Here’s Glen Powell in this movie “Yeeee haw!” Literally they are hillbilly UA-camrs who launch fireworks into Tornados from a pickup truck. At one point I was like please get me out of here. During the last act they sort of tidied it up a little bit and it became watchable.
But he's secretly smart :)
I mean he's literally based on a real world chaser so I'm not sure what you want

She is terrible here. She is terrible in the Crawdads movie.
"need to stop and be like ooh these people lost their homes...is another movie" so Dan Murrell said in his review that just like him, Lee Isaac Chung grew up in Tornado Alley and he appreciated that Lee Isaac showed how people stopped and helped each other, because it's what happens in real life tornado situations and that other directors would have missed this aspect.

I felt like people that are from around tornado alley got this movie a bit better because of some of these aspects. It seams a bit to surreal to others. I noticed right away that El Reno was the sight of a real F5 tornado.
I believe 4 storm chaser even died in that tornado.
At the rate he's going, Glen Powell will cast in a reboot or sequel to _Magic Mike._
Daisy Edgar-Jones needs to start a support group with Emilia Clarke for talented British actresses who can’t find the right film roles to do them justice

it's very obvious they wrote the script with the idea of bringing back Helen Hunt to play the mom and Helen said nope, and instead of changing the script they hired Maura Tierney. They could have brought back another character from the first movie who's still alive to make some connection to us fans of the first movie, but too much effort right? No wonder I've watching mostly mediocre reviews from those critics who love the first movie
I'm glad that there were no actors from the first movie, tbh. Legacy sequels need to be able to stand on their own instead of relying on the cheap nostalgia of dragging back respected actors to reprise their roles and frequently do almost nothing with beloved characters.
The flying cow, hope they bring back the flying cow because it's the real star of the first one.
Be careful what you wish for Christy! A million subs would yield a curtain kind of comment section.

I love how they kept going "We don't have time to get the game-changing data module - there's folks in that town who need our help!!" and then just stand around waiving people into buildings.
Based on the thumbnail, it looks like this movie was able to *BLOW* past expectations

Glenn Powell is so good playing the slimy and charming guy. But he should do other roles to prevent being pigeonholed.
I can't believe you two haven't watched Normal People! It really is worth the time and the episodes aren't very long. It's on Hulu. Amazing series. You'll see that DEJ isn't a bad actress, though Paul Mescal steals the show for me.
That said, even Glen Powell's handsomeness is not enough to get me to watch this. lol

It kinda comes and goes but that seems intentional when she's living in NY and trying to live a different life.
Needed a speech where the mother gave the daughter, a fiery speech and the daughter vow to kick the asses of the tornadoes
I enjoyed this, but its not as good as the original. Twister was at least mostly tethered to reality.

Okay, I just came back from the movie and I agree that it is fun but thoroughly FINE. Just fine. I also see why Alonso questioned Daisy's acting in this movie, even though I've loved her other performances. Her character here is pretty one-note and sullen. I don't think Glen Powell stole the movie, though he oozes charisma. I totally understand and agree with Christy's line about the movie being dumb but not dumb enough.
This felt like a Hallmark movie, combined with disaster flick, and what a thankless role for Kiernan Shipka.. Still better than the last big disaster flick "Dont Look Up"

If I could have rewritten the movie I would have combined the Anthony Ramos character with the Glenn Powell character and given the role to Anthony Ramos, and would have made him a brother to Daisy Edgar jones. The conflict in the film could have been that she doesn’t understand how he got over the deaths of their friends and become a “tornado wrangler”.
I enjoy it alot. It's alot of fun. Glenn Powell just captures your attention everytime he's on screen.
I had mixed expectations for this, given that I've never seen the original 'Twister', but really loved 'Minari'. I was surprised to enjoy it more than I thought I was going to. It's kind of three movies in one, and I enjoyed each of those different movies to varying extents. Hardly a classic but still very watchable.

I downloaded the pirate version to watch on yesterday. And this's what this film worths for only (not worth to spend $$$ in cinema for it). I didn't put any expectation to this film before I watched. The casts.. you know....so... the girl... not a warm type... cool one. Not suitable for the action film like this. So the failure of this film has been pre-sealed. That's why I didn't have any expectation on it.
Saw it today and had a lot of fun with it. I do agree that it was very weird how they keep teasing the attraction between them only to have them not kiss at the end. In my theater you could feel the disappointment because you could tell everyone wanted it!
I thought this was excellent. A great fun wholesome hollywood popcorn flick that felt like a blast from the past
If you're going to make your main character Rey, then hire the other Daisy for it.

Saw this in a packed IMAX theater last night and had an absolute blast. People were clapping and cheering. It's big and dumb and a helluva lotta fun. Glen Powell can do no wrong! All 3 leads were great

The film puts one off from the get go. Good ol' boy Powell and his crew of rowdies are full of swagger and braggadocio, smug, self-taught experts, going on a roller coaster ride---forget about deliberately putting themselves into harm's way. Edgar-Jones gets Powell's attention just cuz of her one sarcastic remark she has about trusting a guy who's face is on a T-shirt. Then she's a dial-tone. She's INTUITIVE, like some nature mystic. Much jocular, juvenile vehicle jousting on the roadways creates artificial tension--even though both parties have differing scientific priorities---with much shouting and roaring of vehicles. Then two twisters erupt--one during a rodeo Kate & Tyler are attending---catching EVERYONE by surprise. Where is the authoritative vigilance of our know-it-all scientists??? Or even warnings by the local weather office? Then these two instances force our rival tornado chaser factions into becoming lame disaster relief supporters, except they don't have any water or food or clothing???? They gotta go back and help---ANYBODY. Kate retrieves a tattered scrapbook for a suddenly homeless lady. Or they find a lost dog. Or they herd people into a movie theatre during the tornado AND THEN they look for the basement as walls rip off???? On it goes. And yet, for all its offenses, the movie's tolerable in a dumb popcorn movie way. Hope it makes money for a needy movie industry. Powell is on his way to being the next Sexiest Man Alive. Sigh. I'll shut up now. lol

The movie felt like a two hour country music video with an all over the place screenplay to me saved by the insanely good chemistry of the leads and some great set pieces. The score was decent enough but also overused. Too much music either songs or score. The sound design should have been much better and maybe it was.. But was so drowned out by the seemingly constant music. A tornado is supposed to be one of the most frightening sounds ever and the film did nail this sspect in a few spots but should have done more. Also...this movie was a prime example of being with the movie then loosing me and vice versa (i'm with you movie...then you lost me movie...then I'm back with you movie...then ....really?) The best scenes were the small intimate moments..which makes sense for a director known for indie dramas...the worst were the......spoilers
The land developer subplot...all that was missing was the dude twirling his mustache. He did have quite the "Stache" he could have twirled. Still I thought the movie was better than the trailer made it out to be, and the open of the film was really great. 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

Yes we saw that, very interesting. Gotta do what Spielberg says when it's his production company! Plus, he's Spielberg.
Wish you guys would review "Oddity" and "Touch", both in theaters now (in the case of Touch, probably not much longer), and both instantly shot to the top 5 of my favorites of the year so far.
"Touch" is excellent melodrama (think "Past Lives" with an elderly couple, for a shorthand description), and "Oddity" is without question the best, most entertaining and scariest horror movie of the year so far.

We'll try! We've heard good things about Touch. We're sort of all over the place these days.
3.5/5 for me. Got to see it in imax on Wednesday night and took my mom (who’s a giant fan of the original one). It’s definitely one that’s worth the price of premium screenings (and a giant bucket of 🍿). Lee Isaac Chung did a great job of staging these 🌪️ sequences but I think (because of his background in smaller projects) brought a visual flare to it that I don’t think you really see in big scale storytelling for the most part. I thought Brandon Perea did PSH proud filling that role in the ensemble. I know “Deadpool & Wolverine” is next weekend but I think it’s gonna have legs for the rest of the summer.

After the Hitman movie I was thinking Glen Powell might be perfect as Hush if they ever adapt Walter Mosley’s Leonid McGill fixer detective series.
You need to watch 'Normal People' to see Daisy acting her a*** off.
I haven't seen that other movie so I was totally with Alonso on the jury being out on DEJ. Total yawn here (and in the crawdads). Had me trying to figure out how she'd gotten to be a lead. (I certainly didn't even care to IMDB her)
The effects looked great but I didn't FEEL it like I did back almost 30 yrs ago. Walked out of IMAX thinking I should've done Dolby instead.
When the original movie played the only other way you could see and watch a tornado was if a weather or news channel showed you one or you witnessed it live. Fast forward and now we can watch all manner and size of them and all in HD and free on UA-cam. So unless you are bringing something new to the table what's the point?

One of the best film this year
tried watching this movie after 40 minutes i stopped to boring i did not like any or the characters, i did not have the heart that the first movie did my mom liked it but for me i wont be wathcing or finishing this movie
Directors (even the talented ones) have to direct pictures that make money. Don’t think it’s surprising to see him go from Minari to this.
Zhao had to do it as well as Sarnoski. Nolan took on the Batman franchise so he could make his original stuff.
And he saved this movie. The Direction was fantastic.
I thought it was fantastic. The script is average as hell, but the Director saved this movie for sure. A disaster movie where people are actually helping each other? Shocking!
Edgar Jones and Paul Mechal are who and where they are due to Normal People. Check it out.
I thought it was great and I enjoyed this tremendously. The weird remake-quel quality of it and the tragedy is all fine. This movie was a hoot. Highly recommended on a big screen with awesome sound. Every single twister assault didnt feel like a cgi fest. The cgi here is so well done and the hero of this movie. *I still do not like glen powell. He didnt ruin this movie for me. Some aussie friends and I were talking and one said "he's an American star who appeals to Americans". I think they're right. 8.5/10
Didn't like the trailer, which gives me a bad feeling, because good trailers can be made from weak movies. Their description of it "it's okay, nothing special" makes sense. #rental

Daisy Jones is a higher level actor than this fun romp but thats ok ...she does a good job ...effects great dialogue a bit corny in parts
One complaint is the actress who played mother she has so much top lip filler injected it looked like a deformaty quite a distraction my partner said her top lip should be in the films credits ...😅 7/10.
I had the exact same reaction to this movie that Gene Siskel had to Batman Forever (1995) when he said "I liked it when I was watching it but when it was over it meant nothing to me, and as the days go by it means less and less." For me, this is Twisters.
This movie is pure "lesser sequel". This is not Terminator 2 or Aliens or Spider-Man 2 as in a sequel which is better or as good as the original. If Twister was Jaws, Twister is Jaws 2. If Twister is Jurassic Park, Twisters is The Lost World.
As far as the last shot, Chung and Jones did comment on this and said that they felt movies were in a different time right now and they didn't feel like audiences particularly wanted that kiss. Also, if Jones had been kissed by Powell, it would have made the movie seem that the movie's goal and build-up was for Jones to be kissed and not walk away a more enlightened muscular stronger female character.
To which I say bollocks. The audience I saw this with was vocal about them just walking off screen together; they craved that romantic moment. Modern movies have now gotten to the point where the creators are timid about showing a female receive a kiss, less she comes across as weak. They are so timid about including two straight white people kiss they feel audiences are now beyond that. We are totally alright with ogling and celebrating a masculine man in a cowboy hat, tight jeans, and tight white teeshirt walking out in the rain, but a feminine female in a cowboy hat and tight jeans and a white teeshirt walking out in the rain would be deemed sexist and exploitative of her body.

For what it was, and what it was meant to be i thought it was good.
I just got home from the movie. My sister wanted to see it. It was one of the worst movies I've seen in awhile. It was a remake, which I pretty much guessed already, but my sister didn't want to go alone. The bad music, the bad acting and a copy cat movie. Scenes and ideas from the original are slipped in this movie, just slightly changed up, as you mentioned. It was B movie grade.

Just saw it, wanted to love it and were disappointed. We all felt that Daisy Edgar Jones looked very young in the film and the romantic tension between her and the great Glen Powell was bordering creepy. Sort of meh...

I love you guys, but this is such a weird review to me because you guys seem so down on the movie and then you say it's perfectly fine summer fare. But you guys didn't even seem to like it from what you were saying before that. LOL.

It seems like a lazy type of sequel. I decided to skip it when I realised that Twisters is Twister all over again. It’s literally a waste of money but I’ll catch it on streaming.

"Dumb but not dumb enough" yes, and in a have their cake and eat it too kind of way. They made the journalist and alphabet science team into punching bags, but then the main cowboy dude is a scientist. They also explained the science in a way that seemed like they didn't want the audience to understand it, but then that lack of understanding undermines the suspense and stakes of the climax. Maybe the first one was dumb too, but all you had to understand in that was that they need the sensors to fly up into the twister.

Why is it a problem that Powell’s character is both smart and overtly southern? They’re making an observation that people who live in rural areas are often smarter than those in urban areas assume they are
@@dollarsaurus01 Because one of his first lines is roasting "science and fancy degrees." They could have leaned into the character portrait of a Texas A&M / aggie farm boy instead of leaning on marketable stereotypes and then making him smart when the movie needs him to be. I'm from the south but this was dumb.

Daisy Edgar Jones was also not good in Fresh (her friend and Sebastian Stan were the scene stealers). She is never the best thing in the movie she is in and always gets overshadowed and she got overshadowed by Powell and Ramos in Twisters. Maybe she just can't do American accents (her accent kept slipping) and should stick to her British one? Anyway, this film was ok but probably will never see it again. Great review!
