- Scoured the Internet for a couple hours looking for a video on replacing the horn for a 2018 Ford Explorer and came up empty-handed. I did not video as I was doing the work, but this description should be pretty self-explanatory. Hope it helps someone looking to replace one of these horns.
Here's the link to where I got my replacement horn ford.oempartso...
Thanks David, I was just thinking of how on earth I was gonna take off the bracket and then I saw your video. Why take off the whole bracket when you can just swap the horns 😂. Man of genius
Glad I could help! I had no idea when I made this video how helpful it was going to be for 100’s of people. I am not a UA-camr, but this video has been viewed so many times! Have a great day!
I just replaced the horn in my 2017 Explorer XLT using this exact method, down to the tip on connecting the wiring harness first before attaching the horns to the bracket. It took about 30 minutes. The dealer wanted $350. With this video, I did it for $53 with shipping. Thanks!
Oh, I am so glad that it helped you! Have a great weekend
I only have one bad horn, and it’s the one that’s most accessible. Can you unplug the wire from the other one and just swap out the one horn? Otherwise we’ll either have to figure out how to get them both out without taking the grille off (which means taking the bumper off apparently) 😢
@@xraysam16 it has been a little while since I did this repair, but I believe that both horns are connected to the same wiring harness, so they will both need to be replaced. However, you should be able to replace them both without removing the grill and the front bumper. You just have to hold your mouth just right lol, but it can be done.
This guy is the hero we deserve, great video, instructions are perfect & easy to follow. My dealer wanted $280, just to “diagnose” the problem. I followed his instructions to a T, ordered the upgraded, Police Interceptor horn, (also goes on the F-150). Took me a total of about 30 minutes, including this video watching. Now my wife can get back to honking at all the bad drivers on the road
So glad that it helped you and thank you so much for the kind words! Tell your wife to be careful. There’s a bunch of crazy folks out there!
I just did my 2017 Explorer XLT and I got to thank you, super easy took me 30 minutes, remove the bolts and two clips from the top cover and remove the cover, I recommend you guys to disconnect the battery first, remove the screws on the top of the bad horns and disengage the conector using a flat screwdriver, pull out both horns from my left side arm side pulling the grill a little and worked them out, trust me just play with them but they will come out, install the new horns, plug the conector and test them, and that’s all very easy, good luck!
Perfect! so glad this helped you...
Excellent video, have my car open right now and was trying to figure out how to get the grill off. You’ve saved me an exceptional amount of time this morning
Glad it helped
Your smart thinking saved me a lot of time.
Thank you for making this video my dealer quoted 550$ labor plus 60$ plus ca tax 10% sooo I said are you crazy 😮 went to another Ford dealer bought the horn for 50$ plus tax and took your advise and it took me less than 10 min. I only used the horn and harness I bought as I simply removed to two horns and replaced them using same bracket and nuts. I can not believe dealer wanted that much it’s theft and I’m putting your link and my story everywhere to let those who are getting ripped off by Ford dealers know this is such a simple alternative. Thank you !!!!!
You're quite welcome....
This video was what I needed. Local dealer wanted $620 cdn to replace the horn. I said no thanks and did it myself. Parts were $67 cdn and the whole thing took 30 min or so. Thanks for the video - it saved me ~550 cdn. Much appreciated.
It was my pleasure. We gotta stick together and save each other time and money. God bless...
Try this link for the part itself.... ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-horn-gb5z13832b?c=Zz1lbGVjdHJpY2FsJnM9aG9ybiZsPTQmbj1Bc3NlbWJsaWVzIFBhZ2UmYT1mb3JkJm89ZXhwbG9yZXImeT0yMDE2JnQ9bGltaXRlZCZlPTMtNWwtdjYtZ2Fz
You sir are my hero! thank you, you saved me 400 bucks. This work beautifully : )
Absolutely amazing time saving tip! Thanks!
Happy to help!
Thank you for making this video very helpful
You are very welcome
Great video. Saved me $300!
my pleasure. glad it helped.....
Great video. I have same scenario. I'll check the horns themselves
Thank you for this video, but I didnt see until after I already removed my front wheel and the plastic covering to get to the non-existent horn that another video falsely stated that a 2019 explorer had in that location.
A 5 minute job turned into a more expensive job and a hour+ of my time.
So sorry you didn't see my video before you went to all that trouble. Have a great day and thanks for viewing.....
@@davidpeter0216 No need to be sorry, you should change the title of your video to include more Explorer years, its not just the 2018 model that has the horn in that location. I am not sure but I believe it changed in the 2015 model.
Its the other video that im not happy with, as they have comments that are fairly old that say this is not correct and they have not changed their title of their video.
That's a great idea. I just changed the title of my video so maybe I can help more people...
You are doing God’s work 🎉❤
This will be a life saver. Shop wanted to charge $350 for this after they literally just did over $3k in repairs for the water pump, timing chain, etc. I’ll definitely be ordering this part and doing it myself. From what the shop told me, to replace the whole mounting bracket, the whole front bumper and everything have to come off.
So glad it will help. Really isn't too complicated if you take my "short cut"...Merry Christmas
@@davidpeter0216 could you share where you got your replacement horns? Having trouble finding the ones you talked about.
@@DanielWilliams-qr7zn I actually ended up getting mine online directly from a dealer, but the easiest thing is to give you the part number GB5Z13832B. That is the exact part number from my invoice. You should have no problem finding what you need with this information. Thanks and hope all works out for your DIY project.... you can try this link? ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-horn-gb5z13832b?c=Zz1lbGVjdHJpY2FsJnM9aG9ybiZsPTQmbj1Bc3NlbWJsaWVzIFBhZ2UmYT1mb3JkJm89ZXhwbG9yZXImeT0yMDE2JnQ9bGltaXRlZCZlPTMtNWwtdjYtZ2Fz
Cheers
Can you make a video how to open the plastic cover and complete installation of the horn please
I didn’t have to open the plastic cover. I only removed the bolts on top of each individual horn assembly and disconnect and reconnect the wiring harness.
Thank you so much!!!
You are so welcome
What's the part number for it? And you couldn't blow the horn for a little demonstration? Lol

@@davidpeter0216 ok there it is. Thanks I'll check it out. Did you ever post a video how it sounds? Our 19 only has 1 horn, and it sounds like a little kia or something lol wanting to put the dual horn like this on it. Hoping it's straight forward not much electrical stuff to do
@@davidpeter0216 thank you so much
You didn’t honk the horn he w do u know if it works lol 😂
I thought about it, but because I installed the Interceptor version, it would have been EXTREMELY loud on the video....thanks for watching....
This is the video you want to watch for replacing your horn in a 2016-2019 explorer.

Thank you so much for the kind words.
@@davidpeter0216I just replaced my single horn to dual OEM horns that went out in my 19 explorer limited for no reason. I found the easiest way to replace it was disconnecting the harness to the horn undoing the single bolt and dropping in the new horns and mounting them on the old bracket then connecting them to the harness took roughly 15 minutes to replace
Taik too much go straight and explain
I'm so sorry my video did not help you and that I talked too much. I tried to be as thorough as possible and not leave out any important details.... Were you able to get your horn replaced by using the information that I provided? Thank you
