  • In this video I'm demoing a JP-2C with a Flux Five pedal.
I'm using the Flux Five through the Clean Channel of the JP-2C and comparing it to the Channel 2 and 3 on the amp. Firstly I use the amp and pedal flat (No EQ) and then with the EQ engaged. I have the two EQ's set slightly different EQ1 is a more mid scooped sound and EQ2 is a more lead boost sound. I try to match the EQ on the pedal to the amp to try to get similar tones. I also try the pedal with the EQ on the amp and the EQ on the pedal turned off just to compare how that makes the pedal sound to the amp. Hope that all makes sense!
    Gear Used:
Ernie Ball Music Man Monarchy Majesty
    Mesa Boogie JP-2C Amp Head
Mesa Boogie Flux Five Overdrive/Distortion Pedal
    Steinberg UR44 Audio Interface

As someone with a very Fender clean type amp rig, I've been on the hunt for a pedal that can get me fairly close to Petrucci's sound with the ease of a single foot stomp. This is SO helpful, thank you!

That pedal sounds surprisingly good. I bet it would sound even better as a preamp going into the effects return.

Amazing how close that pedal comes to the real thing! Definitely going to have to get the pedal!!!

Pedal going through the jp2c preamp obviously sounds similar. Put that pedal through a fender twin preamp and let me know if is sounds like what you heard from this guy lol

Does it have to much gain engaged with channel 2 or 3

Can you use the EQ only without the OD by just turning the knobs all back? Like if you just wanted a premix EQ setting into other pedals?

I'm not sure, I never tried that and I no longer own the pedal.

You kinda can. If You leave it with 1% gain - it’s going to sound clean, but You have to crank up the volume, which will result in a messy compression. probably something like if guitar is on 1 and amp on 11. With gain at 7-8 o’clock You will get some warm grit but EQ will do most of the colouring, which would be useful to use AFTER the dist or other effects. The pedal itself has the opposite option - to use drive without the eq.

in the store I listened to the usual Flux Drive and Flux Five: I made a choice in favor of Flux Drive! it is more biting, crisp, less dirt in the gain. the task was to use as a boosted amp. Flux Five, on the other hand, introduced muddiness to pick strokes and grace notes, as well as a lot, a lot of dirt.
Flux Five's EQ distorts the natural tone too much, making it acidic. So I bought a separate EQ FIVE BAND Mesa pedal and used it to tone it before Flux Drive = this is a great sound !!!

To be honest, that's what I would do. My one gripe with the pedal is that the 5 band eq isn't footswitchable. It would have brought a whole new level to the pedal.

@@SteveKay77 you mean the equalizer on flux five does not turn on with your foot?
I wrote that on flux five there is a poisonous, acidic equalizer and it wildly spoils the sound! and for that reason I took a separate mesa equalizer and it sounds fantastic!

@@labyrinthzero3427 nope, its only switchable by a mini toggle. The footswitches are on/off and channel 1 & 2.
