John, let me give you a couple of tips on your filleting and cooking your fish. Keep doing it the same way you just did!!!!! Perfect!!! I bet Sauger taste just like Walleye. And you can't get any better than that. Thanks for the video. Enjoy All of them.

Those look like really big sardines. I love fish. Especially Cappie. Thanks for showing us how to fillet a fish. My family never fillet anything. Just cut the head off, scaled it (or skinned it, if catfish) and fried it. Which means we had to pick through the bones ourselves. lol

I am a newer Sub after finding your channel a little while back... you do good work and I love your videos. I even enjoy your comment section and find it funny people hate about harvesting game. You can tell they have such a limited exposer to life..."don't make it suffer!!" If people only knew how those chicken nuggets they enjoy come to be....

Been watching you for about a year now. Was unable to comment before had to create a new account. But love watching you, even just hearing you chat is a pleasure. Coffee chat is my favorite. Im in Northern Vermont about 1/4 mile from thr Canadian border and were right in the middle of maple syrup right now and expecting a snow storm tonight.

I am in NH and that snowstorm was a doozy. After a very mild Feb. my yard was almost clear of snow and i could open my barn door - now it is mid winter again after 18in of wind driven snow. My dog is unhappy because he loves playing Frisbee, but the snow makes it really tough. Oh well - winter sports...

Sauger, never heard of this fish before, then again I was raised out West, in Utah, and lookin' at the ladies go for the fish carcasses! Nothing goes to waste on the homestead, amen to that, and kudos to ya John on using lard, truth has it, lard, butter, bacon grease is way more healthier for us than those new-fangled veggie oils and shortenings, just a bad rap given the former back in the 60s by who, Anderson Clayton and others who stood to gain $ on selling their products.

I see, the fresh water version of sharks, in years past, fishmongers here would bring in sharks but frankly i'm sticking to tilapia and catfish, I realize that most fish are agressive but to eat an outright predator.....

every state has a webpage for the local (state) DNR or EPA . They will have a section that you can search for called "Safe to Eat" it will list the waterways and lakes streams and list any hazards that might be there. Here they list Mercury and limit the fish to one meal a week or some such in some rivers and lakes and in others it has no restrictions at all

You can fillet a fish Sir. I have cleaned whitebass when i was a kid. For all the Illinois people who came up to my Uncles Resort. I filleted 1000's and i mean 1000's of fish. We sure made money as kids. Whitebass have no limit & i think you guys call them hybrids ?? and are much larger. Are spawn easy and grow fast. They are Schooling fish. Called a fish of ten casts. If you do not get one in ten casts" Move...........

It's my understanding the older and large fish that are to tough to eat,are the ones that have absorbed the river waste and possibly have a greater chance of contamination. The younger fish up to around five pounds not so much. Now if it has more than two eyes, ears, or noses...well your on your own. I'll put my flame suit on now. :)
