You want the ultimate scale + arpeggio obstacle course?! You got it!
Uncle Ben Eller here is gonna learn you a magical series of arpeggios hidden within scales. Its a GREAT way to blend techniques together like alternate and sweep picking, or work on your crosspicking, too. Its also a great way to learn how arpeggios fit inside of scales! It slices, it dices, it sounds cool!!!
Using my Jackson Virtuoso into a Marshall 1987X 50 watt plexi with a Carl Martin Plexi Drive in front. Sounds sooooo good going into the UA OX!!!
What do you want to learn next? Let me know in the comments!
What are the chances of you doing tutorial for intro of "Vavoom Ted the Mechanic" by Deep Purple. There's not a single decent cover of it on UA-cam, and not a single tutorial about it. I came to conclusion that Steve Morse is the only human who can actually play it. Please uncle Ben, you're my only hope!
Massive fan of combining scales and arpeggios in my lead playing, it's quickly turning into my signature style now that I'm starting to improvise over tracks
I wish you were my real uncle
He would be my favorite uncle haha
This exercise sounds like the epic Dracula's Castle theme in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
The chord/scale/key change sounds very Dream Theatre to me.
Since 2006 when I discovered govan and his book. I relearned guitar from scratch. And slowly learned to play starting thinking chords progressions e intervals. Improvising starting with arpeggios as target chord tones . Pentatonics around it and finally modes around pentatonic when needed. I play guitar over 40 years. And was hard reprogramming my mind from zero... But worth the effort. Play changes goes from completely impossible to a breeze. This kind of exercise you teach here is great for practice making phases and licks at general. When play scales is great always have chord tones as the skeleton for the ideia.
Man that was so hard to read
@@gorz859 I'm a non native speaker. sorry for the bad English. I'm Still learning the basics .
fair enough @@marcos_c_m
this is exactly what I've been practicing. Good to know I'm on the right path since I'm self taught. I got it from one of marty friedmans lesson videos
I didn't know until now what it was but the scale in the beginning is all over Peace Sells.(album)
Wow, my left hand identifies as a spider now; Thanks a lot (again) Uncle Ben..! This is a very handy lesson! -Aw, i hate me for that..
Oh and of course merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Germany!
Gonna run through this like it’s Legends Of The Hidden Temple
Olmec is on your heels!!!
That lick is very Devin Townsend-esque.
Makes me think Frank gamble is in the room, nice
Merry Christmas, Uncle Ben!
Always awesome intermediate to advanced content, easy to follow instructions and advice.
Brilliant stuff buddy, you are an international treasure! Happy holidays!
Donkey Kong Country!!! 🤘
Wow, How cool is that?
Somehow it is sweet & clean; and a bit intense all at once.
Thanks again Uncle Ben. As always you are appreciated
Yeah, this sounds beautiful. Dreamy and unusual. Look forward to throwing myself into this one. I can honestly say that your exercises have helped my down sweep so much... my up sweeps were always clean, but down was total mush... it's now just a bit mushy.
Über cool! Sounds like the “X-Files Christmas Special!” we’ve been waiting for!
As always stellar stuff.
I am getting to “Granddad” speed but good lesson. All the best.
Sick af, been using your chromatic thing as a warm up, gonna toss this in as well, merry Christmas bro 😎
Thanks, you too!
Thanks for sharing, your channel rocks!
This is fun thanks uncle!🤘🏻
Dude I love your page and your lessons licks. I've been playing for 35 years and have been the Gilmour in a PF tribute for 12 years and can play rhythm stuff from Slayer to Beethoven. However I am far from a master at anything and always looking to get better. I was always more of the James hetfield in my playing that I was the Kirk Hammett. I've really been working recently to get more advanced with my fretboard and really enjoy your videos. I don't have your speed but everything is a journey. Thanks for the work you put in. Looking to be as good as my stepdad one day
Great little run! Reminds me of the chorus lead line in Born of Osiris' Machine.
You're hella right brother
Always impressed with your playing.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thanks, you too!
Gonna learn it after work!
Another video added to the bookmarks... One day i'll get to it i swear.
What a great sync workout. 🤘
Glad you like it!
Honestly sounds like something Devin Townsend would write.
That’s a beautiful Jackson
Puts me in mind of the riffs in Truth by Devin Townsend. Love it ❤
Haha!! You beat me to it. I was thinking the exact same thing.
Great tone too!
Can’t beat a Plexi!
@@BenEllerAnd you even Plexi’d into a Plexi if I’m not mistaken. Plexi^2. ✌️
Awesome Ben your videos are a bitchen tool for improvement Patreon is worth the investment.
Glad you like them!
Anyone want to guess WHY this sounds cool, in terms of theory? I think I might know: the lydian portion is the tritone sub (Eb7 is trisub of A7)
This comment turned me into a sputtering buffoon for a minute lol
I was thinking "how TF does Lydian relate to a dominant chord!? Lydian has a natural 7 (melodic minor scale aside)"
Took me a while to realize that Db Lydian has the same notes as Eb Mixolydian, which has that dominant 7. But that is kind of eye opening, I was thinking of tritone subs in such a strictly chordal way. Like it HAS to be in relation to harmony, not melody, because...of my own misunderstanding?
@@ryanhass8716 👍😎
Love it. ❤️ keep crushing, bro.
Thank you! Will do!
Nice video. You could have also just transcribed the solos from Opeth’s The Funeral Portraits 😉😂
Insane in the membrane! Love it. 👍
Glad you like it!
Kinda reminds me of some Cacophony lick! Sounds awesome
I heard some of this in Ola Englund's "Balegmah" in the solo section with Jeff Loomis from a few revolutions ago. Shit sounded wild as hell, but then again Jeff can make any shit sound wild as hell! Anyway, awesome track if you haven't heard it before also.
The dude was shredding when he was practically still in diapers :p
*UNCLE BEN!*
HI!
Tune!
new ben eller video!!!
Huzzah
Great now I’m sad over Aerith’s death all over again. 😂
C U AT THA CROSSROADS
This sounds like it could be used in a horror movie soundtrack. 🤘
Thanks for sharing ❤, what is the name of the piece that sounds in the intro??😮
Uncle Ben do you think you could do a guitar lesson on teaching corpse without a soul by mercyful fate.. I’ll pay lol
I like the CrossPicking Technique but not sure how to do it. ...cuz I'm ignorant! Someone clue me in or direct me for a solid foundation please. 🤘
Very TSO
Sounds like you’re ready to join the Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Bring back the crooked beard.
Lol
D minor instead of A harmonic minor? Unsubscribed. You used to be cool.
Mom says hi. She misses you.
You seem like such a chill dude. I like all the verbiage you use that id like to come up with while explaining things to people but im too retarded to come up with the phrases
Like when you said getting your fingers tongue tied.
Thats some great shit, and I know exactly what the hell you mean.
And oh yeah, great guitar playing as well man! Lol.... 👀
Very Devin Townsenish.
That guitar is smexy.
I love it so much!!!
@BenEller congratulations she is a beauty
No pitty for a coward
This reminds me the Unison part of Dream Theather - The Ministry of Lost Souls (10:09 min).
