one of megadeth's finest moments imo....amazingly, as they were all junkies at the time...rip gar samuelson...incredible drums here...this whole album was just incredible and influencial...
Love how you guys appreciate the musicianship of megadeth. When I first heard this song in 1987 I was blown away. Still blown away to this day. When you noticed the jazz feel you were absolutely correct. Gar Samuelson was a classically trained jazz fusion drummer. He passed away way too young. This is my first comment but I love what you both are doing in getting metal music out to some that might not be into it. Keep up the great work
Those guys are pros, they don't listen to metal, but they can tell the jazz thing, they can tell megadeth is an all Star team, while Metallica is just mediocre
"In my darkest hour" is megadeth's best work imo. Even if it had no lyrics the music has so much feeling and emotion it holds it's own. Get well soon Dave! Great vid guy's, keep it up!
The abrupt transitions in Megadeth’s music fit perfectly once you know the song. They catch you off guard at first, then when they become familiar, they make perfect sense.
Seeing that line up in the clubs was the absolute badass experience. Gar was like a preying mantis on the drums. I saw them twice on the Peace Sells tour.
I really appreciate Lost in Vegas. This song has been near and dear to me since i was around 8. But after hearing them really break it down, I began to really hear it a little different and break it down in my own ears. I like that. I don't find that too often. LIV is down to earth and they have my respect for sure. Very entertaining channel guys! Thank you.
And again and again these 2 idiots cut it in the middle of it all. They cant take it serious. When will they ever grow up ? Morons. For that I gave it a thumb down.
Uzurpon eh, I disagree. I enjoy they’re breakdowns and it’s fun to watch people react to metal that I’ve listened to for years. Heck, even Dave Mustaine supposedly made comments about these guys 👍.
@@the_illegitimate_jedi3479 Rust In Peace lineup was one hell of a comeback. I liked so far,so good,so what but it sounded like they had angry cicadas for guitars.Gar and Chris was the lineup though..even with the bands massive drug problems
Seeing your reaction reminds me how much I take these songs for granted. I heard this for the first time 25+ years ago. Familiarity breeds contempt. Or at least lack of appreciation . Thanks.
I say this on all of their Megadeth reactions... Yesss! That's their best song, seriously. Highly underrated, for whatever reason. It's goddamn amazing!
The “All-star team” reference is completely accurate. Dave Mustaine always hand-picked the highest level musicians to be in Megadeth. Chris Poland Marty Friedman the new guitarist Kiko Loureio all phenomenal. The drummers Gar Samuelson Nick Menza Chris Adler. Only All-star musicians are allowed in Megadeth haha
Franco Kcy0 they didn’t need one, it’s exactly what makes them unique. Dave is perfect for his band. Could they have gotten someone “better”? Of course, but it wouldn’t be MEGADETH.
Franco Kcy0 Although Dave is far from the best metal singer I absolutely prefer him over most generic scream/growl/ metal singers. Dave has a unique voice and it causes Megadeth to have a unique sound which makes them more memorable than all of the cut and paste metal bands with the generic “deep voice” singer Megadeth would sound better with James Hatfield Phil Amselmo or Chuck Billy though. But I prefer Dave Mustaine over most “average” metal singers. At least Dave has a completely original style and snarl and attitude
@@vosman86 Well, don't get me wrong, I love Megadeth, but his voice is hit and miss almost constantly during their first records, at least until Countdown where he find a more suitable way of singing. He never had a technique, every time I seen them live he looked like he was suffering, and he we are, after years of abusing of his limited voice he got cancer..
After 30 plus years of listening to these bands, it is so wonderful to listen to this music through fresh ears. Your approach is so open and honest. I can't wipe the smile from my face watching you both. NASTY!
"THE CONJURING" Lyrics and Music by Dave Mustaine Dave Mustaine: lead vocals/guitar David Ellefson: bass/backing vocals Gar Samuelson: drums Chris Poland: guitar (All guitar solos by Mustaine) Welcome to our sanguinary sect of worship Feel at home in our black conventicle As we anathematise All those who oppose us Don't summon the devil Don't call the priests If you need the strength The conjuring Obey! Behold, the flames rise From the compass's cardinal points Burn the sacred oil And with the ashes you'll annoint Arrange the symbols Of the wizard and magician Light the candles Place the parchment paper in position Between its leaves place The lash from a black cat's eye A straw of a broom Fold and burn and centralize Don't summon the devil Don't call the priests If you need the strength Then conjure me I am the devil's advocate A salesman, if you will You know my name You know my name I met your father years ago Gave him what he'd please He called my name And you'll do the same I'm claiming what is mine by right It's time to close the deal You're bought and sold Bought and sold Come join me in my infernal depths Mephisto's Hall of Fame I've got your soul I've got your soul The conjuring Obey!
Yeaaaah "lash of a black cat's eye" ... "straw of a broom" ... I'm old enough to remember the lame Satanic scares back in the day over lyrics like this and now it's just silly to me. I tend to think a real spell wouldn't be this campy. I love this song so I consider the lyrics a bit of a tongue in cheek Faust-influenced trifle.
Chris Poland, lead on this album...Dave said himself that Chris could play circles around him. I know all the talent Megadeth has had over the many years with Marty and Nick and all but my favorite lineup has always been Dave, Junior, Gar and Chris.
Marty actually used the solos written by Chris Poland for Rust In Peace as a guide. Many don’t realize Chris played on the demos for Rust In Peace. To me Chris is the best guitarist Megadeth have ever had...
I absolutely love Marty, even his weird J-Pop stuff but yeah, Poland's work on this album was something special and unique. Gar too, with his relentless power. It's basically jazz thrash.
Love when I hear these guys react to a song I have listened to hundreds if not thousands of times and find a new appreciation for it. cheers guys. Megadeth - Hook in Mouth
I didn't expect this one to grab you like it did, but I am glad it did! This is great live song because they slow down the groove parts and speed up the thrash parts, so the transitions are even more accentuated. I am rediscovering all of these songs because of you two! I love it! All the best Rich in Sweden.
Finally!!!!!! My favorite of theirs. I love how musically astute you guys are becoming. I love that you guys actively listen to the music & lyrics. As a lifelong black musician it's nice to see other blacks enjoying metal coming from a hip hop community. I got so much shit from other blacks growing up. Dave Mustaine & Led Zeppelin are the masters of groove to me.
Inspectorbudget If you like groove I suggest you check out Overkill's discography if you haven't yet. 19 albums deep and it has many styles, Groove, Straight Thrash, Power, and even some Doom metal. I'd love for these guys to do their track Thanx for Nothin' but it doesn't seem to be on their radar. Anyways I thought you'd like them if you hadn't heard them yet
@@Prez76 OMG YES - also Overkill are one of the only metal bands who are still as fast, as heavy, and hitting all the notes the same now as they did 30 years ago. I saw them do Hammerhead live from a couple of years ago and it blew me away. If anything they're heavier and tighter now.
Lost in Vegas bingo. Take a card we will play it in the next video! Card 1: - Fire - Transition - Crazy - Golly - Groove Card 2: - That was Nasty - They are going off - Dope - Destruction - So fly
Dave Mustaine has a lot of riffs that sit comfortably in a swing/jazzy kind of feel. This one is definitely one of those. Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson were both Jazz fusion artists as well, so I think that's how this song came about. It's really a masterpiece if you think about it. They build the intro into the main thrash idea, which eventually transitions into the groove riff. Then, they combine the 2 by stomping back into the thrash riff and cap it off with the groove riff. That's flat out disgustingly well written.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish I could hear these songs again for the first time like you two are doing. The best part of watching your videos is seeing you two discover the greatest metal music ever created (as we watch), it brings back great memories. Finally! I've been going hard for this song for almost two years, and it was well worth the wait. I really thought you'd dig those groovy riffs, and I'm glad I was right. Great reaction guys, loved it!
As a sophomore album this was a huge step in the songwriting of Dave Mustaine. You don't get a classic like Rust In Peace without the steps he took here. This song really displays it well. Drummer Gar Samuelson (RIP) had a jazz background and you hear it in the way he brought out the swing in bassist Dave Ellefson's playing. You hear it more from Dave with Gar than with any other drummer. And Chris Poland could really thrash along with Dave. So glad you guys enjoyed this one. I can't wait for more Megadeth!
@@arvindshastry1178 don't mistake me, I love Peace Sells... I think the high points on the album are some of their best. And I prefer Megadeth over Metallica. I love this lineup with Gar & Chris. But I think as a complete piece Rust is better, particularly introducing the classic lineup.
@@skins28dg I can understand, everyone has opinions and tastes in music that's what makes music so much special and yeah Marty Friedman and Nick Menza were awesome but still I like psbwb more than rip. I keep coming back to this reaction. It is, in all honesty, the greatest reaction to any metal song ever. I usually hate it when people "pause" during reaction, but every single time you pause I'm like "no no, we need to talk about this again, GO!" Just infectious delight.
The Conjuring has always been one of my all-time favorites and one of the standouts on a legendary album full of standouts. Also check out Good Mourning...Black Friday. Amazing song.
There was actually a very subtle shift a measure before that "abrupt" transition that you loved (go back and listen for it and you'll catch it 14:10-14:12, they break the galloping riff to give you a touch of the transition). It sets your brain up so subtly that you really need to be listening for it to realize what it's doing. After that, your ear has been trained to anticipate the transition, so they can just hit you with it, and you know it's there. It's ridiculously meticulous attention to detail.
@@serpentheadedmask9 Me too, they might not like the vocals at first but I think Bolt Thrower could be the band that gets them into death metal because of how groovy they are

I'm so glad you revisited it, and with this song! 💞 that's one of the things I love about your channel - you get me excited about these older songs that I haven't listened to in a long time. Some of the best moments on this channel is when the music is going, and you two are talking among yourselves, not even audible, but you can tell that you all are impressed. And where you say "Jazzy?" That's perfect. Chris Poland, the real bad ass lead player you were praising, is a huge jazz guy. Another fine reaction.

DrewGee 502 I have long thought the same. The riff is my all time favorite. And there are so many great riffs but that one is just a step above the others. Not the hardest to play, not the fastest, but there is just something about how it hits. The best things are sometimes hard to describe why they are such, which is why we as humans find the awesome
Hey kids! Thank you, thank you, thank you for reacting to this song! I enjoy watching this video multiple times and I can't get enough! You two are a riot! This riff and the way they build to it is probably one of my favorite Megadeth moments ever. I have listened this section of the song on repeat sooooo many times.

I hope Dave sees this reaction. I think it would put a much deserved smile on his face.
Dave is a hard man to please but he always knows what a badass he is. He does not need validation.
Damn this Thrash week is everything I hoped it would be, so enjoyable to watch. Great song choices aswell. By the way it’s funny that you mention that jazz aspect in the beginning: the drummer and guitarist on this record were in a jazz-fusion band before joining Megadeth. Peace.
Big smille on my face when they mentioned that.

Mark Cavich I was talking about Thrash week, not their song choices in general. So far they did For Whom the Bell Tolls and Orion by metallica, Alison Hell by Annihilator, Inner Self by Sepultura and of course Megadeth. Very solid list if you ask me.
That's what I love most about the first two Megadeth records. That jazz-fusion influence is really cool. Fun as hell to play on guitar.

@@Eliath1984 I was going to say Lucretia , I agree it's great and they will probably find the rap style Lyrics interesting. Though in my darkest hours lyrics are pretty powerful for almost anyone. Fun fact, the drummer and lead guitarist, Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland, respectively, were jazz trained musicians. Its awesome that you can hear that influence in there
Bands like Annihilator and Megadeth should be more likely be called as prog thrash metal. Just Thrash is quite a simple name for these bands.
I was just going to write that very thing about Gar (R.I.P.) & Chris. You've stolen my thunder lol.

@@Doc92IDH It was the Scorpions that started my journey into the world of hard rock and metal.
When I discovered thrash metal, I really got carried away into their agression and intensity. Exactly. Even these two noticed it because they mentioned the groove and the jazzyness in the song.

@Douglas Fisher it has. But Domination by Pantera must take the nr1 spot of metal breakdowns
I like the fact that they knew the song was so good that they had to repeat the intro 3 times lol
How wrong I was
I loved blackwater park before, but after their video it's become one of my all time favorite songs.
I think that might have more to do with you developing more of an ear for metal. There are plenty of bands/songs that I didn't like when I first listened, but upon revisit in a couple years later, they were brilliant

Only All-star musicians are allowed in Megadeth haha
Yep, sadly they never hired a good singer
Franco Kcy0 they didn’t need one, it’s exactly what makes them unique. Dave is perfect for his band. Could they have gotten someone “better”? Of course, but it wouldn’t be MEGADETH.
Franco Kcy0
Although Dave is far from the best metal singer I absolutely prefer him over most generic scream/growl/ metal singers. Dave has a unique voice and it causes Megadeth to have a unique sound which makes them more memorable than all of the cut and paste metal bands with the generic “deep voice” singer
Megadeth would sound better with James Hatfield Phil Amselmo or Chuck Billy though. But I prefer Dave Mustaine over most “average” metal singers. At least Dave has a completely original style and snarl and attitude
@@vosman86 Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dave himself say that he couldn't sing and yet did it? (even though I love it).
@@vosman86 Well, don't get me wrong, I love Megadeth, but his voice is hit and miss almost constantly during their first records, at least until Countdown where he find a more suitable way of singing.

(All guitar solos by Mustaine)
Welcome to our sanguinary sect of worship
Feel at home in our black conventicle
As we anathematise
All those who oppose us
Don't summon the devil
Don't call the priests
If you need the strength
The conjuring
Obey!
Behold, the flames rise
From the compass's cardinal points
Burn the sacred oil
And with the ashes you'll annoint
Arrange the symbols
Of the wizard and magician
Light the candles
Place the parchment paper in position
Between its leaves place
The lash from a black cat's eye
A straw of a broom
Fold and burn and centralize
Don't summon the devil
Don't call the priests
If you need the strength
Then conjure me
I am the devil's advocate
A salesman, if you will
You know my name
You know my name
I met your father years ago
Gave him what he'd please
He called my name
And you'll do the same
I'm claiming what is mine by right
It's time to close the deal
You're bought and sold
Bought and sold
Come join me in my infernal depths
Mephisto's Hall of Fame
I've got your soul
I've got your soul
The conjuring
Obey!

I've been watching your reactions for quite a long time now, even before you guys had given metal a chance, I just want to say that your genuine curiosity, amazement and love towards all genres inspires all of us to be open minded and think freely about everything in life. Both of you have a way of connecting with the subscribers better than most other reactors and I think it's just because you have the courage to be yourselves on every reaction. Thanks for all the videos guys, just watching one of these every now and then brings a much needed smile to my face. Hope you get nothing but success in the future. Thank you for creating lost in Vegas.
Shit tons of positivity from Bangalore, India.
Hook in Mouth off So, So Good, So What. Also, In my Darkest Hour.
Hook in mouth is great, I don't know why but his vocals are amazing on that album
@@grumpybritishbean8969 Yes! The vocals sound so powerful and aggressive on that album and that fits really well with the songs. 😊
Two restarts? Must be a first. Fitting for this epic song. Def one of your best reactions!
ManiacTobi I think I counted 3! 😆
