The encampments are actually in designated protest spaces in the main quad. They are not in anyone's way. If anyone is in the way, it's the much more aggressive and openly hostile counter-protestors - some of who are simply right wing agitators.

I fully support the First Amendment, the right to voice one's views to draw the attention of the public and the government. However, it seems that no one has articulated any sensible demands or viable solutions after gaining our attention.
The irony is not lost on me that protests, which are supposed to be peaceful, have unnecessarily escalated into hostility and violence. Isn't it ironic that antiwar protesters are behaving in this manner?
I was under the impression that the objective was to aid the Palestinians who are in dire need of food. Instead of wasting energy on unproductive arguments and poor behavior, why not channel that effort into fundraising and working towards actually providing food to the people you claim to support?

As for why no fundraisers for food, why would it matter if Israel blocks all of it anyway. There is a huge number of aid trucks in queue waiting to get into Gaza but all Israel does is do everything in its power to slow down the distribution of aid. Any aid that does get in usually gets civilians killed since the IDF just fires away into the crowds.
The violence problem starts with the cops. At my university, we have started our days out peacefully, usually with speeches from scholars, faculty, or activists. The violence starts when cops come rushing in with full riot gear. We have had about 5 sit-ins this last week and the only 2 that got violent became violent when the cops barged in.

Why create a stir over a school you chose? Didn't you research their practices before enrolling? Ultimately, you have the freedom to choose another institution.

@@CRMcGee2 They won't act immediately we are aware but they do not even make an effort to hear us out. Rather every time the administration calls cops on us escalating the situation. We don't want violence. We want to be heard out. We have been silenced for the last six months and we have had enough of our institutions treating us as lesser. I and many others are tired of the treatment that Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, and anyone pro-Palestinian receives on our campuses. Jewish students are often offered police escorts, and their organizations have police protection. Which I agree is a good thing, but none of that is available for us. We have had multiple instances of being attacked, doxed, and stalked on our campus grounds but our university never hears us out. Any faculty who tries to offer us mental counseling resources or show us some level of empathy is either suspended or fired. We are fed up with this difference in treatment.
I already changed institutions. My current university is my second one being a full-time student and my third college overall. It does indeed have more moderate views than my last but no school is perfect.
Not to be offensive or anything, but do you truly believe that port is to serve aid to Gaza? As someone who knows the US's tactics in other oil and gas-rich countries, it seems like more of an effort to take hold of Gaza's gas reserves by using aid as a cover story. Obviously, this point is one that is up for debate.
We do fundraise. In fact, we have managed several fundraisers selling bracelets, pendants, and trinkets and managed to accumulate approximately $30,000. But guess what it's all a waste.
