He wasn’t afraid of humans per se, he was afraid because his physiology was so out of wack that he probably couldn’t manage the world with any security. As a human, when diabetes manifests in the system, the experience can be extremely discombobulating when you don’t know how to identify the source of the symptoms. Before I got diagnosed, I maybe peed 9 times an hour. So for a dog, I can imagine that would be an absolute nightmare, especially after being on the street. Glad to see the 180 he was able to make after getting proper treatment.

Great job everyone at the shelter seeing this sweet boy needed special attention & also his foster mom for realizing he was very sick. You all saved his life literally! Morris is now living his best life now because of you all!! What an amazing family he ended up with.
My staffy is diabetic. Its a big commitment but its completely worth it. Bless doggies.
Morris is adorable. He reminded me of my late baby Charlie. I'm glad he's able to play with his brothers and sisters every day.

Chewy/Morris really does have such beautiful eyes, and to see them filled with fear was just awful. I’m so glad that he had caring and observant people around to discover his illness, and help him get better. I think his story deserves to be immortalized in a children’s book, he could teach kids about diabetes. ❤

What a precious baby boy, such an adorable face! I'm so glad they figured out he was actually sick and then it took only one treatment for him to start feeling better.

Big, beautiful boy
ALWAYS keep an eye on your pet, you know when they’re acting different or looking ill . Learned the hard way when I was a kid when my dog was suddenly not being himself . I thought , “Well I’ll just monitor him .” Nope , bone cancer in his leg . Very aggressive form . Amputation would have given me more time with him , months at best . I waited a month . I’ll never forget the Drs words and the guilt I felt .
I was very young 17. On my own and working 2 jobs to pay my rent and buy his and my own food . I literally went without eating at my apartment the entire time while he was on meds and treatment . 3 months later he crossed that rainbow bridge at the vets . I’ve never forgiven myself. Miss him TODAY , 30 yrs later .
I have had 2 diabetic dogs! Takes a ton of love and full time commitment, but so worth it to see them blossom once everything is dialed in with dosages and food amounts. My life revolved around them both until they passed. ❤

Poor sweet angel, his precious humans probably didn't take the time to figure out about the diabetes, and abuse him because of that, breaks my heart to seem him so scared of people. Thanks for saving him❤ But I wish we can save them all. 😢😢

I adopted a labradoodle and called him Chewy. I adopted a Doberman (Freya) that was in the next cage over. They were best friends so it had to be done.🤣 Maybe a Goldendoodle in the near future.🤔

I thought my dog just missed me before he was diagnosed with diabetes, there was just something off about him. He would hide in a dark part of the house when I was gone. He got really sick before we were able to find out it was diabetes. 3 years later and he’s doing great, although he is losing his vision.

Excessive thirst and urination (polydipsia and polyuria, respectively) are the hallmark signs of diabetes in both humans and pets.

Ever seen a grown man cry.
I adopted a dog that wouldn't come for treats or meals, wouldn't come near , I finally figured out they had to have lured her with treats and food in order to punish her.
Did your dog start coming for food?
Everytime a dog begins to thrive in a foster home, I hope for a foster fail. Then the video announces "Little one is adopted" & I'm a bit disappointed. But then you see the dog thriving in their forever home, loving human(s) & often other dogs or cats too, & it's like 'Yeah, they're where they belong, so glad this wasn't a foster fail!" LOL.

knew it, as soon as she said drinking and peeing all the time i knew that it was diabetis. It was the same with our dog. For some reason the vet back then insisted that it was a bladder infection but i told him to test his urine and it was diabetis, who would have thought?
