I think that when a pet like Watson is injured it is a whole lot tougher on us owners than it is on the pet. Animals are able to just get on with life while we humans fret about these things. In this respect I wish I was a dog, especially with all those hugs and kisses. 😌
Indeed. My dog lost his vision during his senior years due to progressive retinal atrophy, an incurable genetic disease. He truly didn't suffer but lived on very happily for several years without eyesight. We had to modify a few routines, like always he'd walk into things and/or lose track of us and get distressed, but as long as we did that he was totally fine.
I feel like there's a lot of stigma to having less than 20/20 vision. There are plenty of animals and humans who were either born with a degree of blindness or lose some vision and still live fulfilling lives. Of course it's very unfortunate when an accident like this happens, but my daughter was born with her optic nerve not fully attached in one eye, limiting her vision in that eye a lot more than a "normal" eye, but her life is full of laughs and love. Especially because this happened at such a young age for the puppy (as well as my daughter being born that way) it will almost feel as if he's always been that way as he gets older. He will learn to cope with a different visual perspective and hopefully live a fantastic life just as great as a dog with full vision. Sad, but there is always hope and happiness if all goes well after surgery and the owners are as committed as they seem! As much as vision loss is seen as a physical disability, anyone with it can live a great life regardless. ☺️
@@sporks3256 We brought two little miniature rex rabbits home a few months back...and one was blind in his right eye from birth. We purposely chose him, because we wanted to give him and his brother a good home. He has turned out to be a feisty little thing, and we simply make sure to talk before we pet him. There is a stigma around animals with disabilities, and although this owner isn't completely responsible for what happened to their dog (leaving the puppy in a home with an adult cat and then waited so long the eye was unsalvageable), the dog will learn and adapt and be a dog.
I didn’t understand how serious eye injuries were until I worked at a vet clinic. EYES ARE EMERGENCIES. They could be able to be saved one moment and then in the next hour, your gonna have to take out the eye because it gets worse. Eye injuries should be seen by a vet ASAP ! Most people don’t know this, but waiting a day to see a vet could mean losing an eye
My Chihuahua had a run in with our cat at 2months old. I took him in immediately just thinking they'd give him an eye drop but it turned into emergency surgery because the cat claw broke off in his eye. 😢 Thank God I took him in right away. He healed up fine and has no vision issues. Amazing what our vets can do for our fur babies 😊
I love this program and Gerardo, when he says that feces testing is his favorite and says "fragrant", with a straight face, is so cute and admirable, it goes to show how all those vets are so dedicated, worth watching and lovable!
As I was watching him cuddle up with the puppy as it was waking up from anesthesia, thinking how cute it was, I couldn’t help but think how strange it would be if a Dr cuddled with a human patient as they woke up from surgery 😂😅
"Uncle Scotty" and "Auntie Em" and the entire crew at Sash and BondiVet, you are all angels of mercy. Thank you for all you do for our pets and wild animals. I am 69 and we have three rescue cats. I have learned so much from your videos during COVID. it is especially interesting to see echidnas, wombats, Tasmanian devils and other animals indigeous to Australia. Now I know a little bit of what goes on behind the scenes at our own vets' practice here in Florida.
This really rocked me. Being a pet owner and a parent I really don't know who to feel for, the beautiful pup, the owner, the people that own the cat or Scott. I just hope that Watson's owner will stop blaming herself. Watson will grow to be just as stunning as he is now.
Poor pup Watson. Obviously it's tragic to lose an eye, but dogs rely on their sense of smell in a way that we can't even begin to imagine, and he'll cope well.
Thank-you for your awesome videos! They are full of phenomenal veterinary excitement, information, love, sweat, tears...but above all, incredible veterinarians, vet staff, and the menagerie of BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS!
Misty is such a darling kitten. No doubt she feels much better now. Why did the friend not keep the puppy and cat apart? As long as I have had cats and dogs I have always worked with my cats and dogs to get along, puppy or not. Just sad but Watson will have a full life regardless of only having 1 eye.
Poor little Musty Blue 💙. I have Asthma and COPD and know how it feels to not be able to breath at times. So glad she made it through. WAY TO FIGHT LIL GIRL!!!!

I see so many people quite entertained when a dog, even more a puppy, bully a cat. It's sooooo funny to see the cat growl and hiss with all its fur raised, and it's soooo cute to see the puppy go ruf ruf and play and try to hit it with its little paws. And then that happens. I'm so sad some people can't understand whatever forms of bully is bad, that the bullied can be forced to defend themselves with catastrophic consequences. This puppy had to loose his eye for his owner to understand that.
I absolutely love your Bondi team of amazing, loving, humble and ridiculously intelligent Drs!! Im hooked! I learn so much from this arena! Thank you ALL!! So inspiring! Xo
As a human it was difficult for me to have been through a corneal ulcer like poor Watson. I could express my pain and frustration, but how can such a young puppy cope with such an injury? At least everyone on staff at the clinic has the skills to treat him properly. Dogs don't seem to be bothered with self-pity when they lose a body part. Lucky Watson has everything going for him for a full and happy life.
When we take on pets they become a part of the family that's hard to describe. You are obligated to care for their needs as we would a child. I loved watching all the care of the animals, however when the dog threw up I almost did to. My boy Dozen ate a stuffed toy. He had to have major surgery to have it removed. He did survive, and is now an 8 yr old spoiled boy. No more stuffed toys in this house now.

Life on earth is not perfect. There are struggles and as a vet, you must wonder why, but you do your best to make all the creatures who come to you, better, and thank goodness for all those that you help. Sometimes you must get very sad, but you carry on doing your best, every day. Your optimism helps so much.
