great video! I just had the radiator and the radiator fans both replaced on my 2017 outback 3.6r. The mechanic said that somehow the motors for the fans had fallen out of the fan blades - do you know how this might happen? That caused my car to overheat. Also, after getting it fixed, only the passenger side fan runs when I have the AC on full blast and am idling. Is this normal? Does the driver's side fan turn on at a specific temperature or something? Thanks
I have the exact vehicle with that same code. Fans work. Heats up only while sitting running at idle then temp. goes back to normal as soon as I start driving. Always the same symptom. Codes cleared no cel. Any ideas? I'm thinking temp. switch??

hi Sir, Just a quick question if you got the time, Why is it after changing coolant on a BRZ, the bottom rad hose will not get hot (it's pressurized though) ? Both fans work w A/C but the rad fan will not turn on past the halfway point. Bled the system several times already. Thanks for posting, looks like you are the one to ask.

I have an issue with my sti that i cant seem to sort out its over heating after driving the car for about 32 miles. What ive done is replace thermostat with Subaru oem, and radiator caps. When i run the car with no thermostat the car does not over heat but when i out the thermostat back on it over heats.
Hello nice video 👍🏻 i have a 2005 subaru impreza the fan only work on high speed low speed fan not working.. the high speed work when the temperature goes high any idea about the problem?
I have the same problem with a subaru forester 2010 SOHC. The fan doesnt turn on with the switch only if I turn on the AC. I verify the Main Fan Relay and its Ok. But Still doesnt test the output of the ECU and Coolant temperature sensor.
I'm having the same exact problem. Both fans will only turn on when the a/c is on. Otherwise, they will not turn on and the outback will overheat. Did you find a fix for this?
My 01 6cylinder outback same as yours in vid I’m guessing. Was overheating while it was running in park but the fan worked? Then it throwed the same code so wonder if that’s what I need new Ecm?
So when you jumped the circuit in the relay prongs.. If it didn't turn the fan on, what would be your next step? My 02 H4 2.5 is havong similar problems. Fan motors are good. No power to harness plugs for fans.
Mr Subaru. I need your help. I have a 2012 Forester and I was wondering if it's subfan should always stay running when I have the AC on. Because right now the AC is blowing hot air when parked and idling in particularly hot weather, and replacing the AC system hasn't fixed it.
Hey! Long time subscriber and I got a quick question for something that may interest you. If I were to run only one fan; which one flows better and which fan plug would you use for correct ECM control? I built a custom radiator setup that uses only one OEM fan (RH fan). With extra efficiencies engineered into this system, I am hoping to make up the loss of one fan. It's already all done going on the dyno next week.
This is unrelated to fan diagnostics, and I'm hoping you could make a video about it in the future. Is there a common Subaru diagnostic procedure for P0440? It used to be accompanied with P1445 & P0420, but now it's just P0440. Car is stock NA 2000 Impreza RS at 110k miles.

Great video! It has helped quite a bit with my parents 2002 outback h6. I have a question for you. Checked both fuses and have power there. I checked resistance on all relays they are good. Jumped the fans and they both kick on. Connected the green plugs everything kicks on but the main fan. I checked the pin at the ECM for 12v and I have no power to it. Is there a plug that I can check to see why I do not have power to the ECM?
Thanks for the great. My 2011 outback cooling temp sensor goes up really high but the none of the cooling fans kick in. I monitor the engine coolant temp by an OBD reader. The cooling fans both kick in only when AC or defrosting is on. Do you think I have a bad radiator temp sensor? Cause the coolant temp sensor does seem to be working fine. Thank you very much.

+BAKWOODS KID as far as I know, all Subarus have the green test mode connectors. They're going to be under the dash. Usually they'll be taped to the harness, up and out of the way.

I noticed after my head gasket job a few months back there is always excess coolant in the overflow when the engine is hot. Is that normal? When the engine sits overnight it usually goes back down.
Was the cooling system over filled to begin with? Coolant expands when hot, it moves from the radiator into the reservoir. When the coolant cools, it contracts. The coolant in the reservoir flows back into the radiator. This movement in and out is normal, within the limits of fill on the reservoir. If excessive amounts of coolant are being pushed into the reservoir, you may have a bad radiator cap.
I hope you can answer one question. I was reading the FSM and it said 203 F, fans turn on 70% and 213 F, fans are 100%. How can you confirm that? It's the 09 Legacy 3.0 FSM. Not sure if that matters. Test fuse works, both fans run with AC. Both fans turn on at 203 and off mid 190s. I don't want to blame the new OEM radiator. The ecm would change speed if true. Sorry to ask you but I don't think anyone else could answer. Nevermind, the packing by the radiator cap is damp. I'll pressure test it.
